If you’re from town you know about Doug’s it’s been a staple forever. The Hayward omelette is my go to. How can you go wrong with linguica?! All the food is delicious, service is prompt, polite and you never have an empty glass. Get here early on the weekends. Or you’ll wait forever!

Excellent place fast and amazing. I’m not a breakfast person but I will defiantly leave my house in the morning for this spot. Also not expensive.

I love breakfast at Doug’s. Great service and food is delish. They’re so attentive and give really big portions. They’re on the pricey side but well worth it. The omelette was fantastic!

I know a lot of people who tell me Doug’s place is a fantastic place for breakfast. I think it’s just okay. I had a basic breakfast of bacon, eggs, and pancakes and everything was just okay. Average. Service was great, the waitress was super nice. Overall this place is just… eh, I guess.

My sister and I dined here for breakfast this morning due to my choice &birthday meal. We have also been trying to find a new breakfast spot since Digger’s closed in Hayward. My sister rates this place a 3, I say it’s more of a 3.5. The place is located in the Lucky’s plaza in an outdated strip mall on the boulevard. I heard this place gets packed on the weekends so I guess we came on time because we were seated right away. Or more of a guy pointed to the back table, he handed me the menus and we seated ourselves, LOL. We looked through the menu &my sister ended up getting two pancakes, eggs &bacon. I got the Hayward omelette loaded with Linguiça, shrooms, tomatoes, onions &cheese, with country potatoes &WHEAT toast. Our plates came in a timely matter &it all looked good w/promising portions. The bacon on my sisters plate was a lot for a side, but kind of dried out. Eggs were the standard &the pancakes reminded me of McDonald’s. My omelette had a bit of water on the plate due to the shrooms which is a good sign to me because that’s means they’re fresh. The tomatoes were probably canned bc it was soggy. Linguiça was good, meat to veggie ratio in the omelette was good. Country potatoes ehh, they looked like potato chips but I guess I should’ve gotten hash browns instead? I put pepper &used hot sauce/ketchup as I always do w/breakfast. Taste was overall good. Nothing was cold. The total came out to $ 26.77. Kind of pricey for breakfast if you ask me. It was good food, nothing spectacular. Wouldn’t mind coming back but wouldn’t mind finding another breakfast venue as well. Our search is still on… Note: This place is I guess kind of targeted to senior citizens, therefore you might kind of find the food bland. If this is a problem for you, don’t even bother coming here. If you don’t mind, try it.

This place is awesome. The breakfasts are great, the staff is fast and attentive. Dont get flustered by the large crowds of people waiting to be seated, the staff move quick and the waits are short. My personal favorites are Country Fried Steak, Corned Beef Hash, Steak and Eggs, Pork Chop and eggs. — P

This is a popular diner in a shopping center. The staff is attentive which makes them quick(YAY). You will not be waiting for your water glass or your coffee to be refilled here. The food was yummy. I had a breakfast option. So I cannot comment on anything other the yummy breakfast. I will be back for more yummy large portions.

This place is super busy on the weekends. There’s a wait and the restaurant is packed with barely any space for the servers to walk by. However, I don’t think the food was worth the wait. I had a waffle with sausage and eggs, but it was nothing spectacular. The staff was very friendly, but I was not impressed with the quality of the food.

Horrible customer service. Always busy! We got seated and had to wait 30 mins to get service and another 30 to get the food. Eveyone else got their food before us and we were seated before them.. Not happy and will not return.

Came in Sunday at 9:40 there was no wait and we were seated rather quickly compared to the las time we came. We are offered drinks within a reasonable time and they took our order as well. They sat a couple behind us once they took our order. …and what do you know they got there food before us. So i thought maybe because my omelette takes a little longer than an over easy egg. Its now been 15 minutes later and we still have not been served. Im ready to walk out but my husband wants to stay and wait to see how long it takes. Five minutes later we got our food. If we decide to go back we will definitely be asking for a different server. While we have gone when the waits were longer our server has always been apologetic and made sure food came out in the order they were placed.

I love this place, it’s the best greasy spoon in the area. I always get an omelette there, and I absolutely love their bacon.

Hubby wanted to try a new diner since this was about half a mile from our house so we decided why not. The food was good and nicely portioned. The décor could use some updating but that didn’t really bother me much. The staff was very accommodating to our needs and I felt like this place was pretty diverse to other diners I’ve been to(which I did not feel like the deserved a review) We will definitely be coming back.

This place looked kinda cool and funky and I was excited to try it. Unfortunately it was disappointing. Service was a bit shaky… took forever for someone to come over and my drink was forgotten after the food came. But that really is not that big of a deal compared to the strange experience of ordering a crab sandwich only to find out that it was imitation crab. I noticed it immediately and wanted to return it but the waitress was nowhere to be found. I finished half the sandwich because I was hungry and finally the waitress was nearby so I flagged her down. I asked her if it was imitation and she admitted that it was supposedly hard real crab and half imitation. Well ok… I couldn’t find the real crab at all. ITISTHELAW that food with imitation fish be listed as such and the menu made no mention of it. After haggling about it, the waitress admitted she has had other complaints and has mentioned it to the manager but it falls on deaf ears. Fortunately she didn’t charge us for the sandwich. What a disappointment!

The #1 spot for breakfast/brunch in Castro valley and honestly, I’m not entirely sure why. I guess it could be because there’s a really local, homey atmosphere in the restaurant but that’s as far as a good place to eat at goes. Their food really is nothing special. Honestly, it’s not that great. I personally am an omelette type of person. I ordered an omelette with crab, cheese and onions. And it was 75% onions. I really enjoy onions and even this was too much for me. There was hardly any crab meat in this. It was like they were trying to save on using crab meat but filling it with onions. And even so, the crab meats artificial. It’s not even real. It’s those red and white sticks of fake crab meat. The omelette also was a really small size. And it was around $ 11. I could get larger, better tasting omelette than this at I-hop. Honestly, I prefer i-hop. My mom also orders a French toast combo and even that wasn’t good. She herself said I-hops better. The food is really subpar here. Overall, they’ll get 2 stars for the nice atmosphere but that’s about it b/c their food is very subpar here. Spend the same money and get fuller with better tasting food at I-hop. I’ve been here about 3 times hoping it’ll eventually get better. It hasn’t. I prolly won’t ever be coming back.

So, so very disappointed. This place didn’t jump out to us as a place we needed to go, but last night a friend recommended it out of the blue. The Unilocal reviews were varied and with the added recommendation we decided to give it a try. The coffee was a bit bitter. Funny thing about coffee, at least for me, is after the first sip or two my palate adjusts and the coffee becomes drinkable. Perhaps it’s my body’s way of making sure I get my morning caffeine fix. I ordered the Doug’s Omelette with fried potatoes rather than hash browns with onions on top. The omelette was filled with tomato, avacado, bacon and cheese. Finished off the plate with sourdough bread and a side of bacon. The speed with which the meal was delivered made my head spin! I don’t think I could have cracked an egg that quickly, much less prepare my breakfast and my partner’s chicken fried steak and eggs. I read about the tomatoes on Unilocal, but I didn’t head the warning. Seeing(and tasting), however, is believing. Soggy, formless and more than likely from a can. The omelette was stuffed to the gills with avocado. One would think this is a good thing if one likes avocado. I am one that does, but this felt(I’m talking mouth-feel) and looked like green mush. I used a bit of salt in hopes of salvaging(or creating) some flavor to no avail. I did not finish my omelette and if you knew me you would know that is a huge deal. On to the potatoes… The potatoes were in no way moist. They were fried, right? They were dry. I expected dust to fly out when I cut one in half. Okay, that is an exaggeration and a metaphor. There was no dust in the potatoes. The onions on top did not save them. They truly appeared to have been made yesterday. I can’t see how they saw the inside of a hot, oiled up pan this morning. I did not finish the potatoes. On to the bacon… I love bacon! The side of bacon was huge! There must have been seven pieces. It was unfortunate the bacon also appeared to have been fried up yesterday. The slices were as dry as the potatoes. There was no juicy fat flavor to be found. Between the two of us we did not finish the bacon. The sourdough toast was hard. I didn’t finish my toast. I did taste a bite of the chicken fried steak. It was flavorful with a nice hint of rosemary. Since this was our first(and last) time here we didn’t realize we were to pay on the way out. When the server brought the check, which contrary to other reviews here was not cheap($ 32 for breakfast for two), I pulled out my wallet and, out of habit, placed my credit card on the bill. The waiter walked by twice(close by) and never once explained we needed to pay on the way out. He simply kept walking. Uh. thanks for nothing. I suppose we could go back and I could finished what I left behind. It would be as fresh as it was this morning when it was served. But there are way too many great options for breakfast to ever consider coming back here.
