This is an absolutely wonderful B&B! My family and I stayed here for two nights and we had a great time. Nancy and Ralph were excellent hosts, and the house and rooms were immaculate and comfortable. The breakfasts each morning were delicious and it was very relaxing to sit and chat with Nancy and the other guests. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who finds themselves in Castleton!

We just returned home from a week long visit to Castleton, visiting our daughter who is a junior at Castleton State College. Although we have stayed at Applewood Manor many times in the past 3 years, this was the first time that we were able to stay for an entire week. What a pleasure! Ralph & Nancy are always the perfect hosts and it feels like coming home each time we walk through the door. The rooms, bathrooms and beds are beyond comfortable and the cleanest we have ever found. Ralph’s breakfasts and Nancy’s graciousness are beyond compare. Full, gourmet and satisfying breakfasts are served with elegance and gracious attentiveness. Eggs Benedict, Omelettes, Waffles, Blueberry Pancakes, Fresh Fruit, Yogurt, Bacon & Sausage are some examples of the scrumptious delights that are prepared for you. Attention to detail and accommodation for my gluten/dairy free diet were granted with pleasure! The upkeep and care of the home and grounds insure that they are always pristine. We’ve met many repeat guests over the years and they are just as pleased as we are with every detail and visit. It’s a shame that our daughter will only be attending Castleton for one more year, as we love to come and sit a spell with Sampson(the loving golden retreiver) and his master and mistress of the manor. We will definitely find an excuse to come back, even after her graduation! Bravo!

My husband and I stayed here for three nights and it was a perfect spot for day trips to Rutland and Orwell but also for just relaxing and reading in the downstairs livingroom with an occasional stroll into town. Nancy and Ralph were the utmost in gracious hospitality, preparing delicious breakfasts and just being low-key, friendly hosts. Highly recommended! Added bonus: Amtrak has a station in the town with trains into NYC.

My girlfriend and I only stayed one night in an attempt not to get snowed in by an impending storm, but even though our stay was short Ralph and Nancy made us feel at home. The accommodations were great and the breakfast in the morning was beyond delicious! I would recommend staying here for a nice relaxing weekend getaway since there are plenty of things to do that are within approximately 40 minutes of Applewood Manor no matter what direction you may want to travel.

We LOVE the Applewood Manor Bed and Breakfast. We have come every year for the last four. We spend a long weekend in the late fall. The inn itself is an old house that has been recently renovated/updated. It is both charming and modern at the same time The rooms are nice, well-furnished, and comfortable. The grounds are well-kept and woodsy, with ample walking in the areas. But the real stars are Nancy and Ralph, the innkeepers. Ralph cooks and keeps the buildings/grounds and Nancy hosts They are both very attentive to guests’ needs while not being overbearing. The food is very tasty and the variety is great. Ralph and Nancy are doing it right! You owe it to yourself to stay at the AM.

I came to Castleton for a week to write, and stayed at the Applewood Manor B&B the entire time. I was able to relax completely here and focus on my work, and produce double the amount of pages that I had set as my goal. Each morning I would get a wonderfully custom-made breakfast of blueberry pancakes, french toast, omelet or eggs Benedict, lots of deliciously strong coffee, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the countryside like an occasional hummingbird that would drop by the feeder next to the table. Mostly during the day I would walk around Castleton, and the B&B is only about a block off the main street. It’s a pity there’s no sidewalks, but that’s not the B&B’s fault. It’s also right next to the famous Castleton River, which you can walk over every time you walk into town, and they also have a little path that runs alongside it with a picnic table near the end. Bring bug spray though, the horse flies can get nasty! I would also frequently go out driving to the nearby cities like Rutland for restaurants, or down to Poultney for more historical buildings, but Castleton seemed really central to everything I was interested in seeing. As someone who loves historical architecture, I was pleased to find their house was a 200 year old federal style built by one of Castleton’s first sons, Noah Hoyt, and they had a lot of historical pictures and descriptions of the house and family in the main rooms. I had stayed in Noah’s room, and it was very comfortable, though the floors were a bit creaky. I had stayed during a particularly bad heat wave, and because the house was built so long ago there’s no proper HVAC/AC system set up for the house. However there was an AC unit in each room, so as long as I stayed in my room writing for these particularly hot days, I was able to keep cool and comfortable. They also had a swimming pool, but alas, I had forgotten my swimsuit. One evening though, I did stick my feet in the pool while reading, and it was a very nice spot to sit and relax.
