Pizza place a bit off the highway sounds perfect during a road trip. The place certainly isn’t impressive by looks inside or out. The pizza warmer for slices doesn’t look like it’s been cleaned in years. Probably 6 staff(younger kids working, older folks leering about) in the back but no one was working when we arrived at 7:30pm and there was no smell of food, so I assume we were the first customers of the night. No ice available for drinks. No beer sold and you can’t BYOB. Rotating«Jesus loves you» sign. The only thing ok was the food, which was pretty good but probably not good enough to bring me back next time I’m driving through the corridor.

The pizza was okay. I had heard good things from coworkers and wanted to try it. The pizza was a bit bland and burned. It was average at best, nothing to get excited about. I’m surprised that some consider it the best pizza around. There are better options for pizza in the capital district. I had high expectations and was disappointed.

I want to take a moment to say how delicious Goomba’s pizza is, as well as their garlic knots, dinners, and subs! I’m full-blooded Italian, so I KNOW authentic Italian food when I eat it, and this place, folks, is the real deal!

We are from NJ up for a wedding. We ate the garlic knots and 3 personal pies. This unassuming little place had tons of character and the food was terrific. The cherry on top, the service was also great! Fast, friendly, personable and even offered to pay for the grooms lunch! Well done guys.

First time I went to this place was today. At 2PM, I ordered and paid cash for 40 wings and extra veggies to be picked up at 4:45. Watched the guy apparently key the order into the computer. Put a tip in the jar and left. Got there at 4:45. .. No wings. Different people behind the counter. Never heard of me or the order. Not in the computer. WT-? They cooked them right away without apologizing, seemingly just to make me go away. I mentioned Unilocal on the way out and one of the owners came outside and said they were sorry and have a nice day. I was late to my get-together.

I stopped in the other night and had one of the best and I mean best chicken parm dinners I ever had. The sauce was superd and out of this world. The owner and staff are so nice and friendly, and go out of the way to make sure you are happy.

On a long drive we decided to stop overnight in Albany. Feeling lazy we called several chains but no one would deliver, so we decided to try Goombas. We were NOT disappointed. The pizza was amazing, everything. Crust was perfect, and the sauce! On our next trip down the 95 we will plan a stop in Albany just to have more!

I live fairly close to here and I’m glad I do! Their pizza is superb, especially the white broccoli. Although if you’re getting a normal pizza ask them to go light on the sauce, many times they add way too much in my opinion. Now, the mozzarella sticks. Oh my god. I officially want to eat those delicious sticks of fried goodness with cranberry sauce as my last meal. I know I’m raving about mozzarella sticks… but they’re so damn tasty, try ‘em for your self! Overall, I HIGHLY recommend going here especially if you want something delicious without spending a lot of money. 4⁄5

Yummy! We loved the wood fired wings and the garlic knots! They were very accommodating, friendly and helpful. Don’t be put off by the outside appearance. It’s a must try!

I recently tried their wood-fired wings and decided they are now my favorite, good smoky flavor under the sauce and nicely crispy too. Local delivery is fast and they take a credit card over the phone and have you sign when the food comes, some places won’t do that. I continue to love the pizza, their sauce is great and ingredients are fresh. Oh, and they give a 10% Veterans discount. I think the owner is a Vietnam Vet.

I moved up to the area(East Greenbush, specifically) last summer from North Jersey — about 15 minutes outside of NYC — and have had immense difficulty finding good pizza since then. I tried all the places in the immediate area and was always disappointed with the quality, price, or both. I found myself almost beginning to accept that I won’t find a good slice of pizza upstate, much to my chagrin. One night, however, I found myself thinking how I’m a mere two hours from a place where good pizza is abundant. I thought, there *has* to be somewhere up here that knows how to make good pizza, just like the the classic pizza parlors in Jersey do. Alas, I found it! How I suffered through a half a year’s worth of terrible pizza, I’ll never know. Despite«my usual» place being within walking distance of where I live, I’m going to go here from now on – even if it is a little further away. I’m overjoyed that I no longer have to settle for mediocrity. Now, as for the food itself: it was a bit heavy on the sauce(made for a messy meal, natch), but I didn’t particularly mind. The slices tasted just perfect… you’d be doing yourself a disservice not to give it a try! Prices are extremely reasonable, and the atmosphere reminds me of the old-school pizza joints I used to go to in Jersey. This place, by virtue of their great prices and good food, has definitely won me over.

When I leave Vegas and visit my mom in Nassau(upstate NY) the amount of restaurants I’m accustomed to goes from about 1200 in a 10 mile radius to about 5. So where do I eat? Well, I just this past year stumbled upon Goomba’s via word of mouth. Outstanding pizza here and I know pizza very well(grandpa and both uncles operated multiple pizza shops around the capital district). Now to reflect on the pizza… every aspect of this slice of pizza is as close to perfection as I’ve ever had. The dough is light, airy, a little sweet, but not too sweet. Perfect. The sauce goes perfect with the dough because the slight zing of the sauce contrasts perfect with the subtle sweetness of the dough and the dough isn’t thick so you get a lot of that excellent sauce and cheese in your bite. The cheese melts perfectly because I think they use a mix of skim mozzarella and whole mozzarella blended together to get that perfect melt. If you opt to take out a full pie it’s just as good the next day. …and ignore the comment by the reviewer below who said to stay away from the ready made slices, 90% of the time, that’s what I order and every time they just pop it in the wood-fired oven and it comes out hot and fresh like it was just made… all pizza joints that offer slices handle it this way and it gives you a chance to sample a variety… and to not keep the customer waiting 15 minutes for a slice. How else is a restaurant supposed to offer slices? Hint: Grab a slice of buffalo chicken if you see it up there. Another outstanding piece of work. On top of the great pizza, the service is top notch. Not only are the employees friendly, but the owner always makes it a point to ask how my mom is doing whenever she’s at the counter and I come in for a couple slices to go. I’ll be back up in Goomba country this April and look forward to having some really good pizza again.

The place doesn’t look like much from the outside(or for that matter, from the inside), but the pizza is hands-down the best in a 20 mile radius, at least. Their pizza, made in a wood-fired oven, comes out near-perfect. The sauce is excellent and full of flavor, and distinctive. Their meat lover’s pizza is a must-try. So are their wood-fired chicken wings. I haven’t had anything like it anywhere else. It’s partially deep-ffried and then finished off in the oven, to give it a nice flavor and texture. Unlike the usual buffalo wings, it’s not drowned in sauce. Fantastic. My wife ordered a lasagna, and was skeptical – most pizzerias in these parts just don’t do a very good job of anything beyond pizza(and even that’s questionable). To my surprise, it was also very good! Served with generous amount of their great sauce. If I didn’t like their pizza so much, I might get adventurous and try the other dishes. All this and at very affordable prices. I’m hooked. Additional notes: Don’t bother with any of their pizzas by the slice – not very good after sitting there for god knows how long – this shouldn’t be your first impression Limited selection of soft drinks, no fountain soda There are about 6 comfortable tables inside for dining in, with table-side service

I was here a while back and the pizza slices I had were pretty good. However, the place was purchased in January and now under new management/ownership, mom and pop. I like the name Goomba’s since it reminds me of playing Super Mario Bros as a kid back in the day. It’s time for a Unilocal! The atmosphere inside is pretty comfortable with dim lighting and new furnishings(self serve seating) in the casual dining area. It’s order at the counter here. The walls have old B/W pictures including some Marilyn Monroe. There’s also a few Red Sox decorations near the counter, which is definitely a plus in my book, especially since this area is Yankees country. The owner David is a Red Sox fan. They offer traditional thin crust and specialty pizza from a real wood fired brick oven, no smoking mirrors here like at many other pizza places I’ve been to which falsely claim to have brick oven pizza. Pizza is also available by the slice(cheese and meat toppings). Besides pizza, other offerings include subs, wraps, salads, soups, appetizers, and pasta dinners. 7-Up and RC Cola products available from the cooler. Specials are also offered here including pasta & meatballs or sausage on Wednesdays and jumbo fish fry on Fridays. Since I’ve been eating pizza for the past week straight, I decided on the Buffalo Chicken Wrap($ 5.95 plus tax), which included fries and a small salad of the day. This is a very good deal for the money since most other places I’ve been to offer similar wraps a la carte and the price is usually higher($ 7-$ 8). The food was ready in under 10 minutes. This Wrap was excellent, which had tender breaded chicken in a spicy buffalo sauce with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and a creamy bleu cheese dressing wrapped in a flour tortilla. The crispy battered fries were fried golden to perfection and had a slight sweet taste and a good texture. The small salad was a shell pasta salad with Italian dressing. Overall, the buffalo chicken wrap and battered fries were very enjoyable and priced right. I will definitely have to try the pizza again when I’m not«pizza’d out» since very few places in the area offered wood fired pizza. This is the real deal! FACEBOOK:
