Camp Arcadia, an all-girls overnight camp, is truly a wonderful place. I had the privilege of attending as both a camper in the 1990s(3 years) and a counselor in the 2000s(3 years). The people I met over those 6 summers continue to be some of my closest friends and confidants. The directors take a genuine interest in campers, their parents, and the staff members. From a camper perspective: camp is incredible: you meet campers and counselors who come from around the world(literally, one of my closest camp friends grew up and lives in Spain). You spend your days swimming on the lake, singing songs, playing tennis, and learning how to live in the woods. Nighttime activities include everything from camp-wide Harry Potter-themed Olympics to shaving parties(for the teenage girls) to simply hanging out with your(super cool) counselors. You can hike Mount Washington and canoe up and down the many lakes of Maine and New Hampshire. From a counselor perspective: I was admittedly exhausted for most of the time, but it was incredibly fun and shaped my life in ways I didn’t realize at the time. I now work in Corporate America, but the experiences I gained – building rapport with campers of varying ages, supervising staff, learning how to manage my time, and remembering to take time to rest – have helped me quite a bit in my «adult» life. Now in its 100th summer, Camp Arcadia is the place to be!
