These may be some of the better bagels in the area, but I can’t give this place more than 3 stars, as they do not have freezer bags for customers trying to buy extra bagels in bulk to freeze for later usage. That short cut just does not make good sense in the bagel business. In far away lands of great bagels, that would be as sinful as an ice cream shop without cones. If they start to offer freezer bags for larger orders, they will likely get more Unilocal stars and extra business from me. Otherwise, I may just visit from time to time.

I’ve eaten bagels at some of the finest carb-inducing institutions on the planet including Murray’s Bagels, Tompkins Square Bagels and Ess-A-Bagel in NYC so I can sympathize with Yankee whiners who go on and on about their damn bagels and Chinese food down here. I could hold up a conversation with these glass half-empty folks and talk about a good smear for hours. That was, until we were fortunate enough to stumble upon NY Bagels & Deli. Let’s be serious, Bruegger’s Bagels is a joke, and I lived the first 2 years of my life in Raleigh believing it was the only realistic option around the area. I have brought in my folks from Long Island and the in-laws from Boston who have both commented that the quality was as good as anything they would get up north. Chinese food still has some room to make up down here, but if you are a disenchanted Yankee looking for your bagel fix, you can’t do much better than NYBD.

Though I was a fan in the past my last experience here was not good. My sandwich was not fresh as I watched all the food that went on it be made while I was in the back of the long line that took quite a while to move. My roll also had so much flour on it that it made a mess when I went to eat it. There were only 2 people working and they were clearly understaffed. I may give them another shot when in the area but I won’t go out of my way to get to them.

We moved away from the area for two years to Denver, Colorado. Many a cold Colorado morning, my husband and I would say to each other, «Does NYBD deliver long distance?!» We really missed this place. So glad to be back in the Triangle! Okay, here is my honest review: If I could eat here every morning, I would. Seriously. Anytime we have family in from out of town we bring them here and they rave about it. Anytime my husband wants me to go for a run or do some other form of tortuous exercise, he lures me by saying, «I’ll get you NYBD afterwards». And it works. Self-proclaimed BESTCOFFEEINTHEWORLD at this location… I must say, its pretty good coffee. Organic Columbian dark and medium roasts, and always a few flavored coffees thrown in there. Hubby and I always get the whole wheat everything bagel with cream cheese. I’ve had an egg and cheese bagle sandwich a few times before and they were, you guessed it, divine! Really love this authentic gem of a place! Two signed James Gandolfini pics above the register — just sayin’.

It’s like our only real New York experience. Bagels are wonderful and served/bagged by staff who communicate with each other with attitude. They must be family. Don’t worry they save their«please and thank you’s» for us customers. Love the pumpernickel with cream cheese!

WOW!!! Great Bagels. I have been down here for 8 years and have been trying to find a good Bagel joint down here in the Triangle area. I had given up and resigned myself that I was stuck with Breuggers Bagels. No more. Now that I have found NYBD no more Breuggers for me. I am from Rochester NY. I used to go to a Bagel joint in Secacus NJ which were very much like NYBD. Great taste, chewy and delicious. Plus they have other delicious looking baked goods that I have not tried yet. Yes these bagels are more pricey, but they are FRESH and twice the size that you get at Brueggers. I live in the Brier Creek area which is about a 20 minute drive. But well worth the trip for these Bagels. If you haven’t been to NYBD yet get in your vehicle and go.

NYBD is my go to for the most authentic tasting bagels in the Triangle. From the moment I walked in I got a whiff of the familiar bagel smells that had surrounded me growing up in New Jersey and working at my beloved Bagel Bop. One taste of their bagels and I knew I had found a new favorite. They have a wide selection of bagels as well as pastries. I always get the everything bagel with cream cheese and it is just how I remember it from up North. Crispy exterior, soft inside and generously filled with cream cheese. Hubby gives their bagel with cream cheese, capers, red onions and lox two thumbs up as well! Their cannolis and donuts are also delicious, as was the cranberry muffin I tried recently. I have not tried any of their cookies yet but they also appear of high quality. Their hoagie breads are amazing(both seeded and unseeded) and the meats(all Boars Head) are also of the best quality. They are not cheap with the meat in the subs, so even if it is a little pricier than a generic sub place, it is so worth it. The owners and workers are awesome and always so friendly and welcoming. It is always a pleasure to get something to eat here. Certainly beats any breakfast fast food joint, imho.

Definitely my favorite bagel joint. You can’t find bagels better than this in the Triangle. The prices are a bit steep, so I don’t go there too often, but it is a nice treat every once in a while. My favorite bagel is pumpernickel, but there are 2 types: plain and covered in garlic. I didn’t know and got the one covered in garlic, couldn’t even taste the subtle pumpernickel flavor I enjoy so much. Will know better next time! I wish they had smoked salmon as one of the sandwich options, but bacon egg and cheese, as well as plain cream cheese are delicious. Boyfriend and I split an éclair, delicious as well!

We went there for the first time to check it out based on the glowing reviews on Unilocal. What a disappointment!!! Food was mediocre, service subpar and the food is very expensive for what you get. We won’t be returning.

Bagels here are addictive. Have been here several times and the food is always delicious. Problem is inconsistency. Each employee will make your order differently and have noticed that it is best when the owner makes it. Menu is a little hard to understand and if you have people in line behind you, you will have to chose quickly. Service is always friendly.

This is the best place to make you feel«at home» if you are from NY! The cheesecake is true NY stile, as are the bagels and cannoli. The black and white cookies are true to NYC but I wish they would add half moon cookies from upstate NY :) :) I always visit NYBD when I am homesick.

This was our first trip to NYBD. And I think will most likely be the last. We were gifted a $ 50 (don’t even bother– it’s a joke) gift card. The only place that looked remotely reasonable(as well as good Unilocal reviews) was NYBD. I trust Unilocal.A solid 4 stars? Sounds good. You can barely read the menu from the line. Unless you’re right smack in front of the registers, good luck making a decision quickly enough on your first try. And when you CAN see the menu– there are so many alterations and things blacked out you can barely understand what’s going on there anyway. My boyfriend orders a pastrami lunch sandwich with fries and slaw. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and an omelette. While it wasn’t complicated, it clearly should have been written down. We moved down and attempted to get out of the way of other patrons. Multiple times we were questioned about our order. Someone else attempted to cash us out while our food was being made and when we told him our order he sort of laughed and looked at us funny and said«we don’t have fries.» Confused we pointed at the menu where it clearly states«fries and slaw»(with no masking tape or cardboard over it) and were met with yeah there’s no more deep fryer. Well that would have been nice to know when we ordered. After an awkward minute silence after that he said i’ll just let her take care of you and moved on. During this conversation another woman(not the one who took our order) asked my boyfriend what kind of cheese he wanted, while he was trying to have a conversation with the other employee. Irritated she got no response(while he was speaking to her co-worker) she asked again louder and more irritated. ?? Do you not see us trying to talk to your co-worker about our order? After what seemed like an unusually long time she brought his sandwich and my bagel over. No omelette in sight. At this point we just want to leave. We got a half dozen bagels to take home in leu of my omelette to meet the $ 20 minimum for the ridiculous deal. Which brings me to the most annoying part of our visit. We showed the woman our voucher on the phone for the $ 10 off $ 20. She had no idea what to do with it and flagged another person down who was in the middle of another transaction. He rudely said«well did you push accept?» so we tried to find this accept button all the while our cashier is staring at us like we’re taking up too much of her time. We push the button and the screen disappears and the voucher goes away. We say this. Met with silence and blank stares. Confused we fumble with the horribly designed app trying to get it to show some sort of confirmation. She asks«well?» and we say it went through we pushed accept. The other guy comes over«did you push accept?» yes we did… «Well?» Well what? We pushed accept. Finally I took the phone and tried to find this voucher. It appeared under the«used» section and showed it to her. She hands off the phone to someone else also in the middle of a transaction. He stares at is and her and us and is like«What? $ 10 off» After what seemed like the biggest deal ever, we were able to pay and leave. We have never used this thing and are NOT«those» types of customers who try to find a deal before we go out to eat somewhere. It was a gift, we were trying to see what it was about. We are not«those» types of customers who need our butts kissed and be bowed down to. No. We are very EASY customers. We BOTH work in the customer service industry and KNOW what it’s like to deal with those customers, so for us to be irritated and never want to return– IS A BIGDEAL. And on top of it all the bagel was very hard and the sandwich was wrong.

I moved to Raleigh from NJ and had given up on finding a bagel worth eating. Some half-flat, rock hard ball of bread wasn’t my idea of a good treat, but then I found NYBD. Holy. Fluffiness. These bagels are perfect! I felt like I was back in NJ eating the bagels I grew up on. They’re crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and perfect all around. Their 6in pastrami sandwich was enough for a filling lunch for both me and my boyfriend. Their cannoli was fantastic and they have Taylor Ham! After finding NYBD, I see no reason to EVER go to another bagel place in the Triangle.

NY Bagels and Deli makes me feel at home! After moving to Raleigh from NY this May I missed so may things about NY, bagels being one of them. This bagel place could not be more authentic of NY if they tried. Everyone who works there is from NY and I immediately feel at home when I hear their accents and they say hello. Their bacon, egg and cheese on an everything bagel is delicious. I would HIGHLY recommend coming here!

Great, my 200th Review happens to be a 5 Star Rating! I finally gave this place a try yesterday on my way to work at about 11:00am before the crowd arrived, so I used my time to study the menu and to ask a lot of questions. The staff was so nice and helpful, and a little intimidating at first because these folks seem to be the Real Deal from rough and tumble New York City! But I found that the passion for their food shows in everything they do there, and I love that in a person. They make their own Bagels, Croissants and Italian bread daily, so everything is fresh and wonderful. The Pastries looked AMAZING and I must go back for them. After a lot of thought, I decided to try their homemade(of course) Tuna Salad which was made to perfection. It was moist and flavorful but not wet or over-mayo’d. It had just the right amount of onion in it too(and bits of celery? Not sure now, I devoured it.) PERFECT! I was worried because I had the last remaining Croissant in the bin, thinking it might be dried out but it too was amazing. The woman who put together my masterpiece was patient with me peeking into the ‘Makings Fridge(I’ll call it) and asking for extra lettuce, a little mayo, oh, and how bout throwing on one of those tomato slices? No problem! Thank You. As I mentioned the staff was great and nice to talk to. I’ve heard it gets really busy in there and that is no surprise, I can’t wait to go back!

NY Bagels & Deli is a fantastic way to start your morning! We stopped in for a couple of bagels, and after the gal working behind the counter told us that the coffee cake is the best we’d ever eat, we had to have it. We also ordered up a couple of javas. The staff there is incredibly helpful and friendly. We both opted for sausage & egg on the everything bagel. It was done quickly and we stopped to fill up our cups with coffee. We sat down and I immediately noticed that NYB&D seems like a regular spot for most there. People were enjoying breakfast and reading the paper or catching up with friends. Onto the food. The bagel sandwich was REALLY good. I enjoyed the consistency of the bagel and all of the flavors paired well together. The coffee cake… well, it was indeed one of the best. Moist in all the right places, crumbly where it should be. The coffee was good. I think next time, I would opt for a bagel with cream cheese, because I really want to know what the bagels are like solo. There were homemade donuts sitting on the counter and tons of bagels. There was also cannoli and other pastries, including the infamous black and white cookie. SO many things I wanted to try here, I will definitely be back!

Having only been to NYC a few times, I would never claim to be an expert, or even knowledgeable on NY delis. However, from what I can remember from my travels, this is pretty authentic to what you would get in NYC. I love spicy, savory breakfast food and am guilty of using Sriracha on my bagels(trust me on this one). As I looked around, I was disappointed to see that there was not a single bottle of Sriracha, but I saw a sign that they have ghost pepper cheese. Whoo hoo!!! I ordered an egg and ghost pepper cheese on an everything bagel. Surprising enough, the cheese was not overpoweringly spicy, but did provide a sufficient kick to get my taste buds watering. I also had a cup of coffee and found that very good. Between the coffee and the spice I was ready to start my day.
