I am always looking for vegetarian eggplant dishes, which are rarely an option at your basic Chinese quick-serve restaurant. Very happy to see Eggplant & Tofu in Garlic Sauce on the whiteboard menu as a special for $ 7.99. Nice amount of sauce. Kitchen smelled great while it was cooking. Worth eating here if running errands in the neighborhood. Wish they had an alternative to Styrofoam plate and plastic fork though. Low points for environmental waste.(I have not tried anything else on the menu.)

Even though we have enjoyed Hong Kong 1 take out a number of times before, tonight’s dinner was an exceptional disappointment. We ordered Kung Pao chicken, veggie moo shu, pork dumplings, and egg drop soup. The Kung Pao chicken was mostly peanuts and veggies and the small pieces of «chicken» in the dish were questionable at best. The moo shu was fine itself, but the order was not complete since the sauce and pancakes were never added to the bag. This makes the moo shu less appetizing. Although the egg drop soup and dumplings were good, they were overshadowed by the disappointment of the moo shu and Kung Pao. I think the disappointment was compounded by the previously great experiences. We had such high hopes and they were not met. Unfortunately, we will most likely not be ordering from Hong Kong 1 again.

«Hong Kong No. 1» is a hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant tucked into a back corner of a mini-mall on High House and NC55 in Cary. This place is small, clean, brightly lit, and decorated with low-cost furniture, and bare minimum decorations. It’s too unkind to call it divey, but it certainly embraces authentic spartan decorating styles of mom-and-pop Chinese joints. This is bare bones basic dining, not family dining experience. For example, there are no reusable cutlery and their spoons are exceptionally flimsy and don’t expect an steaming mug of jasmine tea here. Cokes are in the fridge. The proprietors speak Cantonese, but their menu is focused on Americanized Chinese food. So come here for Mu Shu Pork, General Tso’s Chicken, Egg Fu Young, and Orange Chicken. They advertise that their chicken is organic. And their vegetables are fresh, crisp, and well prepared in a wok. Prices are quite affordable — roughly $ 5−8/dish and downright cheap for lunchtime meals(oddly priced $ 5.29, which ends up being $ 5.79 with tax). They are happy to cater the dishes to your preferences and the female proprietor gleefully yells the order in Cantonese back to what I have to assume is her husband. I asked for no MSG and, contrary to many other places, actually got a meal without MSG. The food quality can be best described as «inoffensive». It is well-cooked, hot, but is bland and flat. And that is a shame. I would actually prefer something that is too oily, too salty, too sugary, too spicy, too something than the meals here — which seemed very«meh». If there was a word of advice that I’d give the cooks, it’s get a bit more adventuresome on your flavors — dig the wok spatula a bit deeper into the garlic, sugar, Chinese vinegar, and spices. It’s okay to try, but perhaps the worst thing you can be is absolutely forgettable. Best Chinese is still C&T Wok in Morrisville, about 8 minutes away by car.

Kathy is always polite, friendly, and courteous. They do a great job with take out and accommodating my requests from their menu. You will not be disappointed, give them a try and enjoy!

Good food at a much lesser price. Found the lady at the desk to be courteous. I was surprised to see them use only organic chicken. Kudos to them for having the same price as other restaurants of their kind and still manage to serve organic chicken. Their take out portions are very generous. Bottomline: Good food and very reasonable price. Will come back.

Disappointed overcharged and had to return to have order corrected. Have been here several times when the drive to c& t proves too long. Previous visits are the only reason for rating not being a 2 star

Their lunch specials are worth it. Big portion for $ 5. I wish I had known about this last year. FYI, this place in the beginning looks sketched but their food is good.

Order plain white rice and it was horrible. It was mushy like baby food. I’m assuming it was over cooked.

Hands down the best General Tso’s Chicken in the area. Ask for«spicy» and you won’t regret it. Owners are super friendly and the service is quick!

I’m not from NYC so I guess that puts me at a disadvantage for knowing what«real» Chinese food is, but I’ll give it a try anyway… This place is OK. Just average. And, I’m going with 2 instead of 3 stars because I don’t plan on being back. Both my wife and I agree, everything was flat. The Wonton Soup needs more salt and flavor. Same for the Egg Drop Soup. The Sweet and Sour sauce needed more sugar. The dipping sauce for the Pork Steamed Dumplings was lacking a bit in flavor. The Pork Fried Rice was probably one of my least favorites that I’ve tried. On a positive, the actually dumplings for the Pork Steamed Dumplings and the chicken for the Sweet and Sour chicken were both good. That’s it, those are the starting dishes we like to try from any Chinese place and they just didn’t make the cut here.

Simple statement. I am from New York, the mecca of Americanized chinese food, so you know I am experienced. I have sampled several local chinese food places and have mostly been disappointed. Hong Kong 1 is a true gem. Ridiculously good chinese food at reasonable prices. REAL Eggrolls are great. Wonton soup was on point WITHPORKSTRIPS at the bottom. Fried rice was delicious. Chicken and broccoli, pork spare ribs and sesame chicken were great quality. Added bonus is they claim to use organic white meat chicken in their dishes. Cons of this place were if it gets busy, they have trouble dealing producing the food at a quick rate(small staff but this is because they really focus on QUALITY rather than pushing out orders) and their chinese crackers are generic mass produced ones from another company. Surprising because they do everything else up right. Overall a great place to go

This is, in my opinion, the best takeout Chinese in the triangle area. The shrimp in the shrimp and broccoli are huge and the fried rice is excellent.

Finally a good Chinese take out place. A good selection for vegetarians. Sometime you need to be extra clear while placing an order over the phone. A few times we have got egg in our rice when we asked not to put eggs.
