It doesn’t really matter if you come here for the drinks or the food, you won’t be disappointed. My wife and I originate from San Diego, where you can’t throw a rock and not hit a mexican food place. Coming to Carson City, at first, was hard to handle, since many people we initially talked to laughed when we mentioned good mexican food(Many thought of Taco Bell). San Marcos brought us the food we missed from home, and then some. The food is something that even the toughest of critics(like my daughter) can appreciate. I’ve never had bad food from here. I’ve actually never had anything except great food from here. The service is on point. I believe in several times that I have been, I might have had mediocre service once. If you go, ask about the tequila tasting that they have. Ask how many they have to taste(all I remember is that it was over 100 when I asked last). If you’re looking for great mexican food, but don’t want to drive closer to Mexico to get it, this is the place to go.

Oh my gosh — how have I not written a review for San Marcos Grill yet? My family comes here all the time. As SoCal natives, we can’t get rid of our addiction to Mexican food. We were spoiled when we lived in San Diego, so now when we go out for Mexican, it’s such a treat. So far, San Marcos Grill is the closest thing we’ve found to what we had back home. After having lived in California, Arizona, and now Nevada, I notice there are many variations to Mexican food style. California tends to be more«Baja», where as Arizona and Nevada are different. More gritty and heavy. I think San Marcos has a nice mix of both styles. In my visits here I’ve had a number of dishes, but my two favorites are the Chicken Enchiladas and then Tacos de Asada. I think the tacos are my favorite above all. However, I will admit that I always feel there may be one tiny ingredient missing. I honestly don’t know what it is. This last time, I ordered queso to be added to the tacos, and that made them very nearly perfect! The rice and beans are fresh. We usually add a little salt to the beans, but we love the fact that they bring salsa, chips, AND beans to the table as an appetizer. We’ve also ordered the guacamole. I forget what it’s named on the menu, but it’s the guacamole they make at the table. We had the server put in every ingredient — except the super hot stuff. It was delicious! Apart from that, they actually have some really yummy mixed drinks. Especially in the wintertime. They usually have one advertised on the placard set at the table. If you’re ever feeling in the mood, I’d say go for it. If I could complain about anything, it’d be the service. They are sloooooooow. It’s not too bad when it’s a family dinner and you’re all enjoying each other’s company. But if you have a movie to get to or just wanted a quick dinner, it can be a problem. And you often need to ask for refills of a beverage or of the chips. That being said, we’ll definitely keep coming back. The food is good and they’re close by our home. It’s our go-to Mexican food fix. Happy feasting!

We had a Christmas lunch here yesterday. They’ve some new menu on their list. I ordered the pollo con mango, my husband ordered the halibut tacos & our other 2 family ordered chimichanga & blackened fish tacos. The pollo con mango was so yummy. The chicken were so moist and tender. The slices mango and yellow squash were crisp. The sauce was perfect! Halibut tacos were delicious but the fish was a little bit dry but still good though. The chimichanga was good as always & the blackened fish tacos was perfect. Service was always friendly and nice.
