Lunch here today was wonderful! The plate my food was served on was so huge we starting laughing! I had the chili relleno(what i always order at a new mexican place) and it was pretty darn good! My husband had this awesome chimichanga that was filled with shrimp and crab meat, was yummy. There was so much food i had a lot to take home, which is fine with me, i have lunch for tomorrow now. Two thumbs up!

Good and friendly service. Tapatio, Cholula, and ElYucateco habanero on the table. The food was good, lunch portions were fair. Huge enchaladas options, will definitely come back to sample more. Food and drinks came out promptly, and I never had to ask for a refill. At the end of the meal we were presented with a nice little dessert.

Food was pretty good, great chips and salsa while waiting for our meal. I had the flautas, but they were a tad overdone, making the edges have a slight burned flavor. The rice was some of the best I’ve had. Very prompt service, and a nice environment.

Very attentive service right off the bat. On top of the usual chips and salsa they give you a small plate of refried beans to dip your chips. Loved the salsa. It was just the right taste of smokiness paired with cilantro. My husband ordered the Aguila Special-carne asada, chicken, and shrimp. With rice and beans. Thinking it wasn’t going to be that big he added a chile rellano. I ordered chicken flautas and, again not knowing the mass of the plates, I ordered a shredded beef taco on the side. Let me tell you, when the food came the plates were gigantic! The quality? It was awesome. My husband dived in and didn’t come up till he was done. My flautas were perfectly crisp and the chicken was moist and cooked to perfection. I couldn’t even get to my taco. But I did appreciate the comp cinnamon tortilla chips with whip cream as a dessert. All in all, this is definitely my new favorite Mexican restaurant. The menu is varied enough that you can find something for everyone. Even kids who’d prefer chicken nuggets… hamburgers too. This restaurant thinks of everything. Loved it. Will be planning another visit soon.

Big portions. I like their chimichanga and tamale meal. BOGO margaritas fri-sat and 1 kid eats free on sundays!

I forgot to post this review from the last time I was in Carson City, not that it was such a forgettable place or anything. El Aguila Real Mexican Restaurant is located on the eastern side of Carson City around US50 and Airport Rd. Located back in the shopping center that has the Dairy Queen, it’s a bit hard to see. I came here for lunch with my BF mid week a few weeks ago. It seems only locals come here. He knows I like chorizo and they have a chorizo burrito here. It’s a smallish restaurant with a room off to the right side for more dining. We are seated right away and given menus. Just waters to drink this time around. I see the combo plate with 2 chorizo burritos for $ 11.50. My BF gets the combo with 2 chili verde burritos. Both come with bean and rice, but I hate beans, so I get mine 2X rice. The free chips that come to the table are nice. Nothing too different, it’s nice besides the salsa, you get a small plate of warm refried beans to dip the chips into. Our food arrives in short order. Holy Mother of Jesus eating a tortilla! Those plates are almost the size of a manhole cover! Hot huge plates of twin burritos smothered in sauce and melted cheese, mine surrounded by Mexican rice and the other flanked by rice and a huge pool of refried beans. Lucky I got pictures of this! This is a shit load of food! Well, there was no way either of us was gonna finish our plates, so we agreed to eat half and take the rest home. My chorizo burrito was mighty tasty and not all greasy the way some Mexican style chorizo ends up. The rice was nice and light. My BF liked his pork verde burrito that was basically all filled with pork and green sauce. That’s a ton of food for $ 11.50. We finished our half plates and had 2 heavy to go boxes to take home. OK, this was a decent Mexican restaurant. Nothing super fancy or gourmet, but good basic Mexican food for a decent price.

This was our very first visit to this restaurant. We were treated by some new friends to a wonderful dinner at this lovely little restaurant Monday evening. The food was excellent, the service was great. The ladies were right on it all evening. The pricing was about average with most places we go to. The music wasn’t so loud we couldn’t have a conversation, very nice change of pace. Most places drive you out with the loud noise on the speakers. Some of the best Mexican food I’ve had in the Carson area in a long time. I’ll gladly recommend this restaurant to anyone who asks!

Stopped in here today for lunch with the family. The atmosphere was nice, typical for your medium-size non-chain Mexican restaurant. It was clean, comfortable and had professional looking menus. The service was good. Friendly(if a little quiet), helpful staff without being over attentive or in your face. The food was pretty good. Not the best I’ve had, but not bad either. Read on for details. The chips were quite tasty, and definitely could have been made in the restaurant. The salsa was fresh with large chunks of tomato, onion and cilantro, and had just the right balance of flavor and heat. They also served the chips and salsa with small plates of refried beans — tasty, and good for tempering the heat of the salsa to get you ready for more. I ordered the two enchiladas lunch special, one chicken and one shredded beef. It was served with the usual rice and beans. The chicken enchilada was tastier than the beef, but both were just average. Nothing to get excited about. The rice and beans were also average. Another person at our table had guacamole with their meal, which I sampled and actually found quite disappointing. It was very bland and a sickly pale color. It didn’t look or taste at all like fresh guac should. The restaurant was pretty empty for lunchtime, though it was a Tuesday. Maybe they’d be busier on a weekend. Our food was ready fairly quickly after we ordered — about the time our chip baskets ran dry. The server did ask if we wanted more chips, and promptly brought them to our table with our meal, along with a pitcher of water so our glasses never hit bottom. 5 stars for service. After we had all finished, the server brought out a plate with a lightly fried tortilla topped with cinnamon sugar, honey and whipped cream, sliced into wedges with one for each of us(sopapillas?). They were absolutely delicious — the perfect ending to our meal and even better since they were complimentary. I would go back again just for them. Prices were reasonable. My meal was $ 8.75 and I left with a full stomach. The bill for all 6 of us(4 adults, 2 kids) was just under $ 50(none of us ordered beverages) and 3 people in our group took home leftovers. Overall it was a good meal and a pleasant experience. Not the best Mexican food I’ve had, but I would come back.

Located in a strip center, the place doesn’t have a lot of «atmosphere,» but that’s not what we came for, anyway. I love Mexican food, and, living in Boston, MA there’s not much to choose from. So, on a recent trip to Carson City I jumped on every opportunity to satisfy my craving for GOOD Mexican comida. That’s exactly what I found at El Aguila Real. The chips, frijoles & salsa were very good and ample. The plates were full and arrived extremely hot. Curiously, though, the food itself wasn’t quite as hot… just a smidge over«warm.» I had a combo with chile relleno & an enchilada. Both were good. There were 5 of us and we all cleaned our plates with no audible complaints, other than the temp of the food. The fried tortilla chips with cinnamon & honey served complimentary as dessert were a nice touch. Prices were family friendly and service was outstanding. If I found myself in the area again, I wouldn’t hesitate to stop in.

Its okay, its what we call gringoized Mexican food. It is not very spicy and made for an American taste bud. The flavors of true authentic Mexican cooking has been dulled to serve a more tamer taste bud.

Perfectly acceptable standard Mexican food. The service was very gruff, but efficient. I won’t go out of my way to come back, but I don’t regret stopping by here.

Food here is very good. Wonderful enchilada’s. Large portions. I like to share a meal with a friend when I come in. Their Tortilla Soup is devine. My family and friend eat here as much as we can.

Came here people tonight with the BF for a little date, only a few customers for a Saturday at 6 pm. So, we ordered the small nachos deluxe with chicken to share, along with a crab enchilada ala carte and the BF had a beer and I water. The waitress bought the chips out and I kid you not 3 min. later here was the meal. How is that possible? The food was standard and predictable, which I guess is why we go here. The total bill was just under $ 17.00 which seems higher than what we usually pay for dinner here. I’m not complaining, just wondering out loud if it went up.

I agree it’s a nice Mexican restaurant with a large menu and reasonable prices. It’s not a bad option for a midweek dinner out. My only negative comment is that it’s in a strip mall with no atmosphere. The booths are not that comfortable and the lighting is too bright but on the other hand the service is quick. It’s not a place that you linger, pretty much order, eat and leave all within 45 to 60 minutes.

I’m not confident enough to give 5 stars, but other than that, I loved the feel of the place, the aroma, the freshness of the food and the green salsa was happenin”. Muy Bueno!

Let me take you through a meal at El Aguila Real… and why it is so fantastic. First, they moved locations about two or three years ago. The new restaurant is fabulous. It even has a separate room for parties and such(fiestas!) It is in a brand new building and a nice clean shopping center with plenty of parking galore. The hostesses are always very welcoming and lovely. You are seated, and within moments they bring you chips and salsa(green and red). They also bring you some of their hot re fried beans on a small plate for dipping the chips in. This is my favorite part of all. The food is always delicious. The portions are generous. If you are not up for a huge meal, just get two a la carte tacos. That is enough to fill you up — with the chips, salsa, bean dip and free little desserts. Little«roof shingles»(large tortilla chips) with honey, cinnamon sugar and a dollop of whipped cream! Don’t forget a cold Corona or one of their Jaurito sodas. I had the pineapple Jaurito(however you spell it — I’m white) and it was great. I drive all the way to Carson City sometimes from Reno just to eat here. When will they open a location in Reno!!! Please! Soon I hope!!! Until then, El Aguila in Carson City will have to do. I believe they have two other locations in Topaz and Minden… They should get outdoor seating. That would be great! Oh — I almost forgot to tell you about their birthday hat. At their old location inside the old Taco Bell, I used to go here like ten years ago. I went here for my fifteenth birthday, and for your birthday they have you wear this big hilarious sombrero hat. It is great. They take your picture and put it up on the wall! They used to have all of the photos on the wall… but I am not sure if they do this anymore. Good times!

The best mexican food I’ve had in a long time, and definitely the best in Carson– Very good if you like those Gringo«slurry» plates where the cheese and sauce melts into one great big thing– I loved it. In my opinion, the mark by which a mexican place is measured is… can they make a good relleno? Getting the texture of egg and cheese just right without overcooking the pepper. And this place does it correctly– Attention to detail– good frijoles and rice– the salsa is outstanding– I recommend this place.

the only thing that makes this restaurant different is the free desert you get at the end. otherwise like most mexican restaurants the food tastes like it came out of a can(salsas and rice)

This is(for Carson City) a good Mexican Restaurant(our number 2 after El Charo Avitia). Excellent margaritas, great salsas, and a pretty good varity on the menu. Some meals are not particularly spicy, but good anyway. Most are very tasty and appropriately spicy. The service is excellent.
