Love the food here and normally it is the epitome of Southern hospitality that matches the comfort and homeyness of the food, however today there was no greeting, no welcome, and the employees acted like it was a bother for us to be here. The guy that finally waited on us was sweet, but was so new he was struggling – and no one trained was around to help him. I felt bad for him because he really was trying. This is not the level of excellence I have come to expect from Plates over the many years of coming here. I hope this does not become the standard.

Plates is my favorite«go to» spot. I go there at least three times a week. The service is exceptional and the menu is a unique combination of a variety of flavors. I would highly recommend Plates to anyone who would like a nice date night, or a fun place to meet nice people. The downstairs is more of an elegant dining experience, the upstairs is a more relaxed environment with a more social atmosphere! And Sunday brunch is my favorite on Sunday mornings!

Just off work and wanted a good burger so i came to the square in Carrollton. The place was packed but i got a seat quickly. I ordered the fried pickles which was outstanding. Then i ordered the burger of the week acoffee spiced rubbed burger whick sounded awesome on the menu. It was ok overall but nowhere as good as the smell coming from the kitchen that call my nose from across the street. The service was great i will probably return but will ask the waiter what is recommended next time

Delicious every time I come here. I love their breakfast & lunch croissants. Staff is always friendly and I love the option of dining outside.

Being Carroll County residents, We’ve loved eating here for years. The food is usually good & sometimes even great. In the past 3 months, though, every time we go it’s been an unpleasant experience. We took 12 people in for a b’day dinner in March & at 8:00 pm they were out of chicken & service was horrible. Most of our guests were from out of town & we felt bad after all the bragging we’d done on Plates. In April, they were out of half of what 4 guests ordered. Mothers Day brunch @ noon… no bread or chicken! Their servers are always very friendly & courteous, even if slow. Won’t be going back anytime soon.

Visiting friends in Carrollton and wanted something decent for lunch. We’ve seen this place several times and decided to give it a shot. Being foodies, my hubby and I try to eat at local spots when we get the opportunity. Atmosphere is nice and casual although I think they may be shooting for something more than that. We were seated quickly. Host was nice and friendly. Our server’s first day was today. Pretty typical for us. She was okay, not terrible or great. I’m sure she’ll get better as she gets comfortable with the job. I ordered General Tso’s chicken with medium heat. My kids shared the hibachi chicken and my husband had the Santa Fe/southwest salad.(Can’t remember the exact name). The portions for the first two dishes were a little small for the price. The salad was a nice size portion. The GT’s chicken was pretty good. I would say the equivalent to a PF Chang’s. The veggies and pineapple were really al dente which I liked for the extra crunch. Chicken was a little dry. The hibachi chicken was okay. Nothing else to really say about it. My husband’s salad was pretty good: nice selection of greens, over boiled eggs, prepackaged bacon and a few other fresh and canned selections. When I asked him what he thought, he replied with, «No comment.» Overall, I gave it 3 stars for being a small town restaurant trying to be better than a small town restaurant. The intention is there, but the execution is not.

Went there for Sunday Brunch yesterday and it was delicious. My Husband and I both had the fried Chicken served with 3 sides. We both had Mac & Cheese(creamy and delicious) and Broccoli Casserole.(Better than mine and mine is great). Then he had Black Eyed Peas which he said were probably the best he’s ever had, and I had Sweet Potato Casserole which was absolutely the best I’ve ever had. We will definitely be back for brunch. They had a killer looking omelette and delicious looking grits that I want to try.

I was looking for a solid place to eat for dinner in Carrollton, and I heard that Plates on the Square was a local favorite; so I had to give it a try. First impressions: the wait staff was very welcoming, and we were seated quickly because the restaurant wasn’t exactly crazy busy on a Monday night. The place itself definitely had that homey feel of a local restaurant, and the style of it seemed pretty consistent with the smalltown-downtown feel of the Square. They had a varied menu, and multiple items on it sounded pretty good at the time. Dining experience: I ended up ordering a blue cheese burger with fries. I requested for a medium rare cook on my burger, but the wait staff informed me that the burger would be medium well and asked me whether I would take it still. I was fine with it since I didn’t think that was worth making a big fuss over. However, my burger was not cooked medium well; it was cooked dry. The outside of the patty was crunchy shell and the inside was flavorless. Looking back, I can’t believe I actually ate it; I guess it was edible. Clearly, they just don’t know burgers over there. It was a pretty downhill dining experience since the fries were pretty good(fresh cuts of potato with the skin on), and the free side of bread I got earlier was even better. The bread was literally a carb pillow that melted in your mouth, and the herb better they serve alongside it makes it even awesomer. I was actually missing the free starter bread while I was eating my burger. Much sad. My friend ordered a pot roast platter; it looked pretty good, but I wouldn’t pay $ 20 bucks for it. This is apparently a widely accepted favorite in Carrollton; so it’s unfortunate that I had such a crumby first experience. Maybe I missed something(like ‘stay away from the burgers’).

Plates is local staple on downtown Carrollton square. The menu has many different options to satisfy what you are in the mood for. They have great appetizers and Im a big fan of their Bison burger. If you go during lunch it fills up quickly and creates a wait which can sometimes be a challenge. The service is great and usually the wait is not very long.

I can’t review the food since we waited for over an hour and never even got the cheese tray we ordered for an appetizer. The kitchen has to be extremely disorganized to not even be able to get a cheese platter out. The food LOOKED good. The wait staff was extremely nice and apologized over and over for the kitchen.

I’ve come to Plates many late nights to enjoy their upstairs bar however, I came here for lunch a few weeks back and was very surprised at the variety of food choices. Their menu included Mexican, Japanese & American dishes. I tried the chicken hibachi. No, it’s not like when you go to an actual hibachi restaurant but they do put their own twist on things! They included a side of yum yum sauce that taste just right! Besides the food our waiter was great! We were seated immediately and it took us awhile to decided what we wanted and we didn’t feel rushed at all. My friend decided to try a spicy chicken and he made sure to refill her cup before she could even realize it was low. I have no complaints!

Don’t make reservations. They mean nothing but a wait and an excuse. And there score is 80.

Awesome place– I’ve shown up with fairly large parties more than once and the staff is always very accommodating. The food is fantastic! The bar upstairs is a great place to stop in after work for a drink. Highly recommended!

After seeing all the good reviews, my wife and I had hoped to experience a great dinner tonight, but we were both very disappointed. I ordered the cedar grilled salmon(their signature dish) which was very good, but I’m pretty sure it was not sitting on a piece of cedar. There was no cedar flavor at all. The block of wood just smelled like charred wood. The green beans were canned and overcooked to a state of mush. My wife had a burger which was overdone and completely lacking in seasoning, and her fries were cold. The service was below average.

Found this place in downtown Carrollton. Nice atmosphere, great service, and very good food. My son loved his burger… I had the chicken sandwich… and the wife had the nachos. Lunch fare at dinner. Would definitely come back when in town.

A brief stop in Carrolton turned into a four hour layover. Thanks to Unilocal,we located Plates. The downtown location in an old building provided a cool vibe/atmosphere. We were there at lunch and it wasn’t overly crowded, allowing us to be seated quickly and talk business without interruption. The staff was friendly and the food was great. The menu ranged from tuna, chicken and pork to hamburgers, Chinese, Japanese and Mexican. Often, an eclectic menu like this hints that the food will be marginal at best. Not so! I opted for the pot roast sandwich with sweet potato fries and my buddy got got the ahi tuna spinach wrap. Neither meal disappointed and this place would be on my itinerary if I found myself in Carrolton again. I reserve five stars for places that are out-of-this-world, so plates gets a solid 4.4(not quite enough to be rounded up to 5).

A must eat place in Carrollton. When I found out I was traveling to Carrollton to work everyone who had been there before mentioned Plates on the Square. I’m glad they did, because it was delicious. The atmosphere of this place is laid back and trendy. This seems like a good group place and I saw tons of groups dining here. They have a fun mixed drinks menu. I don’t like to drink, but if I did it is places like this that I do it at. I started with Craig’s salad. It was delicious! I then got the Elk Meatloaf. The sweet potatoes were really sweet, but good. The green beans tasted like they came from a can. I liked the Elk Meatloaf. It tasted really meaty if that makes any sense. The servers were very nice. My only complaint is my Meatloaf came while I was only half way through my salad. I felt rushed to finish my salad. I would have rather waited for my main after finishing my salad then getting it early. Overall this is a great place to eat and I would highly suggest it!

Excellent food and friendly service. They seated eight of us within minutes on a Saturday night after a less than desirable experience at another restaurant. Our waitress was adorable and very accommodating. Very nice atmosphere. Would recommend.

Only wait to order was on the rest of our large group to arrive. Everyone seemed happy with their selections. Even in our large group there were so many options we could have all selected something different. I chose the Smokehouse Grilled Cheese with BBQ pork added on recommendation from the waiter. There was a good deal more pork than I expected. Probably would have been just as good without. Service was great. Would definitely consider returning when in the area again.
