Quite a lot of grass has died in my lawn as a result of the current dry weather pattern that we are experiencing, so I came over here to purchase some new grass seed with the hopes of bringing my once verdant lawn back to life.
I bought 2 40-​pound bags of rye grass seed that cost about $ 23 each, which is a great deal. 80 pounds of grass seed is enough to seed 3 baseball fields, so I’ll have plenty of leftovers in case I’m not initially successful. The cashier who checked me out was very friendly and expedient.
The store itself is practically a gardener’s dream. It contains a spectacular selection of all types of seeds, along with the necessary equipment to manage even the most recalcitrant yard. All of this at fabulously low prices, and a knowledgeable and helpful staff. A parking lot with ample parking can be found out in front of the store.
I highly recommend this hardware store, as it earns a very deserving 5 stars out of 5. I WILL return frequently in the future for my gardening needs.

The staff is smart, friendly, and helpful… old-​school service that’s hard to find anywhere else. Definitely worth going a little out of the way to go here instead of HD or Lowes.

Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes! They have exceeded all of my expectations.
We wanted to plant our first vegetable garden ever this season. They talked us through all the steps, helped us figure out exactly what we needed, and had everything we needed. And, the hours are extremely convenient, so I can go before or after work without having to rush. This totally gave us the confidence to dig up part of our yard and start planting.
With their help, our herbs and veggies have taken off. Now, I’m finding all sorts of things things that can go wrong (bugs, deer, etc.). But, every time I have a problem, I go here and the problem is solved immediately.
This place is teeming with expertise and experience that have kept my garden healthy. Southern States is an incredible and invaluable resource!

They have an annual pottery sale every August. This year they are also had a perennial plant sale running concurrently as well. Their pottery selection is quite extensive — so if you are looking for an outdoor planter pot, this is the place. Pick up plants to fill them at the same time.
Southern States also carries a limited selection of pet supplies (cats, dogs, horses, …), gardening supplies, etc. The store is conveniently located right next to Harirs Teeter and has its own large parking lot.
The price of some of their items seem a bit higher than you might find elsewhere and selection can be somewhat limited, but to me convenience is the main draw.
