Unbelievable! In a good way! I’ve had three meals so far. The meatloaf is honest to goodness homemade. One can always tell the difference. Same goes for sweet potato pie and the pumpkin pancakes I’ve also eaten. About as good as it gets.

This diner has a big following and is rated better than our(first) experience with it. We went there for lunch on Thursday and were quite disappointed. My wife ordered Scoop & Bowl– a scoop of tuna and a bowl of tomato basil soup. She said that the soup was good, but the tuna salad was pretty tasteless. Her iced tea was bitter. I had a salmon cakes meal, two small limpy cakes with little flavor, mashed potatoes with skin and string beans. The salmon cakes and potatoes came out barely warm with the potatoes too wet and really no skin mixed in. The string beans were typical for a diner.

My wife and I went to Elmo’s this morning for breakfast. Good variety on the breakfast menu. We had omelettes that were very good and very large +2 sides to choose from. Good value at $ 8.75.

My fiancé and I went here for brunch one day. We were new in town and wanted to try something local. This place did not disappoint. The food was very good. Hot and Fresh as you would expect. Be prepared for a wait on the weekends but it is totally worth it.

Line always long AF, so be sure to get your name in right before you scoop up the homies for brunch.

Ok so when you hear«diner», you might be picturing a small-town, cheap, fast, classic joint that has bacon and eggs, grits, homemade biscuits, pancakes, and coffee. Elmo’s really isn’t any of those things because it’s in Carrboro, so if you like bagels, vegan or gluten-free options(including the pancakes and homemade breads), biscuits that aren’t very buttery, long waits to be seated, and otherwise aren’t really interested in anything classically«diner», you’ll love it here. I have enjoyed at least a few meals here such as a recent shrimp special over sweet cornbread with corn, salsas, and avocado, but as you can see that is hardly a typical breakfast craving for most. The long waits are definitely another reason why I often go elsewhere on weekend mornings, but mainly it’s just that this type of food is not what I normally eat or crave.

I absolutely love coming here. It’s one of the best diners I’ve been to. Their lunch and dinner items are great, but breakfast is my favorite. You can’t go wrong with the typical breakfast items like eggs and toast, etc. Their omelettes are my favorite! It sounds so weird, but the lox and cream cheese omelette is so delicious. The milkshakes and Malts are amazing also. A classic chocolate milk is a-ok with me! Also, they just started serving bacon cheese fries, and they’re my favorite ones I’ve had!

Decided to give this place one more try before moving away from the area. It’s still very busy in the mornings, expect a 30 – 45 minute wait on Saturdays & Sundays. Food is still pretty good, and the big thing I noticed was a completely different staff. I didn’t recognize any of the faces I had seen before. That includes the guy I had complained about before, nowhere to be seen. I guess the turnover rate is high in a student-driven town. Overall, this has been a pretty good place during my 6 months in Carrboro and I’ll probably drop back in if I’m ever in the area again.

LOVE Elmo’s! It’s so difficult to find a restaurant that you can always count on for a decent meal these days. They’ve got a menu that can be mixed up, switched up, and swapped. It’s really a no-frills place, but it’s clean and the service is reasonably quick. They also have one of THE best gluten free menus I’ve seen. And I don’t mean that they just push the salads and veggie entrees — they have gluten free bread options for most of their items. Try an omelet, or one of their daily specials – Elmo’s never disappoints!

I’ve eaten here three times, and it’s never been anything but mediocre. I will give them credit for consistency. Each time, I stood with other guests in the entryway waiting for the host(ess) for an unreasonable amount of time. Being busy is fine, but failing to acknowledge guests is bad business. Service is always okay, but nothing notable. Each time, the food was not particularly good quality, not particularly well-prepared, and yet not bad enough to send back. Canned ingredients, in opinion, have no place in restaurants, with few exceptions. The last time I ate there, I had a dish that included mushrooms. Canned mushrooms. Nope. Never going back.

This is the kind of place that is reliable and does not really fail. Good variety of comfort dishes from omelettes, burgers and all day spaghetti. I also love the casual atmosphere if you are ever in need of something easy, especially after a yoga workout. The service is very friendly and food can come out really quick. This is a plus for even when you have 4+ people. It is popular in the Carrboro area so if you go during the brunch rush you will definitely wait for a table. I recommend the Orange Blueberry French Toast and Belgian Waffles for a sweet breakfast treat anytime.

I was debating whether to have it be 3 stars or 4 stars. This is a good place but it has its problems. First let’s start with the good stuff. The service is really good and the waiters are usually pretty nice and they talk to you and stuff. The food is also pretty good. It’s not fancy or anything but as the name says it is a diner. There is a variety of good food. They have salads sandwiches burgers and«square meals» they are just different meals you can choose. Also they sell breakfast all day. The deserts are also really good. The cobbler and the milk shakes are my favorite but they have cakes and pies. Now for the reason I made this 3 stars. They are usually busy which is not too bad but there can be a long wait. Also they sometimes forget parts of your meal and they get parts of your order wrong. Otherwise this is a good local restaurant which is good for children!

Elmo’s is one of my old standbys. I love going there for a midday weekend meal. I am always prepared to wait when I go because it gets crowded on the weekends. Its nice they have self-serve coffee outside and you can walk around the shops at Carr Mill. The service is hit or miss but its usually because everyone is so busy and you can tell the servers are working hard. My favorite is the grilled chicken greek pita. Two kinds of cheese, grilled chicken and veggies in a warm pita with a tzatziki type sauce on the side. And their crinkle cut fries… yum! Their menu is huge and I always want to try other stuff but always end up going back to the pita. They have daily specials as well and excellent breakfast. It’s always a lot of food for the money. Very casual.

LOVELOVELOVE! Never disappointed by Elmo’s! They have large portions, great specials, and even when they’re busy everything comes out quickly and still surprisingly delicious. They are also excellent with food allergies(I have a peanut, tree nut, and sesame allergy). Sometimes when I have a question, restaurants give me a hard time about speaking with a manager or chef. A manager always comes over if I have a question about a new food item I want to try, even when it’s busy, or the server talks to the manager/kitchen for me(depending on the complexity of the question). They are very well-versed in cross-contamination and the ingredients they use. Great place all around: service, quality, quantity, and atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Cool place, but pretty typical diner food. I had the salmon cake and eggs and my boyfriend had the pancake special(something covered in frosting!). Both were a-okay. Service was good. I’d go back, because I happen to like diner food, but it’s nothing special.

Yum omlete as always. Always get there homemade bread as a side carb, so yummy. Love their cinnamon apples and home fries. Always hate to choose between two amazing sides. Service is hit and miss, but given how pack the place is, I can’t blame them.

Elmo’s is located in an old mill in the center of Carrboro(on the back side) The exterior is the brick of the mill — the interior furnished like a diner but with a little more space. Elmo’s is really popular on a weekend morning — expect a line unless you’re very early. The food was really good — I had a Santa Fe breakfast bowl with sausage — mildly spicy with fresh corn fritters, sweet potatoes, black beans, scrambled eggs, feta and avocado. It was a wonderful mixture of flavors and a great breakfast. I’d make a special trip here for breakfast — one of the only breakfast places in town open before 10am. That’s not to say that their later opening competitors aren’t good — Carrboro’s getting some good food these days.

A pretty solid diner. With breakfast all day, tons of sides, typical blue plate specials, home baked bread, desserts lengthy and delicious… Great all around. The pumpkin apple bread was a perfect side for the diner perfect salmon cakes — un-canned perfection. Broccoli casserole, cheesy bready cruciferous satisfaction is a must. The portions are huge, salads to sandwiches. Save room for the lengthy pie and cobbler list, too!

There are lots of vegetarian options on the menu, which I love, but the food at this location is a little bland. I had a better experience eating at the Elmo’s Diner in Durham. Additionally, the service in the Carrboro location is not that great — my waitress forgot my cup of coffee and sent someone else to bring me a cup 15 minutes after I asked where my coffee was, which was about 20 minutes after getting my food. This place is always crowded during brunch on weekends as well with a pretty long wait so early in the day.
