Old fashioned bake shops are hard to find these days, with the takeover of the big supermarkets and discount stores that shove all the pre-made junk at you. The baked goods at Sauer’s are pretty good; but some actually look better than they taste. I hate that. The staff(the older members) are often not very customer service oriented… they tend to be a little quick and rather rude at times. They should try being as sweet as their wares.

Very good cookies. Their pound cake is mediocre. The staff wasn’t nice but having been here numerous times, the staff seems to be bothered when you need to purchase items.

They have really great Butter Cookies that are exactly the way I remember my German-American Grandma making them. It’s very comforting, but they are not my favorite item here. I cannot come in without leaving with a Diamond. I can’t recall if they call them Raspberry Diamonds or Almond Diamonds. It could be a combination of both words, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is that you get one of these because it’s one of my favorite pastries in the world. It’s soft and slightly flaky with a sweet raspberry filling mixed in with an amaretto paste and topped with a little icing and sliced almonds. It’s practically perfect in every way. The only downside is that I’m sure it’s high in calories, but it’s totally worth every bite!

I’ve lived in Carol Stream for a little over a year now, and kept telling myself I have to stop by sometime and try some of their danish. I find myself to be somewhat of a pastry and danish snob because I was spoiled from a bakery I used to work at in Burr Ridge with some seriously good pastries. Sauer’s Bakery, bravo, these were some exceptional danish. The pasrty was light, flakey and buttery. They were huge and for the price it’s almost a steal. I got a long john, German kolochkey and an almond pastry to share with some friends and I’m kicking myself for not trying more! Until next time. I HIGHLY recommend this bakery, very authentic and delicious.

Best fresh donuts around! Our whole family love’s the pastries from Sauer’s as well. It’s nice to have the old family owned small town bakery in the suburbs, you can’t beat the freshness and taste.

Great bakery– good donuts and cake. Small, family owned establishment that takes pride in what they do.

Not a bad bakery. Personally I like my items sweeter. My mom liked the sweetness because it wasn’t overly sweet and I think my sister would enjoy the bakery here.

How can you run a business, with unfriendly staff, AND most importantly is the lack of product. Twice now I have been into this establishment no later that 10:00AM and they don’t have all their bakery goods. If you dare ask«Sauer Puss» why they don’st have a certain donut or pastry she gives you a snotty answer, «we open early and have a lot of office workers that come in». Well how about your customers that come in at about 9:30AM on… what a unprofessional answer and tone… two strikes, and your out in my book… will not be returning… heard a new French Asian bakery in Schaumburg opened up …

The bakery goods are average. However when it comes to customer service… all the staff needs a lesson on friendliness… these women NEVERSMILE. Come on ladies your working with the public. If Jarosch were closer I would be going to them.

My family and I have been going to this bakery for a long time. I even had my wedding cake made there. The treats are great but some of the staff is incredibly rude. My husband has somewhat of a mohawk hairstyle and the one employee immediately laughed at him right in front of us the second we walked in. While the baked treats are good, I might think twice about returning there.

My goodness. This place is amazing. Phenomenal selection of breakfast pastries, donuts and sweets. They are the most friendly staff, and I cannot get enough of their danishes. I highly recommend a visit to Sauer’s. It’s tucked in the corner of the strip mall mall with the Jewel in it, so don’t overlook this gem!

I absolutely love this bakery and everything about it. The only even minor negative is location– it is really tucked away in a little strip mall, so if you don’t know what you are looking for it might be tough to find– but that is only a minor detail. I have had items from this bakery on four different occasions, and actually gone in to make a purchase myself only once. Items I have tried include– donuts, various pastries, sugar cookies, and cake. I’d say the donuts and pastries are above average– and that the cake and cookies were right on target. The service in the store itself was very friendly and speedy– and the prices are very fair. The only items that are«expensive» are the whole cakes– but that is to be expected when you are buying a whole cake. On my trip in to the store myself I purchased 1.5 lbs of their mini sugar cookies, one large smiley face cookie, and 4 pastries for right around $ 20– strong quality for the price. I would definitely come back again, and look forward to visiting my friend who always treats us to Sauer’s.

This bakery has been here for as long as I can remember. We have come here for cookies and cakes in the past. The staff are friendly. The items taste fresh and the store is clean. What more can you ask for? The items are about average in terms of flavor and taste.

I went here today. They were inside but closed. The door was locked. The posted hours have them open. No sure what the problem was. My wife tried the door, it was locked and the people inside did not answer. Big disappointment since we really like this place.

I’ve been coming here for about 5 years now, and their pastries are always good. We’ve ordered a couple of cakes and they always turn out beautiful and delicious. One of my favorites here are their donuts or brownies. It’s definitely one of the best bakeries in town!

I decided to go what I thought would be the higher end route and get a real bakery cake for my sons birthday instead of the lame Jewel cake. I called and ordered a yellow cake with chocolate buttercream frosting. What I got was a white cake with white whip cream frosting. Is it really that hard to make a cake the way the customer wants it? I let it go and brought it to my son’s party anyway. I, along with all the guests thought the cake was pretty low quality and no where near worth the price I paid. Will never return.

I catered my baby shower cake from here a few years ago and it was delicious. A bit on the pricey side but it was so much nicer than a jewel or a costco.(I should hope so.) They have a nice pumpkin bread during fall which is delicious. My hubby enjoys it a lot so we get it every year. Went in the other day and decided to try the famous smiley face cookie… Not sure if mine was old, but I am NOT a fan! It was hard and tasteless… I also got a basketball sugar cookie and an m&m one. I expected the m&m one to be the best but it was the worst. It was really hard and it just tasted old :(The basketball cookie was expected to be the worst, and lo and behold it turned out to be the best. Soft, chewy and the icing was delicious.

I came here because my Unilocal friend Pat suggested this place, that they might sell beloved crullers ^_^ I had the cheese pocket, apricot bearclaw, and the smiley face cookie. The total came to $ 7something. cheese pocket — 4.5 stars. The inside filling for the cheese pocket wasn’t overly sweet like a cheesecake. Light & flaky texture to the pastry with this powdered sugar crumb topping. apricot bearclaw — 3.5 stars. Good, but I didn’t much care for the taste of the apricot filling. smiley face cookie — 4.5 stars. The thick glaze and the chocolate frosting went perfectly with the delicate crumb of the cookie. The service was okay, but I was a bit unnerved by how the two employees watched me in silence. Like there weren’t overtures of friendliness or help. So I kinda felt this pressure to rush through, but maybe it was an off day. For now, it’s 4 stars for me with the potential to be higher.
