Hot Spot Hot Dogs

Love their chili dogs! Staff is very friendly and service is fast. I like to call in my order and it’s always ready. Once I forgot my debit and they offered me an IOU so I wouldn’t have to go back home to get my meal. Allowed me to take my meal and come back later to pay. This was on my first visit!

Just had a gyro lunch meal. Gyro was awesome and the fries were great. Will definitely be back.

Don’t bother going here. Every time we’ve walked all the way down here, they are closed even though the open sign is lit up and we arrive during the business hours posted on the door.

Great food, responsible prices, and fast service! My go to spot for a hot dog and fresh cut fries.

Jonesin’for a hot dog one day… pull up Unilocal and see that there is this place right up the road from where I am. Well that must be the place to go, stopped in ordered 2 chicago style dogs to go. I have to agree with another Unilocaler who wrote this may be the” Portillos replacement place” for a good reasonably priced dog. Quick service, in and out. @ 2.50 per dog. Not too bad nowadays, I mean try to find that price at a ball game…

People may disagree with me, but I feel that Hot Spot miiiigghhhttt be a replacement for The one and only Portillos sometimes. It’s just closer. The food is equally as oil and delicious though:

Came here with a $ 20 voucher that didn’t expire until February 2016. The cashier called the owner over, so I knew there was a problem. The owner goes on to tell me he canceled the offer and wasn’t going to honor any of them. He said he recently bought the business and it’s not fair to him and also not fair to me not to accept it, so he said he would take $ 10 off my meal. Not worth it to me because I wasn’t expecting to pay for anything so we left and went elsewhere. Then he said just to contact the website and return the voucher. Two stars for trying to work around the issue, but still not fully satisfying.

I love this place. The owner Sam makes you feel welcome, the food is fresh and very tasty. The fries are fresh cut and the food presentation is great.

This is a great fast food joint. It satisfied my greasy food craving. I ordered the 2 hot dogs, fries, and drink meal. Not bad for $ 6.50 and some change.
I may have allowed myself to be swooned by the glowing hot dog reviews prior to arrival, as the dogs fell a little short of expectations. The bun seemed a little too big for the dog… Still very tasty though. Also, there were no black poppy seeds. Either that’s for Chicago style only, or they stopped using poppy seeded buns after the owner changed.
The fries were delicious. The kind you want to keep popping into your mouth long after you are «full.» They were well seasoned, had a great smushy texture fresh and hot. I also ordered the Italian ice which was great on a hot day like today. It was filled nice and high and tasted great. Great friendly and quick service. I’ll be sure to go back.

We’ve been coming here since this place opened. The transition to the new ownership was handled nicely. Friendly service, the food has always been very good.
As far as pricing is concerned — I’d rather go to Hot Spot than go 3 times the distance & wait in line at Portillo’s. The only gripe I have about Hot Spot is they’re not open on Sundays.

I ordered delivery for a chili dog and cheese fries but I needed to order more for delivery so I ordered tamales. Dog and fries were fine not super great. But I got my tamales wrapped in foil and inside that was a common brand name wrapper still on tamale that you could get at the grocery store! I couldn’t believe it! Very disappointed. I did not expect a authentic fresh made tamale here which was fine but at least take the wrapper off!

I came for the hotdogs and was disappointed. I never heard of cucumbers on a hotdog but I ate it anyway. The bun was too big and DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE FRIES!!! The fries looked like they fried them BUT they were too greasy and it seemed as if they microwaved them then handed them to me… They didn’t give me a receipt but $ 6.70 or so for a drink, mediocre hotdogs and reheated fries was just not worth it. Tommy’s did a better job than them and I don’t even like Tommy’s anymore
My sister recommended this place. Will NEVER trust her recommendations again and neither will I go back.

The place smelled funky and the food wasn’t worth the price. My review is save your money and go to portillos.

Hotdogs and Italian Beef Sandwiches are TOO EXPENSIVE for their quality! Prices are higher then Portillos and that’s a ⁵⁄₅ forever

I heard this place was under new ownership so I decided to stop by. Actually I came here twice since it happened because I needed to confirm that this place deserved a downgrade.
Here is everything that went right and wrong with this place:
The fries: the main reason I had to take away a star from this place. They used to have fresh thin cut crispy fries which made them stand out. Now they suddenly switched to crappy soggy ass hand cut fries. The 2 times I ordered them they came soggy and oily.
The hot dog: I believe it is the same as before but I was never impressed with it. Too small for the bun.
The beef sandwich: pretty average. I ordered mine with sweet peppers and they gave me 2 tiny pieces of burnt black peppers. I showed the girl at the front and she apologized and offered to cook more but I declined because my sandwich would have fallen apart by then.
The Soda: the only redeeming quality about this place and the only improvement since new management. They added a drink fridge for the bottled drinks instead of having them sit in a bucket of ice all day.
The prices: by far the most aggravating thing about this place. If you’re going to charge the same prices as Portillos then you better step up to their quality of product. If not then you are doomed to fail.
I’ve never down rated a place before but this place deserves it. I’ve never seen quality go down at a place after new management so this is a first.

Decided to give the place a try after reading such good reviews here on Unilocal.
We only had regular hot dogs with fries so it wasn’t a great test. But it is a hot dog place so that should be the best item on the menu, right?

The hot dogs and buns were served steamed. I am glad the buns were not poppy seed since my diet restricts them. The dogs were Vienna brand dogs and the buns were fresh. Other than that it was a basic dog and nothing worthy of returning to the restaurant for. We will return to try their other menu items but unless you order your dog with a lot of doctoring up there isn’t anything special here. The fries however were fantastic. Served with the skins on and cooked perfectly. Those are almost worthy of a return trip. The food order was ready in the appropriate amount of time and the food quality was excellent. Price wise I would say they were high for this type of establishment.
The employee was extremely unfriendly as well as the owner. The person taking my order and serving it didn’t even talk to me. It made me feel kind of weird. I actually said thank you to her about three times before I even got a response.
When we arrived the place was empty other than us an one person. But by the time we left the place was packed and it was hard to make your way to the door. I don’t understand the attraction unless the location is convenient for some people
I will return again but keep in mind that the other reviews here on this place are way overstated.

Local hot dog spot with a pretty big menu… new owners in 2014. We had hot dogs and fries. The fries were awesome, the onions need to be diced smaller, and the pickle with pickle relish is different. The 3 TVs were all showing something different with audio on mute; a show, Bulls game, and Food network. I would have liked the Bulls game on all 3 TVs with audio on.

I came here for lunch a few weeks ago on a Saturday looking to try a new hot dog place.
And I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had 2 dogs with fries. They brought it out quickly and it was fresh. The fries were perfect fresh cut and crispy. I loved them. I am giving 4 stars for 2 reasons, the bun was a little soggier than I normally like and I always prefer it to be poppy seed. Other than those 2 things this place was worth it and I will definitely be back.

So why go here? The hot dogs are done perfectly. The fries are out of this world.
Why not to go here? Prices are as much or more than Portillos.
Overall, it’s a great place to grab a quick bite but be ready to pay for it.
