Best Mexican food I’ve ever had. Wonderful prices, great service, terrific food. Two people can eat for $ 20 and the food is beyond superb. I come here so often and I’m so happy every time! The smothered burritos are so good. 10⁄10 recommendation.

I give el palmar 4 stars for darn good crunchy tacos, rice and beans. Yes Americanized, but that’s what I am. Always hot, great people, great prices, great location. Makes my day to spoil me with El Palmar.

First I am from El Paso Texas so mex food is something I know a lot about! The chili Colorado is very good and beans have a good taste. I have tried several items and always good. Salsa is average but service is fast and very friendly.

Oh give me a beak Unilocalers! This is NOT a 4 star restaurant. Mediocre at best. Salsa is weak sauce. Ask for the nongringo version. It’s pretty good. Beans and rice are the best things on the plate. Skip it.

El Palmar is a great throwback place. It’s traditional Mexican food at fair prices. Sacramento has largely given in to the taco joints that have different names, but all have the same bland food. Since when does Mexican food need to be bland? El Palmar does everything well and it’s reliable. The neighborhood trusts this place and has for years.

I rarely write a negative review, but this place is horribly disgusting and unclean, completely out of the norm. We had been here on several occasions, for the top shelf margaritas and nachos. But tonight was like a scene out of a bad movie, there was something unclean in our food. When we spoke with management about it, they stated that their staff would never do that. We honestly only wanted to bring it to their attention, but were completely disregarded. So we will not be returning, despite having been patrons for the past couple of years. Good luck and keep a hefty supply of Immodium AD with you if you venture to this facility.
It only takes one negative experience to lose a customer for life.

I want to like this place, as it’s a convenient and popular neighborhood restaurant. The service is excellent, it’s family-​friendly, has easy parking, a lively atmosphere etc… but the food… just not that good. Very inconsistent.

The food is out of this world! This place is always packed on weekends and evenings! It’s family owned with pleasant service, and tasty margaritas. When you call in for an order you have to speak clear and a little loud because of the background noise. Other then that the food is soooooo good!!!

Over the last several years, after discovering this great place, my wife and I wrote reviews and introduced friends to this gem. All of our friends now love the place and continue the chain of bringing people here. What can I recommend everything — seriously we either eat here or order take out the average at least once a month. So between the 4 of us, we’ve tried everything. I do have favorites — the chicken chimichanga, basil chicken, Camarones al mojo de Aja, enchiladas verdes. I love their hot salsa served by request only.

Pretty good, but very standard/​average. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing? Waiter was friendly, and service was prompt. It looks like they have a ton of employees working at any given time. Prices seemed reasonable. Complimentary chips and salsa. But the enchilada plate with rice and beans was just OK. I would give them another shot and order something different next time.

Wonderful restaurant, great food, Burrito Grande was delicious, as was the enchiladas! Went there for dinner and returned the next day for lunch, sprite was good, nachos and sauce free to start are so good! Definitely would recommend! Plaza isn’t so nice but don’t worry inside is big and pretty nice!

Great tasting combination plates. Large portions that almost guarantee you will be taking some food home. Lunch and dinner prices are a bargain compared to other Mexican restaurants in the area.
Service was spot on, A really enjoyable dining experience and the food had the taste of authentic homemade Mexican cuisine.

Highly recommended! There was a small line when we went here and in less than 5 mins we already got our seat. They serve a basket of complimentary nacho chips and salsa. Salsa is sooooo delish!!!
We tried the combo — 2 entrée. Beef Burrito and Chicken Enchilada. I liked the beef burrito more, it’s tasty and the meat is tender. Chicken Enchilada is ok but it’s one of those that I will not order again. Never leave without trying the shrimp tacos. Superb! Again, it is SUPERB!!!
Amazing staff! We were assisted by 3 different servers. They will make sure that you get your drinks, nacho basket and salsa refilled right before you ask for it! AMAZING SERVICE!
