Shideler Dermatology Group

I’ve been a patient at Shideler on and off for the last 12 years. I recently went back due to some adult acne issues I have been having. I went in for a consultation with Kristy Simpson. She is knowledgeable, friendly, and helped create a plan of product and services that would help me. She took into account my diet (food allergies) and activity level and I got started on a gentle cleanser and lotion right away. About a week later I went back for a facial. Kristy did a great job! My skin immediately felt better and looked more radiant and within about 3 weeks my skin looked better than it had looked in at least 6 months. I am incredibly happy and will continue to visit Shideler and Kristy Simpson!

I was seeking a dermatologist for my out of control acne at the time, and my family and I picked Shideler because they were close to my house and within health insurance network. The first couple of years were certainly okay enough. My acne disappeared after their treatments (including antibiotics, creams, and laser/​light treatments).
However, service quickly went downhill once I went to college. My acne returned after about a year of not going to the dermatologist, and I went back. I don’t believe any of the staff was the same; I never saw a real dermatologist and was stuck with nurse practitioner each time. They started me on a new antibiotic and switched creams (differin to epiduo), saying this one might work better.
Soon enough, I called saying that I might be having an allergic reaction to the medicine, as I was becoming very itchy and splotchy with the medicine. I wasn’t able to get ahold of anyone so I left a message for the nurse practitioner. Never got a call back, and eventually the reaction got worse so I went to the Urgent Care.
After that, I called them AGAIN to talk to someone and nobody answered my calls AGAIN. The Urgent Care medicine didn’t work and I scheduled an appointment with my general practitioner because obviously I couldn’t get in with my derm. I didn’t know what else to do because I was getting welts on my body, and nothing was relieving me.
Finally, my mother was so angry at the poor service, she called them and started yelling she wanted to speak to one of the nurse practitioner, now not later. My mother eventually put me on the phone and the nurse started talking to me like I was stupid, asking questions like, «Well, you are having a reaction, have tried taking Benadryl? And I tried calling you several times, but you never returned my calls.»
You can imagine after such lovely service, I stopped going. I don’t know what happened, but the staff became rude and all they try to do is push their more expensive laser treatments instead of actually treating whatever is wrong. I would look elsewhere for a derm!

I haven’t done a Unilocal!review in years but I had to step in here because 2 stars on average for Shideler Dermatology Group is crazy. I’ve been going for years– at least 15 years. I’ve had laser hair removal (when it first started), laser treatments for broken capillaries, botox, a mole removed by Dr. Shideler. Mostly, I usually see the skin technicians and everything has always been great. They are on time with my appointments, tell me exactly what they are going to do before and during the process and are very professional and personable. Karen is who I’ve gone to the most and she’s the best. Andrea does the best botox. They even have a reward program. I live in Chicago and there are many, many places that offer these services but I wait until I’m visiting my hometown of Indy to go to Shideler Dermatology Group because that’s how great the people and services are.

I contacted this doctor (based upon word of mouth) to seek treatment for a wart on my foot. I had to go back multiple times and it still has not been removed. I received full charge bills for each and every follow up visit, in spite the fact that they were unsuccessful in treating me. When I attempted to contact the office to discuss the bill I received, I was sent to a private billing company. After talking to them, they couldn’t help me. So they suggested I contact the doctors office. I did so and they forwarded me back to the billing center. At that time I requested that they have someone in the doctors office contact me back to discuss this outrageous billing and 10 days later I just received a «Blow Off» letter that states all treatments and billings are within the guidelines of the medical guidelines of my insurance company… Shame that medical professionals complain on one hand that the insurance system is broken and take refuge in it when it suits their needs… sounds hypocritical to me. Either way, as I told them… It might be usual and customary in their office, but with other doctors I’ve seen that is not. In my past, when I’ve been provided a treatment (previous Dermatologist, Dentist, Podiatrist, Opthamologist and others) where the treatment was not successful, I was brought back for a follow-​up at no charge. I will not be going back.

I came in to get a 60 minute facial at the skin care center. I was running late, bc of traffic and showed up 10 mins late. They called me back 15 after and the facial ended 5 mins early. Bringing us a total of a 40 minute facial, yet they still tried to charge me the full $ 90. When I brought this up to the admin lady, she looked at me like I was dumb. And only after saying a few times that it shouldn’t be full price, she went back to talk to someone. I ended up paying $ 80. Talked to my mom afterward and she said she had a similar experience and with a different esthetician. So this seems to be a center-​wide issue.
The reason I’m giving them two stars is because the face massage was great and very relaxing! However, I don’t recommend this place — you won’t get the time you pay for and the attention you expect.

I have been going to Shideler Skin Care for 10 years. This group was actually one of the first in the area to have the latest and greatest procedures in skin care. The estheticians are top notch and my experience has been wonderful. My skin looks absolutely fabulous. From the minute you walk into the Skin Care Center, you are treated like a Queen. The girls are professional and a fun group. They know all the latest procedures and best products for various skin types. I can’t say enough good things about the skin care group at Dr. Shideler’s. If you haven’t been there, you really need to try them instead of a local spa. Go where the professionals are!
As far as Dr. Shideler and his staff — another A++++ — I can always get in his office within a week or so and never have to wait. His staff, nurses and physician’s assistants are wonderful and all answer any questions I have. Beautiful CLEAN offices and no billing problems. My husband and I, along with our kids have been going to Dr. Shideler for 15 years or so and we highly recommend him.

Handy. Easy to make an appointment. A nurse practicioner if you can’t get into see the doctor. Professional staff. I experienced no billing problems. Have been here twice. Recommended.

I visited this dermatologist primarily because it is where my hubby and his daughter go. I don’t think I’ll be returning and am now on the lookout for a new dermatologist
The office is nice and the location is convenient to home, but I was not happy with the level of service. Admittedly, I am a bit spoiled by my primary doc and his staff who never make one feel rushed or silly for asking lots of questions. I definitely felt like a number at this office. In fact, most of my time was spent with the doctor’s assistant, with only a very brief encounter with the dermatologist. While most of my needs were fairly easy, I was completely blown away by the swiftness of the exam once the doc was in the room… especially the lightning-​speed scan for skin abnormalities of the pre-​cancerous type. With my fair complexion and active lifestyle, this is something that my old doc used to spend a little time on.
Some of my questions were also brushed off with a brusque «You can talk to _​_​_​_​_​ (the assistant) about all those things, now is there anything else you need?» Me: «Uh, no, uh… thanks.»

This is a good dermatology group, but not the best. The office is new and clean. If your looking for a personal experience and dedicated time, then look somewhere else. They are educated and will take care of your dermatology needs though.
