Serendipity led us to this delightful restaurant. The pesto and delicious bread were brought to the table quickly; the staff was attentive and friendly; the Margherita Pizza was lovely and perfect. We were on a 3-day tour with a SoCal company, and this was one of the highlights of our trip to Monterey!

Everything we ate was delicious. Hamburger was amazing. I had the special chicken Marsala and the sauce was perfectly delicious. Greek salad was great also. The dipping sauce they bring with the bread was so tasty we had to ask for more. The server Biano makes you feel like you are in Italy. Cute back patio. Great wine and service. I will be coming back here next time I’m in Carmel.

Just arrived in Monterey a couple nights ago, My friends and I wanted to check out the local shops and restaurants and found Nico restaurant to be a real gem. I got gnocchi but asked for bolognese sauce which was delicious. My friends got linguini w/clams and grilled rib eye, which they loved. We shared a caprese salad and grilled mushrooms for appetizers. The ambience was casual and relaxing, not too high end. Waiters were warm and very friendly. I feel like they were genuinely interested in the quality of their customers’ experience there. We even got some tiramisu on the house! Score! Highly recommend!

What a great dinner we had last night! I had tomato soup which was the best I have ever had, and my friends had salads which were absolutely fab. We all had pasta for our main courses and it was obviously fresh and the sauces home made. The best Italian food this side of Rome and certainly the absolute best in Carmel. Service was outstanding!

The food was good, but the service wasn’t the best. The wine was amazing! But again, the service was slow.

We came in toward closing one Friday night and were greeted warmly. Our table was the last along the wall with a built-in bench and floor to ceiling wine rack. I had the tagliatelle for dinner. The sauce was more chunky than liquid(no issue, just different than others I’ve had). It was very good and full of flavor. You could tell it was made with quality ingredients and took time to get just right. The pasta was cooked perfectly as well. I really enjoyed my meal here. The best part is that they bring a giant bowl of Parmesan to sprinkle over your pasta. Being a Parmesan fiend, I took them up on several spoonfuls to compliment my pasta. Service was very friendly, genuine and never rushed us. I will definitely come back to Nico.

Not bad place, great service food was great, me and my sister happened to end up here after the poring rain started coming down and we ended up taking cover under there spot off the sidewalk. It was about lunch time and we decided to give it a try, best decision ever.

Stumbled upon this restaurant while looking for a place to eat on a Sunday night. It has a cozy and welcoming feel and great food options. The owner, Nico, stopped by our table to see how everything was. We got to chatting and he ended up making us a gnocchi dish himself that wasn’t even on the menu, for no charge! Amazing service, delicious food, and cozy atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back next time I’m in Carmel!

The food and staff are amazing. After trying to get a table at a few of the other popular places in downtown Carmel and being told it would be a 3 – 4 hour wait, we found Nico’s. The staff was very welcoming upon entering. Every dish that we ordered was delicious(spaghetti carbonara, crab ravioli, margherita pizza, and penne pasta). For those chocolate lovers out there, their chocolate tort was divine and their tiramisu was perfection. My family and I like visiting Carmel once a year as a family vacation and Nico’s will now be our go to place.

There’s a reason this place can’t soar above the mediocre: they are mediocre. First of, they’re all over the place. Running and rushing all the time like in no other restaurant I can remember, yet orders are categorically delayed. And Biagio, the waiter! Ma che fai Biagio?! Dovresti stare un po’ più zitto e lavorare un po’ di più! Ti hai mai chiesto se ai clienti gli piacciono le tue buffonate?! Non c’hai bisogno da gridare tutto il tempo! And then you taste the food and it’s not good. It’s pasta! How hard can it be? I called the very nice waitress over and had to ask for salt. But I couldn’t come to finish my pesto pasta. My tastebuds were fighting me fiercely. Sorry Nico! The problem is your food, even past all the nonsense of your staff.

FABULOUS little restaurant in downtown Carmel! The staff was so kind and accommodating for my 75lb 7 month old puppy, seating us conveniently outdoors in a corner, then bringing him his own little water bowl and puppy cookies. It’s that kind of touch that sets a restaurant apart, in the best of ways. The service was spectacular for the humans, too. Prompt and courteous, very thorough when explaining specials and specialties of the house. From the sundried-tomato bread spread(savory, flavorful, rich, delicious) I was impressed. The home made gnocci(all pastas made fresh in house!) which our waitress generously allowed me to try mezzo a mezzo, in two sauces, was some of the best I’ve ever had, as was the spagetti carbonara I tried from my husband’s plate. I will definitely be returning to this delicious little gem of a restaurant on my next stop in Carmel.

I am not sure how long the current crew has been operating here but this place rocks! The freshness of the food was superb, the wait staff fun and helpful, and this was as good as any of the many«fancy» restaurants we have eaten at in Carmel. Ask for Biagio! He is one enthusiastic and helpful guy. Seriously, this is a fine experience! So good we are there two nights in a row.

Good food, better ambience, and great service! We came here to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Our order included a bottle of wine, caprece, and gnocchi. The gnocch and caprece(and bread) was great! The wine was a little pricey, I thought. Overall, great place to plan a special dinner!

Super classy place. Cook sleeping on the back wall bench. Pizza was pretty bad, like worse than a microwaveable pizza. Salad was meh, but the wine was alright. Server went way out of his way by setting a plate of melted tiramisu in front of wifey, so that makes it all better.

After visiting a winery around the corner, and on our way to the cheese shop for some samples… The husband and I realized we were getting hangry hungry and needed a meal ASAP. I began consulting Unilocal, but with the no addresses in Carmel situation… I wasn’t able to find anywhere right away! Thankfully as we walked past this block there was a super friendly guy out front who told us to come try his restaurant. I replied«but I need a gluten free option, sorry», and he said«we have gluten free pasta!». The husband and dogs decided they could walk no further, so we sat on the patio. Such friendly service from the servers to the bussers! No bread for me, but I was told by my companion that it was fresh and delicious with a dip with anchovies in it. We shared the steamed clams, Greek salad, and gluten free pasta with shrimp, clams, mussels and scallops. Pair that with an Italian beer and a refreshing glass of Pinot Grigio, and we were 2 satisfied customers.

Overall this restaurant is pretty darn good. I gave it a four out of five stars but we will definitely be back. The atmosphere is nice, well-maintained, clean and well inviting. The prices are a little high for the portions for my liking. You’re not gonna find a bottle of wine for less than $ 40. Single glasses are at least 10. No hard alcohol available here, only beer and wine. I had the seafood pasta which was great in terms of portion size. My wife had the Pollo Castroville which was good as well besides the wild rice. The service was phenomenal, but expect to pay over $ 100 for a meal for two here.
