My husband and I are Chinese. Discovered this restaurant after we tried almost all Chinese restaurants in Indy and Carmel. This is a good one considering the food quality, quantity and price. We will definitely go back!

I was really excited to discover a new(for me) Chinese restaurant in Carmel, especially since our normal spot was closed when we were craving it. I was encouraged by the generally positive reviews on Unilocal and the reasonable pricing. I was, however, discouraged by the dirty look of the restaurant itself, and the difficulty I had ordering over the phone. The food was unfortunately disappointing as well. The sauce was thicker and sweeter than I like and the fried rice was bland and mushy. As one reviewer pointed out, the egg rolls were good, but nothing special and wouldn’t warrant a return visit. Overall, there are a lot of different Chinese places on the north side, China Express will not be added to my list of go-to places.

Oh boy… I hate to do this, but… The last experience was pretty bad and I am positive i won’t be going there again. I noticed all of their food tastes the same, no matter what you order and has this gooey sticky sauce that overwhelms everything. Then… I ordered hot and sour soup and it was AWFUL! I had one spoonful and dumped the rest in the sink. It tasted like hot chili oil. It was unbearably oily and just gross. Really… Sorry guys. I was excited the first time, second time was blah, and the third inedible. It’s a family business and people are nice, but I am just being honest

This place is not like other Chinese places. Of course, the menu is similar but the chicken they use for their chicken fried rice isn’t like that greasy disgusting blob of meat that is usually in chicken fried rice at most Chinese restaurants. It’s actually good!!! They have unique sweet and sour sauce and my husband is always talking about their General Tso. And when I tell them to make it spicy, they make it spicy! The people there are really nice, too.

This is the best cheap Chinese restaurant I’ve ever been to. I don’t know what they put in their food, but everything I’ve ever gotten there has been fantastic. The décor is funky, but I think it’s kind of kitschy cute. The place is clearly owned by one family, and though it has that hole-in-the-wall vibe, the food is excellent.

Some of the food may be just ok. But the egg rolls… the egg rolls are the best in the state. Hands down, no contest, the best! Did I mention the homemade sauces for the egg rolls? The mustard will bring tears to my eyes, although part of that may be the heat, so good.

This place is filthy. We walked in & were the only ones in the restaurant. The cook never heard us enter. We stood at the counter and watched him eating directly out of the food that he was cooking & portioning off for the upcoming dinner time like it was his own personal plate. The rest of the place looked like its never been cleaned. We walked out & will NEVER go there again!

It was cheap enough and the portions were big but really not very good. I got the general tso chicken. It was kind of soggy. The vegetables in it were the best part. I probably will not go back.

Give this place some love. Aka: Two Men and A Wok. They keep the overhead low and keep it real. Order something other than General Tso’s chicken and fried rice people! Good food, good prices. I wish there were more places like this. I hate paying for the chain restaurant advertising. Ok. Now go eat some food at China Express. Food 4 Value 5 Service 3 Atmosphere 3

This is the best Chinese around without the big price. Try anything and it will be a winner…

This is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant! Best food that makes me miss home and a very friendly staff that have my usual order memorized. This is easily a once a week choice for me!

I agree with Chuck C. And I like this place better than the Number One China Buffet down the street. This is not a cookie-cutter joint like most other Chinese walk-ups. No back-lit menu pictures. Not a standardized menu. They made their own menu. Décor is a little weird, but okay. It’s the same décor, and close to the same layout, as China Express at 5645 N Post Rd, in Indianapolis.
At some point it must have been the same owner, or the same family. However, here(in Carmel) they make the food to order. The food at the one on Post Road was served out of a pot that was made earlier. This is made to order, like most walk-up places. Not worth going out of your way for, but if you want the standard Americanized Chinese menu items, eat in or to go, this place fills the bill if you’re in the area. They offer various low-carb(ie, no rice) combos. You might not see it from the street, so look for Dooley O’Toole’s, and it is right next door in the same building, facing East.

What a deal!!! Great food at a great price!!! Made fresh as you order and piled high on the plate! This place is a real gem and maybe you shouldn’t go and try the food! Maybe I should just skip this review and keep it to myself! But then I would be keeping everyone from finding out for youself how good this place real is. Go Try and enjoy fresh, tasty, and at a reasonable price for a change! Remember to eat well and to live well, and no chains please!
