I really like this shop. They have a great assortment of various colored tapers, and some unusual colors as well. The woman that works there is very friendly as well.

was there over the holidays and found a bit too much price fixing going on from the owner. Certainly don’t mind paying a bit more for the Carmel experience, but to gouge tourists during the holidays isn’t worthy of the season! Plenty of lovely candles in other shops in Carmel… did my spending(plenty of it) outside of this shop, and am certain not to make a return visit.

Me & my girlfriend just recently spent a few days in Carmel at the lovely Cypress Inn over New Years. Unfortunately we also had the displeasure of walking into Candlesticks of Carmel just down the road off of Ocean Avenue. I see from other a few other reviews, that they have enjoyed some very nice comments in the past, although this seems to go back as far as Nov. 2013. It seems that things have taken a turn for the worse in recent times. We had returned to the shop after spotting a particular Mermaid mirror the day before, for a potential birthday present for my sister. The price on the mirror in question on the wall was labeled 168.00. I then asked to see if they had another one that was boxed up for me to take back home. The very friendly sales girl named Samantha, went into their back store room to retrieve the mirror I had requested. Upon bringing it out, I asked to see it physically just in case there was a problem & low & behold, the same exact mirror had a $ 120 price label on the bottom of the mirror, After noticing this, I said that I’d prefer the $ 120 price point as opposed to the one on the wall that was priced out at $ 168. After calling the owner named Laura, she informed me that she couldn’t do that & could only sell me the one on the wall for $ 168. Since common sense dictated that I shouldn’t have to pay $ 48 more for the exact same item, I then asked to speak with the owner or manger, whoever was available. Samantha then proceeded to call the owner back After trying to talk some common sense to her over of this rather straightforward situation, it only ended up to be an exercise in futility with Laura informing me that she couldn’t possibly sell me the mirror for $ 120 even though it was clearly marked as such & that this had never happened before & that she was a nice person… After shaking my head & spending several more minutes attempting to point out their obvious mistake, she still refused to sell me the mirror for $ 120 regardless of the label which was clearly marked as such. I informed her that this was very bad business tactics & we walked out of the shop empty handed. What a way to run a business!!! Gives new meaning to «MIrror Mirror on the Wall» for sure! !!! Buyer be Aware !!!

An amazing candle shop, full of exquisite wares infinitely better than anything on the mass market, just like ALL the shops of Carmel! The amazing scents plow you, of course, as you walk in the door, and the shop owner does helpfully point out the little bowls of coffee beans scattered about to help relieve the scent saturations so you can appreciate each candle. Candles in one hand and coffee in the other, and you are armed for shopping! Like many shops, they also featured Halloween displays in late September and no doubt continue this trend for all holidays, so you’ll never see the same store twice! All types of candles as well — votives, tapers, standard block candles for arrangements, and many types of holders. Scented, unscented, glittery, melty, round, hexagonal — if you can dream it up, they probably have it here.

Lovely seashell candles and they last forever. My friends loved them. Also, the beeswax candles are a great quality.

While I was looking for a particular store and when I stopped at the corner I saw the sign to this store, with stairs leading down to the door. Soon I felt like Alice, who fell down the rabbit hole. I’m not a big candle buyer, but recently bought a tea light holder so I started with tea lights. Everything smelt so good! Jim, one of the owners, was there and he showed me his favorite scents.(He orders them so he likes all of them) He showed me the high end and not-so-high end candles, shared information about candles and interesting people that have been at his shop. I bought a gift for a friend and some tea lights. I lit them as soon as I got home and am completely pleased. The only downside is that it is not wheelchair accessible.

One of my favorite candle shops of ALLTIME. Mainly because it’s not a chain and it’s absolutely adorable AND it’s in CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA! It’s situated on the corner of the block, and easily missable if you’re not closer to ground level.(Hard for me to miss cz I’m so short. HA!) But if you miss the sign and door that is accessible through stairs that lead down, you won’t miss the SMELL. Oh-em-gee-heavenly smells. Now, like a bird that’s attracted to shiny things, I’m attracted to things that smell nice.(I guess I’m attracted shiny things too, though…) So I always have to go in every time I’m there. They have a variety of candles and the owners are always super friendly. Of course, candles are always expensive, and I think these prices are just about the same as you’d get in like Illuminations or something. I think the brand they sell is Illume, which I LOVE. Smells so good, and they actually make your room smell good too. I hate candles that smell good when you put them to your nose, but don’t actually permeate the room when you light them. But yea… check out this place if you’re ever in Carmel-by-the-sea, which is super cute!

Very cool candle store on Ocean Ave. in the heart of Carmel. We really just happened along the store not really looking to pick up candles. But it had a cool entrance that you step down maybe 10 steps to get to the front door. Many candles to see and it smelled soooo good inside. But the beauty of this place in my opinion is the owner, Jim. He struck a conversation with us, and was super helpful giving us the low down on the area. So friendly and genuine. If you’re looking for a great gift or something to take home to brighten up your place, definitely stop by this shop! Nothing like good atmosphere, product and people to brighten your day.

I was walking down along Ocean Ave to the beach when I smelled it. The alluring scent of candles. I stopped in my tracks and looked around. None of the shops looked like candleshops though. I poked my head in a few stores, trying to track down the fragrance to no avail. I continued walking down the street a few more stores when I noticed that the scent peaked and then started to go away. I glanced around again and noticed a small staircase down into a doorway. I followed the passageway in and was greeted by a whole spectrum of seductive and alluring fragrances. After sniffing every candle in the shop, I settled on two lovely candles, one of which is burning this very minute. It’s absolutely divine. Only downside is it was a bit pricey… but it’s Carmel, whaddya expect. I’m willing to pay the premium for good merchandise.
