Great store, prices and product line. Big disappointment is they close without notice. I called and asked for the hours, they told me 10 – 5, I got there just before 12 and they said«sorry, but I am closed for an hour» so much for the 2 hour drive to get there. Wish they would have informed me that they close in between the hours of 10 – 5 :(

The fabric collection is unbelievably high quality and reasonably priced. They have the nicest dress shirt cotton I’ve seen outside of Britex in SF and a much bigger selection. Huge selection of silk too, most of it is tie pattern material and would make great vests. Fabric is sold by weight — $ 8 plus. They also sell grab bag cotton scraps for $ 25. I bought one and there were good sized 1 – 2 yds @ 60″ wide pieces and 12+ yds total. Cheaper than good muslin and fantastic quality. Love this place!!!

I must ‘fess up: this store has been my secret resource for historical costumes for many years. The fabrics are«mill ends» from their wonderful ties and garments that retail at places like Nordstrom. Pure cottons, lightweight silks, and exquisite silk brocades in narrow widths: If you know historical fabrics, you’ll find many that are appropriate for 18th, 19th, or 20th century styles, at very low prices for the quality. In addition to fabrics, the store has grab bags of small pieces that are great for fabric artists or quilters. They have a good selection of men’s classic day and evening wear, including shirts, vests, and ties that work for late 19th or early 20th C. And it’s in lovely Carmel Valley Village. Worth a detour if you are near the Monterey Peninsula.

There are just better clothes out there. For a semi-luxury brand to have items made in China and that fall apart after several weeks, it is worth finding other brands. The fabrics are also very dated, especially the ties.

Robert Talbott added a outlet store in Gilroy(by Clairborne). This store does not have the«Estate» shirts like Carmel Valley’s. The tie selection is smaller, but just as good. When I bought a seven fold tie recently, I was even given a 7 fold tie box which is sooooo impressive(yes, the box) — its like an antique wooden box with a navy lacquer finish.

So, I wanted this really cool tie at Norstroms. It was a Robert Talbott, with a bright blue and gold paisley pattern, with metallic highlights. But at $ 225 I though they were on crack! Well, I went to a wedding the next day at Holly Farms and Poochie M and I decided to go wine tasting. While tasting in Carmel Valley, the pourer comments on my tie(I was wearing The Scream) and she says If I like cool ties there ‘s a Talbott outlet store right behind us. I go in and find the tie I was coveting at Norstroms for $ 45. Then I bought 3 shirts for the price of one I looked at the previous day. If you like top quality for a super afforadable price this is the place.

This is the finest clothing store I have ever been in. Each item is special. The ties are all hand sewn and beautiful. You will never find better quality. An American made item, in a small town like Carmel. Its outstanding. The service, real customer service. Worth every dollar! Ben Rush

I have to say I read the review below and was really impressed. I wanted to make this my first review because this is where I learned to tie my first bow tie. Tom Anderson was the first associate to greet me, assist me with my purchase, and teach me the bow tie. If you are like me, and are looking for something rare, high quality, but affordable, chances are your still looking. One of my favorite dress shirt brands is Café Cotton in San Francisco.(see the review they have listed.) If you like brands similar to this I recommend this shop. My style is very classic when it comes to dress wear. Very rarely will you see a suit, or a dress shirt that will go out of style in my closet. I buy for the long term, and make sure that each item I buy can be a staple design for future occasions. I too was afraid to give this review as I hope to preserve the secretive nature of this shop. But I thought about it and in order to keep a good business thriving, people have to know about it. The store has to sell in order to stay profitable right?
