China Wok is exactly what you want when it’s late o’clock and you need something cheap, fast, and fried. Like all Chinese take-out places, it starts out cheap if you order simple, but the more and more things that you pile on, the more you spend. It’s dangerous to order when starving. Most recently, they ended up at the wrong address. Instead of the dorm address that I gave, they ended up somehow at a house across town. It was definitely slower going than usual, but the driver was super nice about the whole thing, and even poked fun at himself by saying«Yeah, I’m here. I mean it this time, I have food and everything» and that made me smile. Their crab rangoon($ 4.50) is pretty good. They come eight to an order, and are smaller pieces. There’s not very much crab flavor(imitation crab or otherwise), but nonetheless they’re pretty tasty. The egg rolls($ 1.30 a piece) are also pretty good but a bit small for the price. For an entrée, I usually get the Sweet and Sour Delight($ 9.50). It’s only available in one size, and is a combination of pork, chicken, and shrimp. This is pretty good too, but the sweet and sour sauce is terrible. I appreciate that they bag it separate. There’s absolutely no chunks in the sauce– no pineapple, no pepper, nothing. It looks like red syrup. And it doesn’t really taste like anything. It’s like sprinkling magic red sauce on your meat to placebo the taste of sweet and sour. The chicken and pork is always well cooked, but the shrimps are so small. I expected bigger shrimp when getting them in an entrée like this. The House Special fried rice($ 7.95– Qt.) is okay too. It was under done. The pork still had cold fat on it, and the shrimp were a bit mush. Plus, the rice itself was anemic looking. The egg drop soup($ 1.50) has always been great in the past, but most recently it just tasted like egg water. This place is inconsistent, and therein lies the problem. Sometimes, this food is the best late night decision ever. Sometimes, stuff is over or undercooked and slow. It’s a mixed bag. All in all, it’s a pretty decent place fit for a college budget. I’m sure I’ll order again at some point.

When I first moved to Carbondale several years ago, this was my go-to for Chinese. While they do make the best chicken wings of the Chinese restaurants, I have watched the quality of the rest of their menu deteriorate. The last half a dozen or so times ordering from them have been some of the worst take away/delivery experiences I’ve ever had. Today marks my last time ever ordering from them. I highly recommend China Express instead, New Kahala if it’s Sunday.

Best Chinese Take-Out in Carbondale. The General Tso’s is great as are the egg rolls and fried rice. The service is very fast, and the workers are nice.

This was the first time I had ordered from China Wok. I ordered Mongolian Beef and Sweet and Sour Chicken and Crab Rangoon. CRABRANGOON: pretty good, 3 out of 5 stars but hardly any crab only cream cheese SWEETANDSOURCHICKEN: 3 out of 5. Chicken was good although it looks like lightly fried golden mice. The sauce was separate from chicken but the whole thing tasted like a sweet funnel cake with red sauce neither sweet or sour MONGOLIANBEEF: 1 of out 5, if you want to order lots of fried onions and next to no pieces beef this is your dish! VERYUNSATISFIED! I will not come back and prefer to not spend $ 23 on sub par food.

I don’t even write reviews but I specifically created an account just to say how EXPENSIVE and DISAPPOINTING this place was… I ordered sweet and sour chicken and crab rangoon. First of all they did not properly seal the containers of sweat & sour sauce. The sloppy sauce spilled everywhere. The food was bland. They did not put the sweet & sauce ON my chicken. The chicken looked like strange nuggets and they were also bland. Not to mention the rice was dry. The food was ridiculously expensive to be this nasty. I should’ve followed my first mind & gone to Primo’s. I basically just paid $ 15 for a bag of crab rangoon bc that’s the only edible food in my bag.

I have lived in C-Dale for over 10 years. China Wok is the best(other than Hunan) Chinese food in the area. Great portions and consistent. Highly recommend.

I am from the East Coast, which goes to show my obsession with Chinese food. I’ve lived in Illinois for almost 7 years now and out of all the Chinese food places I have tried this one is the absolute BEST!!! Every time I go down to carbondale I have to grab myself a bite because I don’t eat Chinese food anywhere because for some reason Illinois does not know how to make some good Chinese! China wok is the way to go.

This place is a hit or miss. Their lo mein and mei fun is pretty good. They have friend scallops which are really good. everything else though is either okay or not that good at all. Basically if you have to order from here I suggest a noodle dish.

Probably a better alternative than New Kahala. Delivery took about twenty minutes which is less than half the time of the other place. I had lo mein, potstickers, and fried rice. The lo mein and potstickers were good enough but the fried rice was absolutely terrible. It was also slightly more expensive. But, since you can’t even get potstickers after 8pm at New Kahala, I have to call it an improvement.

I used to order from here all the time. The last time I ordered(as always) I listed«no peppers — allergy». Well after 3 bites my throat started closing up and once I was in the hospital and stabilized, my co-worker let me know that she found 3 pieces of bell pepper at the bottom of my rice, chicken and veggies dish. I should send my hospital to them so they can pay it but instead I am letting others with allergies know to watch out when ordering from this business.

Cheap food, fast delivery and friendly service. What more could a poor student ask for? Would I eat here if it wasn’t for the situation… naaaah. Does it beat making Ramen noodles? You betcha! The food is descent, nothing spectacular. The pork balls are amazing when smeared with the glowing radioactive goop they give you(see pictures). The only thing I wouldn’t ever order again is the egg drop soup. Pepper-overload! Other than that if you want cheap and descent order now!

I love the lo mein here. Thicker noodles than the regular egg noodles you get everywhere else. The consistency and texture of the noodles are always perfect. I can scarf down a whole large container by myself. I’ve tried the fried rice, hot and sour soup, and chicken with black bean sauce. Everything was good, not overly fantastic, but it will get the job done. This place is the best alternative for cheap Chinese food if you are not willing to spend too much on food at Hunan. They deliver and most of the time, it’s pretty quick except they do charge a small fee for it, but it’s good on cold nights when you don’t want to leave the house. Price are so reasonable. About $ 20 will give you about two meals for a couple.
