Mr. Toots is one of the best coffee houses of all time. No, really, they are the greatest. I’ve been going there for about three years now, but my husband tells me stories about Mr. Toots from over 10 years ago. All good stories. Their coffee drinks are always perfect. I’ve never had a bad drink there. Baked goods are also always yummy. The staff are always so so nice. It’s always just a joy to go in, get a good coffee, engage with nice people, and spend some time scanning the water for dolphins in the morning. Their little patio is so nice, and even if it’s full, the inside is cozy and homey and always comfortable. Writing this is making me crave a cinnamon latte. :) See you soon, Mr. Toots!

I’ll start off by saying that normally I love coming to Mr Toots because of the comfortable seating & yummy drinks, however, today my experience was bad enough that I felt I needed to write this review. The server(girl with long brown hair who I always see behind the counter) was so rude to my partner and I that we actually felt uncomfortable & unwelcome finishing our drinks in the coffee house. She misheard our order and made us an extra cup of tea and then proceeded to literally yell at us that we should have listened more closely to her. I have never been yelled at for such a trivial misunderstanding by a server before. Hopefully she was just having a bad day, but I’m sad to say we will have to find a new favorite coffee spot in Capitola.

Amazing cold brew! Excellent soy latte and prompt, personal service. Intimate and charming environment with plenty of natural light. Great views of the city and beach.

The drinks are alright. I ordered a Mona Lisa. The whipped cream is really good but the drink is alright. However the view is amazing and the ambience is really nice. I didn’t used their wifi not sure how fast it is. But just sitting at this café and looking outside is worth to come here.

It got a bit chilly in the evening so my boyfriend and I went in search of a hot chocolate and found this coffee house(which is right above Margaritaville). It’s a good size shop, with plenty of seating. They have a small balcony overlooking the water, which was nice. If I lived closer, I’d definitely come here to get some work done. When we got here, there was someone playing the piano(it was lovely, btw). I can’t speak for the coffee here, but I had a darn good hot chocolate! The barista(who was a really cool guy and very chill) offered whipped cream. I immediately said no, b/c I’m just not a fan. Then he asked if I’d be convinced to try it knowing it was homemade. So I said yes, and I am sure glad I tried it. I usually hate whip cream, but I loved this one! I guess I should say, I hate store-bought whip cream. Cool atmosphere and a must stop if you are in the area!

Cant say enough good things about Toots. Wonderful views, luv piano from time to time, and fantastic coffee and chai. The chai is spicy and warming, just the way it should be. Been coming here for close to 15 years and will always keep coming back.

Mr. Toot’s coffee is among the row of shops lining Capitola beach. Meaning you can park and visit a bunch of fun shops then hit up the beach after! We walked up the stairs to the shop and the interior was homey and warm with big windows and cozy seats next to the piano, bookshelf, and overlooking Capitola downtown. There’s a small balcony(enough room for about 5 – 6 people) that has a great view of the beach. The only downside was that there’s a table inside next to the door and the woman sitting there was extremely annoyed at us walking in and out-there were many other tables, so if she didn’t want to deal with people walking through the door then she should have sit elsewhere! Other than that one annoying aspect, everything here was great. The barista helping us was awesome! In addition to their drinks, they also serve some pastries, bagels, and I even saw some tofu breakfast burritos. We ended up ordering a chai latte, mocha chai iced, and Tom Sawyer(steamed soy latte with vanilla). The chai they use is on the spicier side, not the sweet creamy side. So depending on preference this could be a hit a miss. The iced mocha chai thought was great! I also enjoyed my soy vanilla latte, creamy and caffeinated! After we finished our drinks and walked around the shops/beach, we ended up stopping by here one more time before leaving Santa Cruz. We tried the spiced cider, Ginger peach black tea(hot), and another iced mocha chai because that’s how much my friend loved her drink. Spiced cider is always so comforting when it’s cold! If you’ve never had it, just imagine apple juice warmed up(I swear it tastes a little more magical than it sounds). My ginger peach was also good, more floral than gingery, and I’d suggest asking for them to put a little ice in it since it comes out burning hot!

There are two tables outside with a beautiful view of the«lake» and ocean. I come here every trip with a book and buy a tea and a baked good. It’s incredibly relaxing and always very kind people working here. I only wish there were more outdoor seats. If you’re in Capitola and need to sit back and relax make sure you stop by.

Cute little coffee shop with just the right selection of pastries and noshable goodies to go right along with their coffee and tea concoctions. The service is great and the free wifi is fast. Their bathrooms are clean and if you get there before the crowd, there are two small tables on the patio so you can get a nice view of the pier and beach. I like the patio because it’s sheltered enough from the wind so that the breeze is just barely there.

All I got was the hot chocolate but it gets solid five stars. It was rich and creamy, made with some delicious kind of chocolate, and thick home-made mildly sweetened whipped cream… only on HALF? Genious. You can sip the hot chocolate right away without mining through the whipped cream.

Find yourself committed to your sister in law’ s wedding on a workday Friday and you’ve been placed into a quaint, nearby cottage in Capitola that features cable but does not provide WiFi?, no worries, Mr Toots Coffeehouse is just a walk away and comes equipt with early morning solutions. Jason, pride of Jersey City, New Jersey, quickly concocted me a decaf café americano, unwrapped me a blueberry muffin, rife with blueberries and then quickly switched gears in IT Help Desk mode to get me an internet connection that I could use while watching 12 foot swells from the patio. One by one my family members came marching in and I soon felt like a townie in a town in which I do not live. 5 out 5 toots from this passanger just passing through the memories of great times.

My friend told me he likes the place because it has a piano to play. Kind of cool. I like the small outdoor patio that overlooks the bay Comfortable inside too. Quiet which i love. In comparison to what else is around, its surely the most relaxed morning spot for your grubbing and caffeine needs, second to probably the breakfast place on the wharf. The food options are limited here but not bad. But again I’m not a regular. Overall, a pleasant loft style coffee spot, tucked away above the runoff swamp Good coffee stops are a must in this town :)

I really liked my experience here! I ordered the single Honey Lavender latte with a slice of berry pie and it came with a dollop of delicious whipped cream. The honey lavender sounds like a weird combination but it was amazing and just the right amount of sweet. Hubby ordered a triple shot of espresso which was tasty and fresh. The service was excellent, my barista was so friendly and did a great job making me feel welcomed. I would come back here in a heartbeat. The environment is nice and breezy with a two table patio that overlooks Capitola Wharf. Come early if you’re looking for a cute date that has a view. The previous reviews that explained that this coffee shop requires you to climb up stairs were very helpful as well. Only downside is street parking if you aren’t a morning person and don’t like to parallel park!

My very first espresso drink. It happened right here. I was sixteen. My high school bestie suggested a café mocha. Her parents had recently bought a beach house in Aptos, only 15 minutes away. So she had found this place, & had already tried one. She was sure I would love it. She was right. The mocha became my signature espresso drink all through college. Back then, Mr. Toots served their lattes & mochas in these big glass goblets that had really thick stems. They were so great. We would saunter out to the balcony. We would sit & study the view. We would talk. I go to Mr. Toots whenever I’m in Capitola. And I do the same thing. The glass goblets are all gone. I asked about them and was told that people kept taking them, till finally there were none left. Sigh They still make their own whipped cream. And there’s live piano music at night. The crowd is blended w students, beachcombers, locals, & artists. Sit out on the balcony. There’s only room for 3 or 4 people. It’s the best seat in the house. 4 stars.

Decent coffee, great location over-looking Capitola Beach. However, I felt that their service could use some a little improvement. The people working there didn’t seem to have a good attitude like you see in typical coffee shops; it’s definitely not a place you want to wake up to with this kinda(lack thereof) service. However, given the limited selection of coffee shops in the area, it is still one of the better ones. I think this place has high potential to thrive.

Woke up our first day in Capitola & all the power was out in the downtown area — walked on the beach for about an hour & heard that the power was back on — Coffee Time!!! Found a little coffee shop on the 2nd floor called Mr Toots — what a great vegan find! Organic coffee, almond milk, soy milk and the best vegan peanut butter chocolate chip cookie ever. Their balcony is a great place to start your day in Capitola. Don’t pass up this spot & their wonderful staff.
