sad they closed=[ always a good go-to spot for a nice, southern-ish meal. i’ll miss the complimentary cornbread and their surprisingly yummy chicken strips. oh and OFCOURSE the pie. the service was always warm and welcoming and i came in so often they memorized my order… i’m sad to see them go=[

What a bomb this place is! I’ve been here before but I always get lukewarm food and colder service. My son walked in on a Saturday afternoon. The place was about 80 degrees. We asked the waiter to turn down the heat. He complied by turning the AC full blast. It was still better than the heat. The waiter seemed frazzled and nervous. Service was very bad. Why would a company like Marie Callendars put one waiter in a room full of customers? The poor guy was running ragged. I had to ask the hostess for more iced tea! The food was mediocre. I won’t rush back. Like any chain, it starts out good and just gets worse. Try Chili’s for consistently good food and service!

I’m pretty bummed. Ive had good meals there before with my boyfriend, but my most recent experience was horrible. Had a lame server, and I have never waited so long for mozzarella sticks and cheese burger when only literally 10 people were occupying the restaurant. Seriously. I counted. It took half an hour(was timing due to only having a half an hour lunch break). Our waiter never check on us with in that half an hour. I had to leave once my food arrived and had to ask for a to-go box from another waiter because ours was MIA. I love their pie but the service sucked.

Last time I went into here(last weekend with my mother)…we had a coupon… probably the only reason we went in. We dined in for lunch and the place smelled horrible. We were greeted when we walked in, which was nice. Our server, who I have had before(the last time I was there 4 yrs ago!) was alright. He was nice and pleasant, but seemed to be distracted. Running around looking busy when there was like one other table filled in the room. I love the cornbread there. Its probably the only reason why I considered coming back here. But i noticed this time, we did not get as much as usual. I mean, there were only two of us, but still a small 2 in by 1 in slice was enough for us to eat a sliver. Anyways… they were pretty prompt with the refill on our drinks. I was and continue to be disappointed that they removed the Ravioli dish off the menu, it was all I ever got there. I loved it. Their cheesy potato shop is actually really good too. But we got the burger combos instead.($ 8.99 burger, fries, & slice of pie). The burger was pretty good. The fries on the other hand… we got maybe 10 fries each. With the entire rest of the plate open with nothing. It was weird. I’m not saying I am this pig that needs to stuff my face, but i do love french fries and they shorted both of us! As for the pie, not too bad. I had german chocolate… great! and she had Kahlua cheese cake. pretty good too! So that made us forget about our lack of french fries. HAH. I guess this place is okay to go to if nothing else is around or you are craving some corn bread.

What can I say about this restaurant that I really liked… I went to have breakfast and was pleasantly surprised with the pancakes. I’m a big fan of pancakes they are my favorite, and they have really good pancakes that seem to come with every single meal on the menu. The breakfast also comes with a blueberry loaf that is very tasty, I would be in there for coffee and blueberry loaf if I had the time, did I mention it was free I wonder if I can order a coffee and just get free blueberry bread? The service was pretty pleasant but then again I’m not too demanding… I’m looking forward to going again.

I hate to admit but I use to work here back when I was 16. Maybe that’s why I don’t eat certain pies… hmmmm. Anyways my review of this place is on the Sunday Mimosa brunch. It’s cheap and good. Surprisingly they know how to make a satisfying breakfast. It’s a buffet that has pretty much anything you could want to eat in the morning. Try it, you probably won’t be disappointed. Key word: Probably.

One star, only because they had toilet paper in the bathroom! I have been to several Marie Callender’s in the past and never had bad food or bad service. In fact, years ago I worked at MC… it was my first job… and customer service it not what it used to be! I was out Christmas shopping with friends at the Capitola Mall, it was late and we were exhausted, we had two choices of restaurants to eat at that were close. Our deciding factor, we had two coupons to purchase one entrée and receive the second on free. Decision made! Upon our arrival to MC, we were greeted by three hostesses, requested a booth and told that there were no more booths available because the front room was closed… closed on a Saturday night at 8PM!?! The hostess led us to a middle room where the FOUR of us were sat a table with three chairs and two place settings. We waited a good 10 minute before our waitress acknowledged us, we ordered 2 waters, an apple juice and an Arnold Palmer… no wait… no Arnold Palmer because they were out of Lemonade… on a Saturday night at 8PM!!! We waited another 10 minutes to get our 3 waters, minus the juice, had to ask for it a second time and when it finally arrived the glass wasn’t even full. When the waitress was asked if the glass of apple juice was full, she responded with, «Yes, it has been refrigerated». Hellllooooo??? Not what we asked! My friend asked for cornbread, the only decent thing we ate, but it was served cold, so we had to send it back and request for it to be warmed up. We gave the waitress our coupons, ordered our meals and waited. While we were waiting the waitress realized that we had to order a minimum of 2 drinks in order to use the coupons, so we ordered 2 sodas and an ice tea. Which we never received! We also asked for more cornbread… again…never got it!!! I got the salad bar, which was awful. I expected a plethora of choices and the salad options were very limited… they didn’t even have onions or cucumbers! Needless to say the potato salad had a mayonnaise crust on it! And the coleslaw… ever seen Better off Dead??? Enough said. Apparently this MC doesn’t have the soup on the salad bar either, so the waitress brought me a cup of potato cheese soup that was warm, not hot, but warm, cold on the top and warm in the middle. Our waitress finally brings our check… by this time we just want the last hour and half of our lives back… my friend notices that we were charged for the 2 sodas and 1 ice tea that we never received. She questions this and the waitress responds with, «Oh, sorry, I will have to charged you for the 2 other entrees because you can only use the coupons if you ordered drinks», is she freaking kidding! Why are we, the customers being penalized for her failure to provide marginal service… I then proceed to tell her this is the worst dinning experience I have ever had in my whole life… her response…“sorry you feel that way, as soon as you were seated I got really busy… UHNOTMYPROBLEM… it should also be noted that during this entire miserable experience, the manager was seated in a booth next to us, chatting with his buddies and could hear everything that was going on! I asked to speak with the manger… explained everything that was noted above… his resolution… to take the drinks off of our bill! I then told him that if our server was sooooo busy and the only one working, he as the manager should have been helping her! He then advised that he would comp our entire bill… to this I said, thanks… he should of quit while he was ahead but nooooo… his last remark to me was…“BTW, I was on a break, but I guess that doesn’t matter”…WHAT, AREYOUKIDDINGME!!! I don’t give a crap if you are on your break… get me the hell out of this place!!!

The cornbread is like heaven, and it gets its own extra star– that’s why there’s 4 instead of 3. Otherwise, it’s a nice place with really friendly servers, okay food and good desserts. Not the best place, not bad either.

It isn’t the worst place to go, nor is it the best place… when you are out to eat with picky people in your life who have way too many rules about what they can and can’t eat, then this place usually satisfies them. The service has always been hit and miss, but the wait has never been too long. The salad bar here scares me though, it has never looked appealing. Of course if you are just in the mood for pie then how can you go wrong with this choice! But I have to say my new favorite here has to be the fried green bean appetizers! I could certainly have just those and a couple of glasses of wine and I would be quite content! Of course that would mean extra hours of pounding the pavement(running) to burn it off! But me thinks it would be worth it!

friendly staff, comfy and quiet atmosphere. can be cold in there so bring a sweater. The menu is not that big, a bit boring in my opinion, but sometimes my son likes to come here to get a hamburger and just go somewhere that is not totally over stimulating and chaotic. costs bit more than say a Chili’s restaurant.

DISCLAIMER: this review is lacking in much information about the actual restaurant and is solely based upon pie excursions So I was thinking about it yesterday and I would gladly give up sex for pie. No no, hear me out… well, actually that’s pretty much it. I don’t really have anything that justifies that statement at all but, well fuck it. I’ll let it stand. Maybe if I could still masturbate… ok Mark, review is getting out of hand. Anyway, about Marie Callender’s…let’s just say in terms of pie I miss the Baker Square days. I liked their pies a lot more. They seemed more like… well pie. Marie Callender’s fruit pies look like they bought a ready made crust and pored a bowl of fruit in it and then put it in the oven. I like my pies like grandma used to make: flaky, covered and filled with the best stuff on earth. But, since baker square is no more, Marie Callender’s fit’s the bill for my pie fix… unless anyone has a a better suggestion?

I was not impressed with the«Sunday Brunch» at this place. First of all, they were terrifically understaffed. Three parties had to wait about 10 minutes despite the fact that there were plenty of tables waiting empty. I don’t know if their servers are just unable to cope, or what. Second, the food was unremittingly average. The salad bar was OK(nothing like Fresh Choice) and then there were some uninspired breakfast choices: eggs benedict(soggy), Chicken Enchiladas(with dried out pieces of chicken like little pencil erasers) waffles and french toast(the syrup was the best part), an omelet station and some sliced ham. For desserts, there were two pies to choose from(the pie was indeed great), along with an unctuous bread pudding that I couldn’t stand to take more than a bite of, and some dried-out brownies. For all this, you pay the princely sum of $ 13.99 for an adult and $ 7.99 for a child over 3. Fresh Choice across the street is a much better value. If you must eat something at Marie Callender’s, stick with the pie.
