This 5 stars goes to Pat the shoe guy! He was so amazing when I recently went in looking for basketball shoes for my boyfriend. He always went the extra mile to look for all of the sizes and different shoes that I needed! And with such a positive attitude! Good job Pat, hope you read this!

I am very impressed with this store. Been going there since the beginning of the year. Recently I was looking for Size 11 2E NB shoes and they did not have them in stock. However, the manager, Anna and the person at the counter, Leora, did a great job taking care of problem. What they effectively did is to ensure the next shipment had the product (correct size and shoe) and took my contact information to be able to inform me when it arrived.
I always find the staff at this store very helpful, courteous and knowledgeable. Highly recommend them for your footwear requirements.

I love this store, in at least once a week. For a smaller (square footage) outdoor store they carry a lot of products and have great prices. Love all of the employees, managers are awesome. You can always find someone to help you.

Don’t shop here, it’s all cheap garbage.

I’m at Big 5 quite a bit and continue to be impressed with the way the Capitola store is run. The store is well stocked & well priced, the employees are helpful & friendly, and the manager is knowledgeable & personable.
Those are the reasons I keep going back.

Short and to the point here. I have been shopping here since it opened. Never had a problem. Recently I saw that the Avia shoes I wear to the gym were on clearance sale. I wanted as many as I could get. They did not have my size in stock. But Michael, the great customer service and person he is, got me four pairs from four different Big 5 stores. In a short time as well! This is just one of many great customers service I receive when I go to Big 5. Thanks to all the staff!

good store with good people who work there. id give you 5 stars but I really think you should open at 9am. I cant tell you how many times ive needed to get something before 10am.

This place has a wide variety sporting good items, pretty much the basics for all sports.

I purchased a pair of shoes here and was overcharged. When I brought in the newspaper ad and the box that clearly had the sale price on it, they refused to honor the sale price. They told me that the model I purchased was excluded in the sale even though the ad clearly stated ALL models. It was only a $ 5 difference. The sales manager Michael Poller refused to honor their ad and in turned lost a customer who regularly shopped there. The customer service at Big 5 is horrible and for a $ 5 difference, they have in turned lost much much more.

I stopped in here recently on my lunch break to pick up a new pair of tennis shoes. There were large signs all over the shoe area saying buy one pair of sale shoes, get a second pair half off. I didn’t really need two pairs of tennis shoes so I picked out a second pair of sale sandals to take advantage of this nice deal.
When I went to get in line there were already three people ahead of me and one harrassed looking sales person at the counter who was clearly out of his depth trying to do a return. After about five minutes he called another associate over for assistance.
When I finally got to the front the woman who rang me up did not give me the half off on my second pair of shoes. I asked her about it and she said she’d have to check with the manager. Then her phone rang, she answered it and proceeded to have a conversation with the person at the other end, ignorning me. When she finally hung up she didn’t check with anyone and said in a very rude tone, «Yeah, those are not part of the sale.»
I didn’t purchase the second pair of shoes.
I have been a long time customer of Big 5, but this will be my last trip in. Disorganized, crowded and with a downright rude staff … I won’t be back.
I’m going camping next month and need to purchase quite a bit of camping equipment — I’ll be taking my business to Outdoor World.

We asked a sales assistant if they had any wrestling shoes besides the ones in the wall (maybe on a table or in another area) and he said no. We then saw their ad and sure enough they had other wrestling shoes (which they had in the back). Sales assistant must have not reviewed their sales ad for the week.
I think they needed more cashiers when we were there. It was a little busy. The assistant manager was pretty helpful. Overall, I think this Big 5 is okay.

Not so many sports store options in good olé Santa Cruz/​Capitola. This place is kind of small for a Big 5 (ha ha oxymoron). This place has the basics if not alot of options so it gets the job done. Come here often for sports shoes for the kids, camping equipment and ping pong balls to throw at Guster concerts.

Large selection. Reasonable prices. Sometimes it can be hard to get attention from the staff (this is more because they tend to be understaffed, I think), but workers are friendly and helpful when you can get them. This might have more to do with when I’ve gone in than anything else.
Own parking lot means easy parking.

For starters, the customer service here is amazing. They are so helpful and so nice. The prices are so great, too. Their return policy: great. I went to Outdoor World down the block and found same item I just bought for about $ 70 more, along with not-​so-​nice employees.

Friendly people. The sleeping bags we wanted were on sale… Assistance was fast. Store was ‘clean’ althought they have stuff all over the aisles… lol.
Place was busy for a Saturday early morning! People must have been purchasing last minute items just like us!!!
