First time here and it was great! The service was wonderful! I suggest you ask for Rachel, she knows how to provide excellent service. The chili gravy was some of the best I’ve tasted. Extensive menu. Would love to come back and try breakfast.

This place was really great! Fast service and excellent food. I had the beef chalupa dinner with charro beans and rice. My wife has the steak quesadilla and loved it. We will be back!

This is a good neighborhood spot. Nothing fancy, but good food, super casual and the hand made tortillas are ah-mazing!

I don’t understand the bad reviews. I almost didn’t even try this place due to the reviews and from what I heard other locals say about the place. I would dare to call myself a connoisseur of Mexican food, and this place met my expectations. It wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but definitely worth a try. The service was good and friendly. I didn’t have to wait long. If I wanted fast food, I would go to a fast food restaurant. I’d rather wait for fresh food than be served quick stale fast food. Also, it is not out of the ordinary to find a potato in your Mexican food. That does not mean it was half eaten. Unless I found teeth marks in it, I would not make the assumption that it was half eaten. The chips and salsa were outstanding, as well as the tortillas. Enchiladas were very good, cheese tasted good, and the beans were delicious. Everything was hot and fresh. Nothing seemed to be microwaved.

The waitress was excellent. Super friendly and accommodating. The food was pretty good. I had the quesadillas and my husband had the tacos. We got queso for an appetizer. I would for sure come back.

I don’t understand why this establishment is getting poor reviews. Although I am a local, I rarely dine there, simply because of a busy schedule. However, each time I have the food has been wonderful. With exception … the grilled shrimp tasted like rubber. Hey its the hill country not the coast. Anyway, the tacos, enchiladas and tortilla soup are my favorites. Packed with flavor! Order the migas. for breakfast. ! The last month I have placed an order to go for the taquito, señora, platter and a large tortilla soup., each time I was more than happy. Packaged perfectly, friendly service and great quality. And they don’t even know I am local.

Dinner This Evening At Las Barcas 06÷25÷14 We just had dinner at Las Barcas. My husband has never been fond of it, but it is close and convenient. My order was wrong, the service wasn’t that great, and the wait was long; there were very few customers in the restaurant too, so no reasonable reason for the wait. When we left, my bill was unusually high! When I inquired about why the cost was so high, I was told we were charged over $ 4 per plate for those that requested Cueso instead of the normal chili sauce on top of the meal. That put my enchilada dinner at $ 13+ instead of the $ 8.99 that was on the menu! I can understand adding an extra dollar, but over $ 4 a plate is ridiculous. An EXCELLENT way to lose a customer for life! I will not EVER return to eat OVER-PRICED food, that is NOT that great. The beans look rewarmed for the 5th time or so, and the rice tastes like Rice-a-Roni; I assure you I will travel all the way to San Marcos or New Braunfels next time I want Mexican food!

Well I had lunch here and it didn’t take long and was pretty good. It was 2:30PM so I can fairly judge the service but all was good today. Only time will tell, but for now they get a 4.

Food was great. Was an unusually long wait for it. About 40 minutes. They were pretty busy and got backlogged quickly. They did not seem to have enough staff. I would try it again.

Very good food and great service. I would suggest that they dim the lights a little. Also, sweeten up the salsa just a bit.

The first time we ate here, it was pretty good. Have been back several times and it seems to be getting worse each time. Took a long time to get our food, and they were not very busy. About the only thing that was really good was the salsa, which was spicy and had great flavor. I ordered puffy tacos, which are supposed to be just that, puffy and light. They were over-cooked to where they were hard and crunchy, and very greasy. My husband ordered a bowl of chili, which was over $ 5.00. It was a small bowl for the price, and tasted like carne guisada gravy, in fact he found a chunk of carne guisada in it, so it was far from a bowl of chili and tasted terrible. When he complained to the waitress about the chili, she just shrugged her shoulders and seemed to not really care. I also don’t like the cheese they use. It is American, and not cheddar or colby, so it has that funky fake cheese taste. After looking them up online to write this review, I see a lot of people have gotten food poisoning here. That doesn’t surprise me. They had a huge container of chips sitting out on the same cart as they had dirty dishes piled up underneath. Pretty bad, and we won’t go back.

Bad service. Wrong food order at least 4 times. I liked the food so I kept giving it a shot even though my dad said he got food poisoning there. Well let me tell you, last night I went and on my way home I felt a total physical and mental shift. I became more and more sick through out the night vomiting and other unpleasant things. Needless to say I will not be returning. A customer can blow off every bad thing about a restaurant if they like the food, but a customer will not return after food poisoning.

Had dinner here last night with the hubby; good Tex/Mex at reasonable prices. Salsa was on the hot/spicy side but that’s the way I like it! Fish tacos were just that ~ fish in a flout tortilla. Could have added some cole slaw or pico de gallo. I’ll try something else next time. The Mariachi singers were a bit loud but added to the ambience of the place. We’ll go back!

The first time I ate here, I was impressed. Being a local, we never get really good mexican food without having to travel far away. Nonetheless, the second time I visited we were the only table in the restaurant, waited 35 minutes for the appetizer we ordered. I watched other people walk out because there was no one around to even seat customers, after about 45 minutes the waitress comes out and says(exact words, I was dumbfounded) «OH you are still here??» and I was like«yeah we never got our food, or our appetizer.» She ran away quickly to the kitchen, and around 20 minutes later came back and asked what my fiancée ordered. She had written down beef enchiladas, and he ordered the shrimp quesadilla. She said«OHHH ok, that is what is taking so long» I ordered cheese enchiladas… we got our food around 15 minutes later. Still being one of the few customers, we had waited over an hour for our food. The owner came out of nowhere, and he rang us up. I did not bother to mention anything since he didn’t even ask how our meal was, but I have not and will not return.

Hubby and I visited this place not too long ago, but the food seemed really off. Not only that, but we both felt somewhat ill after eating there. I have to say I will be taking this place off my list of «go to» establishments in the area.

Ate here 9⁄5: really enjoyed the caldo de res and especially the home-made corn tortillas. My husband had the carne guisada — said it was really good. He had the menudo as well and said it was different than what he’s use to but would possibly order it again(may have been boiled too much and needed more hominy).

Good traditional Mexican food, with few quarks, newly remodeled with a good spacious room for groups in rear. They have good Barbacoa and menudo with homemade tortillas. Good menu selections And not over priced. The hot sausa could use a little work it’s too runny. Need to add more Mexican decorations Finish the bar and front patio for seating.

Gotta start by admitting I’m NOT a big Tex-Mex fan. I do love their salsa, though and it is nice to have a clean and well-decorated place to eat in Canyon Lake. Their homemade tortillas are great. The service tends to be slow most of the time. Hopefully they’ll get that straightened out because they’re starting to get a reputation for that. I do wish they’d give you the option to have white meat chicken in the dishes. Need to try the chile relleno, that looked good.
