Vibe Credit Union

Vibe/​Telcom never ceases to amaze me with their level of incompetence and lack of commitment to customer service. After years and a plethora of examples, I can confidently tell you that you will be better off going ANYWHERE else.
Since Unilocal limits us to the amount of characters, I will try to make my review very concise to convey the complete dissatisfaction with this credit union. Here is my summary:
1996÷1997− My checking account and credit card opened.
2006– Closed on a house with a mortgage through Telcom
2012-​My husband and I planned to get married in March. Added him to my account (parents are joint). We called to inform them that we were getting married and my parents would be dropping off our wedding checks/​money while we were on our honeymoon. My parents attempted to deposit this money in the bank and were given the run around. After just over an hour of complete frustration, my mother was finally able to deposit the money. What a waste of time!
Sent over a copy of my name change on my license, showed my name changed SSN, gave a copy of my marriage certificate and filled out a form. But no name change happened. Even after 5 phone calls and multiple visits to the branch office. Vibe never updated my credit card or debit card, and occasionally I would be given a hard time at retailers because the name on my card does not match my license. Hence, I only use that credit card when I cannot use another one.
2013– Called Vibe to have my debit card enabled for withdrawls from a foreign country, when I arrived in the country, my card was locked. I called my parents (it was expensive), who are on the account to unlock the card. No success… Which meant no money in a foreign country! PARENTS BEWARE of placing the trust of your child in a foreign country with a bank that wont let you access your own money!
Jan. 2015– Parents try to open up another account at the office, I am a joint account holder. I had to fill out paperwork to get on the account. Vibe hassled me because the name they had on file for me was not the name I was trying to have added to the account. They gave me a hard time about depositing cash into my parents account. Transaction took over 40 minutes.
Later that day, I get a phone call from the headquarters explaining that my name has never been updated (duh) and they had no idea how that happened but if I could remember the names of the people I dealt with to change it that would be great. It was 3 years ago, how on earth would I remember? The lady on the phone PERSONALLY PROMISED to update my name the following week and a member from her team would contact me to fill out a form (YET AGAIN). The following week I received no calls or other attempts to rectify the situation. Thanks for that personal promise which didn’t result in anything.
April 2015– unfortunately, our plan to use our other credit union for the purchase of a new home fell through when we found out they do not give mortgages for properties over 10 acres. Last ditch effort to get a mortgage on a house we already put an offer in on, we called them. They ASSURED us we could meet the requirements of the purchase agreement closing within just over 30 days.
On 3/​27, Dawn B. assured us we could move the process along by signing documents at the branch office. We left work early (since we are over an hour away), documents were not filled out correctly (incorrect loan amount and they did not include all assets). Repeatedly called Dawn and the loan originator– no return calls. Sadly, 40 minutes later the branch office manager ushered us out of the building and assured us they could not help us but call again the next day.
Next day, Dawn assured us we didn’t need the forms filled out with all the information they requested and we provided because we already qualified for the mortgage without all of our assets entered– we were instructed to sign them anyway or else we would put our timing in jeopardy. We asked for a loan amount change– she told us that she would not be able to get an appraiser out by ⁴⁄₂ if we wanted that changed. So, we signed. After we signed, she could not confirm that appraisal was ordered or not… She did instruct us to keep checking back with our realtor to see when it gets scheduled.
Although we were told that if we signed the documents on 3/​30, they could get the appraisal on ⁴⁄₂. On 4/​7, we were told they could not schedule an appraisal until ⁴⁄₉. The only reason we agreed to the higher loan amount was because they promised an expedite appraisal to meet the ⁴⁄₃₀ closing date. That, of course, did not happen. My husband called the mortgage manager and expressed our concern to close by the ⁴⁄₃₀ deadline. The mortgage manager, Don, asked my husband why he had such a sense of urgency to close on a new house. Very unprofessional. I wish that Vibe would allow us to help make them a lot of money on our mortgage!
Too many more issues to mention within the allotted characters…

I’m shocked to see the negative reviews. I have been a member since 1994. I’ve never had a bad experience. I’m greeted by name when I go in. Many friends and family also use Vibe Credit Union and have always been satisfied. I just wish they were open a little later, but what can ya do?

I have a back-​up Visa card with Vibe. I also, until this week have had both a checking and saving account with Vibe, formally known as Telcom Credit Union.
I would like to inform the public about what can and will happen if you are currently a member of Vibe Credit Union and use their Credit Cards.
When I leave the country, to go on business and or vacation, I always call ahead of time to inform them of the date I will be leaving, returning and where I will be traveling. On three separate occasions I have had Vibe «turn off» my card. Thankfully, I have other cards to rely on. So, customer beware to travel with more than one credit card.
My most recent interaction with Vibe was that Fraudulent charges were being made on my account, one per month for four months. When I called Vibe to explain that I was not in the state that the purchases were being made from (Florida) and they were from a cigarette company (and I do not smoke), they pretty much told me too bad. I ended up calling a number of times and was constantly given the run around. The last straw was two days ago, while on the phone with Vibe… in so many words, the lady– Crystal Carmack, called me a liar, was yelling at me on the phone, constantly interrupting me and finally hung up on me. Toda, y I was called by the «vice president» although he used a different title, Craig Larson, and he told me, again, in so many words… leave our company, find another financial institution, we are not going to try to help you, or apologize for anything and we could care less about your business. That was the message that was relayed to me today.
The end result, Vibe does a very poor job managing fraudulent charges on their credit cards and blames it on a third party, which I was later told by another person at Vibe, is not true and they handle it in-​house. I was given a number of inconsistent statements between customer service representative and frankly they were extremely rude. No one should ever be yelled at, especially a customer of a company. Due to the unacceptable customer service, their inability to credit me the $ 357 that was missed on their part I will be leaving the company and I have been a member of the credit union since 1986. My family will also be leaving them as well as there are far too many customer friendly banks and credit unions in the Metro Detroit area to have to deal with this behavior and inability to do banking with.
I would strongly encourage people who are members to closely watch their accounts and or consider another financial institution.

One of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had. Everyone I dealt with was nice but no one said sorry once.
I opened an account online. The website said you can join if you live in the following counties or if you make a donation to Salvation Army. They took my money using a credit card to fund the account and make the donation.
I called a few days later to check the status and was told that yes the donation was sucsessful and my account would be open in a few days.
A few days later I get a call from the woman in charge of new accounts. She wanted to make sure that I new that they don’t have locations near me. I said that was fine. She never mentioned there might be a problem but she said that she had to talk to her manager about out of state members.
They end up telling me I cant have an account because I live outside the coverage area. and they «want to get to know their costumers in person» or something everyone I spoke to had a different answer. That’s not what their website says.
Instead of refunding my credit card they wait two weeks and then snail mailed me a check. I left several messages for the manager played phone tag and never got anywhere.
I’m glad that people that are this disorganized are not handling my money.
