Valley of the Hounds

I have border my 3 dogs here several times and Im very happy with Valley of the hounds. This place is not as fancy as some of the boring places around but since my dogs lick there balls I don’t really think they care with the paint scheme on the walls are. I feed a raw diet and one of my dogs has to take pills for a thyroid issue and the people working here don’t seam to have any issues with the feeding and pills. Its also nice that all 3 of my dogs can be housed in the same run. They have several different size runs and when I drop off and pick up my dogs all the other dogs look like they have enough space to sprawl out.

I took my dog for boarding for a couple days there recently. He’s never been boarded before. I thought it was nice and big place, nice grounds, and i thought he could play with the other dogs too — at 1^st. He’s a bigger dog, but a big baby. He’s lived with another dog for two yrs., as well as been with, played with my relatives big dogs for six yrs., as well as other dogs in a park situation, and never once fought or was aggressive with ANY dog at all! But didn’t have a tempermant test before. The girl there, who was rude in every phone conversation, Danielle, told me she gave me a «courtesy a free tempermant test.» She put him with a smaller dog, and my dog immdeiately went into defensive stance and was very aggressive so she refused to put him with any other dogs. That’s it she won’t try again. Absolutely ridiculous! My dogs the biggest baby. He’s never charged or went into defensive mode the whole nine yrs I’ve had him. Now as a result, hes been licking his leg, and theres a big piece of hair gone like the fur was ripped off. The owner said, «well i don’t know where he got it! He could have gotten it anywhere !! Also, he didn’t have a bordatella shot, so I had them give it to them. I didn’t sign the contract for the place until I picked him up as they didn’t give it to me till I picked him up. So nothing was explained to me regarding the shot and how it’s like a flu shot and many strains of bordatella exìsts. And if he gets sick from the shot its not THEIR responsibility to pay for vet bills because, according to the owner, Amy, she doesn’t know where he got sick from and it’s highly contagious. So if I was a «good dog owner I should take care of it right away! That’s the reason I called her to give her a chance to help me through this because I am a great dog owner and i wanted her give her a chance to make it right to a future cient. As a result of that shot he’s been coughing and choking for about a week since he’s been there. So i hope the vet will help my good dog. So as a result of this experience I had hoped my dog would be safe as I go visit my very sick, veteran dying father in a nursing home in another state. I didn’t want to worry about my dog, I wanted to focus on my dad. So now, my dog has a gauge in his leg, has a severe deep cough, and I have to spend EVEN MORE $ TO TAKE HIM TO A VET, NOT TO MENTION $ 175 FOR THE BOARDING COSTS. THE OWNER, AMY, AND THE WORKER, DANIELLE, COULD TAKE A HUMANITY CLASS TO GET SOME COMPASSION AND MANNERS WHEN THEY SPEAK TO CLIENTS WHO ARE PAYING THEM. I DON’T NEED TO TAKE MY DOG SOMEWHERE AND ACTUALLY PAY SOMEONE TO GET VERBALLY ABUSED. I AM ALSO DEMANDING THAT THE PICTURES OF MY DOG BE TAKEN OFF THEIR FACEBOOK PAGE IMMEDIATELY. THIS EXPERIENCE WAS NO WHERE NEAR WHAT I HAD HOPED IT WOULD BE FOR A PROFESSIONAL DOG BOARDING KENNEL. I’D GIVEN THEM A NEGATIVE 10 BUT YOU ONLY GET FIVE STARS TO RATE IT.

We love taking our fur baby here when boarding is needed. She also went to doggy daycare for a while. The staff all truly love the animals they work with, and they make me feel completely comfortable leaving my special needs rescued dog with them. They have a home like atmosphere, it doesn’t feel like a kennel.

I take my dog here and she loves it!!! The staff is very attentive and passionate for animals. I have nothing bad to say about Valley of the Hounds.

One star is too many… My boyfriend and I boarded our dog here overnight when we had to go to Ohio for a family wedding the night of November 8^th. We had seen the reviews and thought it would be ok. We walked in and noticed that the office smelled like urine. We passed it off as what happens when you have so many dogs to take care of. I found it unsettling that we weren’t shown where the dogs were kept and where they would be allowed to play, We were told that no matter what time you drop your pet off if you do not pick them up before noon the next day then you will be charged for another day. In our case we dropped Bear off at 3 and we ended up having to rush home to make sure we were able to pick her up by noon, because we were not ok with being charged $ 46 dollars for less than 24 hours worth of care. We left Ohio early and came home in time to pick her up. We paid while she was being brought out of her kennel. We put her in our truck, but on the way home we realized that she smell of stale urine. Whether she was peed on or was left in her own urine, this is not an acceptable condition to have our dog returned to us. We had to drive with the windows down all the way home. When we got home Bear acted as if she hadnt had water since we had last saw her, and drained her bowl twice. I ended up washing her twice before the smell came out of her. I will never board my dog with Valley of the Hounds again, nor would I recommend them to anyone.

This is a really amazing place. My dog was the runt & very shy but after a few days here she’s completely different! People compliment me on how outgoing and friendly she is. She feels safe here and happy anytime we’re walking up to the door!

We’ve been taking our dog here for daycare a couple times a week for about a year now and feel really good about bring her here. It’s a family run business and it’s run right out of their home.
Casey is really friendly, and by far the best (and was for some time the only) worker. It’s been hit or miss with the other people who have worked there but I can’t really blame them as it seems no one else has really stayed around very long.
They have a place for dogs of all different sizes and tempers and habits so I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for daycare or boarding. Our dog has some special needs (she will eat ANYTHING) and they’ve been very attentive, understanding and willing to take extra special care of her.
