The Italian Express

The best part about this place is the bread. It’s the only thing they have going for them. Everything else is just not that good. All the pasta tastes like it comes from a box and the sauces taste like they come from a jar. They don’t even have Alfredo sauce and it’s supposed to be Italian?

Great place for pasta. Generous servings of garlic bread with the pasta dinners make sure no one goes away hungry. Lasagna is particularly good.

These people were some of the nicest restaurant staff members that I’ve ever met in my life! My family and I were treated so well and it was like talking to family when we were there. I especially loved their garlic bread (that’s what they’re famous for) and tortellini pasta and my mate bought a cold cut sandwich and everything was lovely. Both food and service were top notch and I would recommend this establishment to anyone passing through Canton, IL!

I was visiting family in Canton, Il 2 weeks and got a craving for some pasta. I was looking to pick up something to bring home to share with my elderly parents.
I ordered the ½ gallon spaghetti dinner with salad and bread. It was somewhere between $ 20 — $ 25. I read the 2 reviews available and decided to try it after all the LaGondolas chain in Illinois doesn’t get stellar reviews but I love it. And both said the bread was great.
Oh well — I don’t think I’ll be revisiting Italian Express to satiate any more pasta cravings. The spaghetti noodles were cooked perfectly, however it was a bland meatless sauce. The bread was slightly undercooked, sliced lengthwise and saturated with garlic butter giving it a greasy doughy texture. I would have gotten a better salad had I stopped by and picked up a bag of an iceberg mix at the grocery store.

Very hit or miss, but the bread is fantastic! Service is also hit or miss. Pastas definitely taste generic, tons of potential.

I got Italian Express take out this past week. Their dishes are def hit or miss. I typically go with a basic turkey sandwich. Love love love the bread. It is sweet and o so tasty. It is perfect with sandwiches or as garlic cheesey bread! Nothing fancy, but just fine for lunch.
