My wife and I spent 3 weeks camping in Utah during the summer of 2009. We spent a few nights in Kodachrome Basin State Park(AWESOME!): During our stay in Kodachrome Basin we rented one of these cabins from a wonderful older lady by the name of Mrs. Ott. I’m told that she finally retired and sold the cabins to new owners. Although I haven’t visited since the change in ownership, I’ve heard good things about the new owners. In any event, these are great little cabins! There are only six cabins, but when we stayed there the other five were vacant(Don’t ask me why, because this place is amazing!). Anyhow, they are real simple, but very clean and cozy. Just a one-room cabin, with a mini-fridge, a bathroom and two beds(queen size, if I remember correctly). They have wooden decks with patio covers, wooden picnic tables, and even a little charcoal grill. And the view from the front door is BREATH-TAKING! Not only that, but this place has some amazing sunsets and stargazing. There is a little general store next door selling ice and other bare necessities. Every day we’d return from hiking all day to find our room immaculately cleaned. There was a small corral out back with a lone horse(the ranger informed me that the horse was mending from a leg injury and had to be kept separate from the rest of the horses at a ranch in nearby Cannonville). It was great to visit the horse every night; by the second or third night he seemed to look forward to our visits. It felt like we had the place to ourselves; the only humans… and one horse… in the whole state of Utah! Well, to sum up: clean, comfortable, affordable, lots to do in the park and other nearby state and national parks, and BEAUTIFUL scenery! We’d definitely stay here again!

This is my favorite weekend getaways in Utah! The view is just beautiful, and you can access hiking trails outside your cabin door. It is quite, romantic and lovely. The cabins are inside Kodachrome Basin State Park, and a short drive to Bryce Canyon and Grand Staircase Escalante National Recreation Area. This is not a fancy resort, so remember to bring your own plates, flatware, wine bottle opener and charcoal for the provided grill. It comes with a small refrigerator, but you may want to bring a cooler as well if staying for a long time. The family that runs the place also runs a little store which is useful if you forget something. If you are renting a car to come here, bring a 4 wheel drive. There is lots to see and do with a regular car, but some really great stuff is accessible by 4WD only!
