Our pack camped for our annual Fall Campout. We stayed Friday/Saturday nights. Our pack traditionally reserved the Gwen Center and surrounding cabins for our group. We had a few families tent as our pack has grown. The facility is nice, but starting to show a lot of wear and tear. Cabins with door handles that have been broken for several years were still not repaired. The kitchen in the Gwen Center doesn’t have a working exhaust fan so any real cooking will trigger the smoke alarms throughout the building. The mold on the wall behind the kitchen sink hasn’t been addressed for the last three years we’ve mentioned it. We did visit the archery and BB gun range, those areas had nice well maintained equipment and grounds. The rock throwing range was a big hit. The campground is far enough away from the cities for some stellar star gazing and working in astronomy activities has been very successful.

My review is for the Polar Cubs day camp. The weather was nice and there was snow on the ground. What more could you ask for? While I had my doubts with our first activity of making snow flakes, however it quickly turned into a fun time for the kids playing outside. There was the wolves and deer game, snow tubing, climbing on a snow hill, a snow ball game vs the parents, and skits to end it off. I don’t know where the staff gets all their energy from, but they did an excellent job. I know I was pretty exhausted. If you get the chance to bring a scout here, do it. It’s a wide open space with lots to do.
