Visit this Cannon Beach History Center and Museumat night! The Hollywood sign is tiny even from here; forget about taking a photo with the Hollywood sign. Take in the night view of OR here. There is also an interesting museum at the Cannon Beach History Center and Museum worth visiting. Mostly parallel parking — make sure you can park!

Big thanks to Melissa for her helpful review — not only with clarifying the location(she was spot on), but also mentioning the quilt room. I was recently here on vacation with my mom, who is a quilt lover and maker, so I knew we had to make a stop. It was so interesting, not to mention free! I have spent a lot of time in Cannon Beach since I grew up nearby, but I learned more in half an hour in this tiny little museum than all of my other trips combined and probably even in school. It was fascinating, between the tsunami history, the«Tilly the Terror» Tillamook lighthouse boat crashes, the original settlers and dwellings, the laws about public beaches and everything in between. The employee was helpful and friendly, gave us a few great recs and even filled our hands with a bunch of free literature and maps. Totally worth the quick stop. Lots to see and listen to — wall displays, tvs and audio clips.

This place is actually really interesting for being a tiny, tucked away little(remodeled?) house. By the way, the Google maps directions for this place are wrong. Type in ‘Cannon Beach Fire Dept.’ into your Google maps or GPS or whatever, and you’ll find this historical society right next to it. Believe me, there’s only one Fire Dept. listed, and that’s the one you want. Anyway, the museum is free and has all sorts of history about Cannon Beach and Tolovana, including the times before the settlers arrived. There’s a bunch of interactive activities for the kids(or the young at heart) to partake in. There’s also a room devoted to quilts, which I didn’t understand(there weren’t any signs that I could see/read) so you know… there’s that… All in all, a very nicely put together free museum on the Cannon Beach area. It’s clean and bright, and it’s obvious that the volunteers who staff the museum are dedicated to the area. Talk to them if you want some insider knowledge on the area, places to see, and things to do!
