Being that this is the only option for car rental in this town, other than a local car dealer, I have used it in the past while visiting family there. This time I needed to pick-up in C-Ville and drop off in Nashville at the airport due to an ice storm that would not allow my usual chauffeur to drive me. The service I received from Mike was very pleasant. I had to call a separate number to book the one way drop off, and Mike called me to confirm the reservation, which turned out having to be changed due to weather. He kept me informed as the tome approached for pick up. I arrive and am processed by Mike in a professional and pleasant manner. He even walks out in the cold to get the car and drive it to the entrance for me to access. This is where the issue lies. Upon opening the car door of the Volkswagen Passat, I am immediately hit in the face with the OVERWHELMING odor of thick cigarette smoke! Following that smell, I get the disgusting odor of men’s cologne. I believe a failed attempt at covering up the cigarette smell. I go straight back to Mike and let him know that my travel companion is asthmatic and will surely not be able to endure the 3 hour drive to Nashville without distress. He informs me that he has NOOTHER cars available, but there is a minivan and suggests an up charge. I am leery of driving a vehicle on icy roads that has little to no center of gravity and visualize my California self upside down in a ditch after hitting a patch of black ice. I quickly decline the minivan and throw up my hands in defeat to go pick up my traveling companion. We had to drive almost the entire distance at 40 miles per hour with the windows down just to be able to breath. The irony is the fact that there is a «no smoking» decal stuck to the dash directly below the scented tree air freshener hanging from the rear view mirror. Turns out that the men’s cologne smell was actually the horrific smell of the air freshener. The condition of the interior was like that of a farm vehicle with dirt coating the inside of both doors, mystery liquid dripping down the inside passenger side door, and dust covering the dash. Oh, I almost forgot the fact that we had no windshield wiper fluid and had to keep pulling into gas stations to clean the window from all the road muck being flung at us by semi trucks in order to see enough to drive. The airport location was more than accommodating and agreeable about the horrible condition of the car, and paused payment on my credit card pending my approaching the renting branch, which has been closed for days due to bad weather. So we shall see. Overall, if you find yourself using this facility for car rental, it will probably not matter in which condition your vehicle is presented to you in, as they have the market cornered in this town.
