Drove 40 miles to have our 19 yr old Gemcraft wedding bands repaired to find them closed at 4:10 on a Sat. All info on the internet lists closing time on Sat as 5pm. Very disappointed. Rings have been lovely but are not weathering the years nearly as well as our marriage.

With as much competition in the jewelery industry, there is really no time for old, stodgy and uneducated jewelers such as this one. I would love to have given them a positive review, and I tried to salvage this visit to no avail. To the owner: I know what I want, not what you think I should have. I believe this place has its loyal following, and good for them. I am here to tell you if you are a new or potential customer, do your homework. Know what you want before you go in. And don’t leave it to the shop to tell you what you want or what you will pay. Remember this, everything is negotiable, especially jewelery prices.

Tony is such a waste of time. Last time I went there with a bunch of loose stones, he took forever to examine them. This, was understandable. However, his calculations took almost 15 mintues. Knowing he is old, I waited patiently. Once he was done, he gave me a price.(Low might I add compared to others.) Then, at the end, he said he didn’t have cash. A WHOLEBUNCHOFTIMEWASTED! We agreed to sell some of the other items and to come back the following Monday when he had cash. I get there on Monday, made me wait about another 15 minutes. After, again this &%*&^%&(^ said he didn’t have cash. Oh, and he offered to pay $ 14 per gram for 14K. Pathetically low like the places at the mall. My scrap buyer pays $ 22 per gram for 14K. This guy is whack. Do not waste your time unless thats what your into.

We love Gemcraft and Diamonds. We were sent here 8 years ago by a «chain» jewlery store because what we wanted was to complicated for them. They use Tony for custom work and adjustments. He took a delicate piece and made it a true work of art. He really is a trained artist from another era. Every since them we have been coming only here and sending our frends as well. Tony is super honest… you can trust him. He does amazing custom work. If you have anything precious, you can count on him. He also sells jewlery of all types. He is a «small business»… a «one man shop»… but he is top quality. .“old school”… a real gem. We just had my mother’s diamon ring re-done as a pendant. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with it. The result is stunning… the price very modest. He is a true craftsman.

We went in on a Sunday just to browse and ended up finding the engagement ring that I wanted. Tony took all of our information and told us he would be in touch the next day with prices. He ended up calling us 3 times after we left to get information we had already given him. Then, the next day when we called him he had lost all of the information we had given him for a very detailed custom order. When we finally gave him all the info again, the price we were quoted was outrageous. Tony quoted us almost $ 10k for something we ended up getting elsewhere for significantly less(See our fantastic review for THEJEWELBOX). At the beginning, Tony had insisted that ordering the ring custom made from the manufacturer was the best idea because it would be «much more expensive» if we had him make it himself. Well, apparently that was a lie because after we told him his quote was way over our budget, we called an hour later to say that he could save us a lot of money by doing it himself. Overall, this was a terrible experience. We wasted so much time getting the runaround from this guy that we almost didn’t get the rings in time. I will never do business with this guy again. Tod at The Jewel Box is my only jeweler from now on.

This store has beautiful jewelries that you do not find in many stores. The owner’s wife who was wearing beautiful piece of jewelries was very helpful giving me a friendly advice. I got a pair of earrings from another store and was not sure the value of them she did assure that the appraisal is accurate but said to me that they are not new and one of the prongs is broken, she said that what I had paid was very fair price. A few days ago I did go to another jeweler who gave a wrong info telling me that the quality was not good and the size was smaller, I did not show him the appraisal I knew that he was dishonest, he wanted to buy $ 1200 for $ 300. I did not buy anything from gemcraft but their service is outstanding, they are fair and honest and it means a lot because they are some stores who want to rip you off with a big smile.

I have 20+ years in the jewelry industry and have worked with Tony(owner of Gemcraft) for almost all of them. He’s the best. What makes Tony so unique is that you can work with him on custom designs and manufacturing. Tony is a rare breed of jeweler who actually knows how to MAKE jewelry. Here’s a tip you might not know… when you drop off your jewelry for repairs at one of the mall stores, Tony is the one the send everything to get fixed! Now if time is of the essence, you MUST make time because for custom work it takes time. You may wait when you need to drop something off or pick it up, but that’s because Tony will spend the time you need to make sure you understand the work being done and then are happy once you pick it up. His prices are very reasonable. Deborah Loriau
