We stayed here at the recommendation of a local person we met on a walk. It’s an older place only 3 blocks from downtown. The rooms are very large and clean. Operated by a friendly couple very knowledgable about the area. However, we called a couple of times and got no answer, including one time before they closed to ask a question about the amenities. No answer and message on answering machine wasn’t returned, and they weren’t that busy. Just keep calling. But we had no complaints. Price was reasonable. Breakfast was complimentary pastry that tasted made fresh that morning.

We had a fantastic time in Camden, and the Towne Motel was a big reason. The motel is within a very short walking distance to downtown and the harbor, and the owners are very kind.

Rather expensive for a rather ordinary motel on a noisy main street with lots of passing trucks. I would look farther afield and off US1. Camden is an expensive place in general but the high prices here do not reflect the very average aspect of this motel. Perhaps it is living on some past reputation. If you book, get a room as far from the street as possible.

As far as motels go, this place earned its 5 stars. In the motel category Towne stands out as a winner. I am particular about where I stay when traveling. I’m ultra concerned about cleanliness for one thing. Most of the time, I don’t need someone to turn down my covers and place a chocolate on my pillow but always, I do need to be assured that things are really clean. So when I tell you this is a find, you can trust me on that score. The rooms are very simple and basic but they are comfortable. Everything is fairly recently updated so at least in our room everything was in perfect order. And no dust bunnies under the bed or in corners… yes, I looked. You won’t find an ironing board and iron nor will you get a hair dryer or a terry robe hanging behind the door. But you will get comfy beds, good pillows, thirsty towels, great water pressure in the shower and fabulous prices. Despite the motel being full the weekend we were there, it was very quiet overall especially at night. We’ve been coming up to Camden for years; my husband since he was a child. It’s a charming town that has grown in popularity for better or worse. We’ve stayed in many of the area hotels, motels, B and Bs, and cottages and have rented summer houses here for longer stays. The Towne motel is right up there with some of our better lodging experiences. Camden can be pricey but the Towne Motel is a relative bargain. Our room(#11 on the upper level) was $ 125.00 a night and it was I think $ 100.00 for a room on the first floor. Can’t beat that in this town unless you go camping. Another benefit is that it’s walking distance to get to the charming downtown area where the shops and restaurants are located. You can just leave your car in the parking lot. Have that extra drink at the bar because you’re walking home! The current owners are delightful and very welcoming. If you’re new to Camden, they will give you all the details. There is a continental breakfast included in the price of the room from 7:30AM until 9:30AM. The owners literally open up their house for this using their dining room table to serve. It’s a homey and generous touch. I wouldn’t think twice about booking a room here for another long weekend in Camden, one of our favorite areas in Maine. It’s not luxurious by any stretch, but if clean, simple, comfortable are good enough for you, then this might just be your place.
