I’m required to come here for my school supplies. I go to school in San Francisco, but I take online classes during my summer vacation so I can finally finish & score this MFA degree. Utrecht has the goods and I like that. They give student discounts & I like that too. Parking can be a bit of a hassle since they’re located right on Mass Ave, so its easy to either walk or take the #1 bus from Harvard Sq. I sometimes stop in for non homework needs, like when I want to experiment with different mediums on my day off, or when I want to stock up on drawing pads with different textures just for the fun of it.

They have the natural bristle brushes my mother loves — one star.
They have an awesome collection of every kind of art supply and canvas you’d need — one star.
They have really friendly staff (the kind that will scan in a coupon for you when you forgot to bring yours… so nice!) — one star.
And the location’s pretty convenient by car or (as I did this past weekend) by foot — one star.
I’m definitely a fan!

Great Customer Service. People here seems to genuinely want to help you find what you’re looking for. Prices are low to fair and because of this they seem to be out of stock of certain things sometimes. I suggest calling ahead of time to see if they have the supply you need.

this was my first experience in serious art supplies store, but utrect was great– not intimidation, and an incredible selection. the first employee that i asked knew exactly what brand of white calligraphy ink i needed for the best performance on black textured card stock! he didnt even have to ask around! amazing employees!
prices werent terrible either!

We had the best experience ever with the staff at this Utrecht Art Supplies store. We had all sorts of questions about picture frames, matting, and do-it-yourself. The store manager Douglas went beyond any call of duty. He was responsive and volunteered his experience and skills. We recommend this store for all your art supply and framing desires.

The people at Utrecht Art Supplies are great. I wanted to cheaply mat or frame a poster I’ve had since college that I love. First I went to Blick in Central Square and they weren’t very helpful. Also, their framing guy had overslept and hadn’t made it to work yet.
The employees at Utrecht were friendly and helpful. They measured the poster, cut down the foam board and my poster, and assembled the do-it-yourself frame for me!

Great little store, though limited in supply and pricy to boot. It’s easy to get to in a pinch though, and if your hot glue is drying, that faux-goldleaf has to come from somewhere. You pay for convenience really.
