They charge like $ 1.69 for Goya Ginger Beer, which I’ve only ever seen for 99 cents elsewhere. When I was checking in the back(read: 10 feet from the front) of the store the other day for any leftover bottles of the decent ginger beer they used to have, I came across a bottle of Ocean Spray White Grapefruit Juice that was definitely not«White». It was dark grey. Yeugggh. It is usually about 80 degrees inside. They have trophies of some kind behind the counter? That’s pretty cool so that’s where they earn the second star. Whatever, I’ll probably be back, because it’s right down the street from me and I am lazy. But even under those conditions I’ve only shopped here like 4 times since I’ve lived here, so obviously it is not that awesome.

Not a very friendly store. No greetings, no have a nice day, nothing. The only one that is friendy is the lady but the rest which is men are unfriendly and looked like they bored out of their minds working there. Otherwise if you ran out of something while your cooking its good to go there except if you need vegetables or fruits than you better go to wild harvest or shaws.

The Pro’s: Decent selection cheap eggs and milk random beverage selection(coconut juice anyone?) Friendly Counter Workers The Con’s: Closes fairly early 10 $ minimum for credit card purchases Overall it does what a small, family owned corner market should do.

Pro-tip: Pearl St. Market DOES stock a few vegetables: like garlic, onions, romaine lettuce in a bag. More importantly, however, it stocks Jamaican Ginger Beer(and Malta, but I’m not as into that). This means that you can make super tasty Dark & Stormies ALLTHETIME.

This place has solidly become my go-to for quickie grocery items I forget to buy while I’m out. Its a 2 minute walk from my apartment, and while its not the most well-stocked place, they have all the essentials and then some. I was mid-pie baking last week when I realized that I had forgotten to buy butter(for shame!)…in less than 5 minutes I had run to Pearl Market and was back in my kitchen whipping up the tasty end of summer treat. Having lived in a neighborhood where there was no friendly, around the corner, neighborhood corner store, I am eternally grateful to have it down the block. Plus, having been here a few times since I’ve moved to the ‘hood the guys at the check out & I are already on a first name basis… and sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name!

Not the best-stocked grocery in the world, but always a life-saver for the Cambridgeport community. This is where my roomie runs to for cigarettes, I run to for milk and orange and Malena runs to for scratchcards. It’s a family business staffed by(I think) Ethiopians, but there is no evidence of ethnicity here — simply copies of the Globe and Herald along with Green Mountain coffee on tap and a huge selection of bagged potato chip and tinned foods. Nothing perishable sadly. It’s always friendly here, so for that I have to give 3 stars. If they could get good bread(even if sold frozen) and stock fresh fruit /veg then it’d be a perfect corner store. Plus it’s on the block that they are planning to put Ben Affleck Square on. For real!
