Mimaroglu Music Sales

You really can’t top Mimaroglu Music Sales with the dedication of its owner, Keith Fullerton Whitman. The website is a phenomenal resource for in-​print (and even sometimes out-​of-​) experimental LPs and CDs, with an exhaustive library of Mimaroglu’s own reviews as well as sound clips. I’m still baffled at how one person is able to manage, write for, order for, and ship this whole operation, but it really works. Moreover, for the quality, rarity and breadth of the music here, the prices are very reasonable.

just to review mimaroglu, though i’ll probably end up reviewing other stuff too. i purchased keith’s most expensive item, hermann nitsch’s «musik der 80. aktion,» earlier this year as a present to myself for bearing the year’s job bullshit with a grin. hell, it was to give myself the grin. keith’s service was exceptional. the 20xcd package arrived fast and impeccably packed. a tote bag was involved in its transit, which i now use for farmers’ market trips. communication by e-​mail, phone, and text assured me i’d procured this remarkable piece of art from a remarkable distributor.
i’ve ordered lower-​shelf items from keith in the past, and found the service to be just as deluxe. if i had to criticize any aspect of the MMS shopping experience, it would be that keith seems to ignore any question e-​mailed to him in the form of «do you expect to get [fill-in-the-record-for-which-you’re-looking-here] in anytime soon?» but, even this behavior becomes endearing. and anyway, yes, eventually he gets it in.
the best thing about keith is that when i stayed at his house as the guest of his former housemate and my former lover, and accosted him in his kitchen at breakfast in order to praise his remix as hrvatski of god is my co-pilot’s «we signify,» he was polite and didn’t seem to sigh at all. i left with all the teeth with which i’d come. hopefully keith experienced no indigestion on my part.

Exceptionally good in every way imaginable. He stocks music he knows and cares about, writes beautifully about it, sells it at a fair price, personally responds to correspondence, and turns orders around quickly. It’s a true pleasure to support people (Keith, as well as the artists and labels he works with) who are doing it for love.

This is the first review I’ve ever written on Unilocal.I actually signed up for Unilocal just so I could write that MMS has the deepest stock of experimental items at some of the cheapest prices I’ve ever seen during my 15 year obsession with this genre. To top that off, Keith knows everything and is one of the nicest dudes I’ve had the pleasure to deal with. Really easy to work with from the point of view of both a label and a shopper.
