Small but efficient: quick serve, tasty food, good veggie options. Located steps away from Porter Sq.

I like this place. The food is always delicious, and they have tilapia which I’ve never seen anywhere else and it turns out is super awesome. The prices are very good and the service is always friendly. It’s a bit small since it’s just a bar-style set up, but there is usually at least one bar stool free so good if you’re flying solo. I wouldn’t come here with more than 2 people though just because of the tight set up. The service can be a little slow at times, but it’s because they’re making your order specifically for you. So this is a good thing!

Pro: Food comes out fast. Average price for sushi. Average taste for sushi. I ordered sweet potato roll(I had better ones) and an eel cucumber roll(which is average). Con: Sanitation. I saw a sushi chief load the dishwasher with his gloves on. Once he was done, he didn’t bother switching to a new glove before he proceeded to making more sushi…

This is my favorite takeout sushi place — reasonable prices and quick service. It feels like a genuine local sushi bar — hard to find but excellent. It’s also conveniently located on the Red Line in Porter Square. You’ll often find people picking up sushi after work on their way home. The only available seats are by the sushi bar, so I recommend grabbing sushi to go. Their crispy, spicy tuna rolls are fantastic. They only accept cash.

We stopped here for a late afternoon snack on a Sunday and were very pleased with the experience. It’s cash only, but they have signs everywhere and it’s very hard to miss before sitting down and ordering. Ordering was easy — we just checked off which items we wanted and handed it to the chef, and since we came at a slow time service was fast — within 10 minutes of placing our order. Menu items were very reasonably priced for quick sushi — $ 3 – 4 for 6 pc. basic maki rolls, and a little more pricey for the more intricate rolls. I’m a vegetarian, and I was very happy with the assortment of vegetarian sushi they offered; they had flavors I rarely see, like plum and cucumber, and pickled radish. The bar counter set up makes it really easy to stop in and eat a quick, inexpensive bite. Overall very good experience, definitely coming back.

Seriously? Hair on one of my salmons from salmon don. This is the third time I am having issued with food. Salmon roll and spicy salmon roll were soggy and tasted weird. I know this because I love sushi and am an expert who can say which salmon is fresh or not. This place needs a more thorough health inspection. I won’t come here again. It has disappointed me enough.

I felt so passionately about giving this place a 5 star review that I’m doing it now from my phone at the restaurant. This place is a super modest place that is easy to walk by, but make sure you don’t– this is some of the best sushi in Boston. My boyfriend and I shared a few plates of sashimi(tuna, octapus, salmon, yellowtail, and more) and everything was prepared to perfection. The presentation was beautiful and the chef was both skilled and humbled. There’s no doubt about me coming back here. Ps. This place is cash only but conveniently located next to a BOAATM.

I stop by this sushi bar from time to time. It is a nice alternative to waiting in line at some of the shops at Porter Exchange, and they make the sushi very quickly and yummy. You can sit down at the small bar and watch your order get made. I am a fan of spicy tuna and anything with avacados in it. Just like the other shops here, they’re cash only. There is an ATM in the lobby if you need to grab some cash.

Great food, incredibly affordable, and fast service! I Love Sushi is a regular spot for me when needing a good, quick, filling lunch. The only downside is that there is limited seating(its bar style seating) which makes it a bit difficult if you are with more than one or two people during a lunch rush, but its never as crowded as the surrounding restaurants. Its a great hidden gem in Porter Sq.

My friend and I ordered a Chirashi bowl and Sushi lunch. We received the smallest pieces of sushi and thinnest slices of sashimi I’ve ever had in the city. To top it all off, the menu prices did not reflect what we were charged(albeit only $ 0.50 more). Not a big deal usually but the whole experience felt like they were really overcharging us. I ended up getting pizza right after our meal here. Only saving grace here was their service. Wouldn’t go back though.

Delicious sushi! I have never spent more than $ 20 here. Last time i went, i got two orders of sushi and a bowl of miso soup($ 1), and the whole order was $ 12.35. Very quick service.

Good for what it is: very cheap sushi. Service is fast, and the sushi is pretty good. The fish is fresh, and the pieces aren’t tiny, although the selection is limited. They have the standard varieties here — -salmon, yellowtail, freshwater eel, etc. — but you’re not getting toro here. There are no tables(just a counter), so I wouldn’t come here with a date, but it’s great for a quick bite.

The rolls are good, but don’t order the sashimi. I ordered a piece of salmon and tuna, and got the smallest, thinnest prices ever. For $ 1.35 a piece, it seemed like a huge rip off. They were tiny!

We were craving Asian in Porter Sq, so we decided to walk through the Porter Sq mall and grab something in their«food court.» Te line for Sapporo Ramen was nuts, and some oft he other places were quite full, so we were deciding between I Heart Sushi and Bluefin. I Heart Sushi is basically a simple counter(no regular tables). You can order from a sheet and watch the chefs make your sushi right in front of you. I had salmon, yellowtail, and Caterpillar sushi, along with an avocado hand roll, and everything was pretty good. Definitely not the best or freshest sushi I’ve had, but most certainly not the worst. The prices are also quite reasonable. One thing I didn’t enjoy was when I ordered my 93 cent green tea, I saw them basically just pour some Costco Kirkland Signature green tea into the pot and brew it. I guess I was hoping for something a little bit more authentic than that. Anyway, I’d probably come back but I’d try Bluefin right next door too. I also prefer Super Fusion, which is quite close, so… actually I’d likely just go there.

I Heart Sushi is my go-to place for a quick bite of fresh sushi. They don’t have an enormous selection of specialty rolls, but what they have, they do well. Their spicy tuna cucumber roll is delicious, and the sashimi is always fresh and flavorful. I stop by here at least once a week to satisfy my sushi craving, and have never had a bad experience — the food is consistently good, and less pricey than most other joints in town. Even though they close at 9 p.m. and only take cash, I’m still giving this place 5 stars for quality product and fast, friendly service. I have recommended this sushi place to all of my friends in the Cambridge/Somerville area.

I’ve been coming to this spot for years, and even though it’s gone through a variety of owners, chefs, and names, the sushi seems to me to be mostly the same. And by the same, I mean of a solidly consistent decent quality. Nothing to make you scream in unregulated seafood-induced bliss, but reliably good. The best sushi in the Porter Square area? Well, I like the menu at Super Fusion *slightly* better, but I think the quality of the food is the same. Do note, as other reviewers have pointed out, this is a bar, with limited seating, but fun fact about the food court this places is a part of. You can order food at one place, and take it to another eatery in the same food court, as long as someone else in your party orders from where you’re actually eating. This is totally cool with everyone there. This also works in reverse: you can bring your own drinks to the the sushi bar, which is a good idea, because their soft drink selection is pretty limited. Staff is variable, but never unfriendly. Rarely will anyone be friendly, either, but sometimes, you can get service with a smile. Someone always thanks me and wishes me a nice day when I leave, which I appreciate. This is a great place to get a quick bite on your own, on the way home from work, just after you get off the T. Right by the Porter Square T stop. My personal favorites are the yellowfin and tuna. Always, sweet, fresh, and bright.

I decided to go overboard and get a sashimi bowl for lunch. Compared to the prices I’m accustomed to paying for a lunch special of sashimi, it was a little higher than normal, but not outrageous. My purchase included a decent selection of fish, tomagoyaki, pickled radish, and a few other items. The fish tasted right and the rice was good. It was not the best I’ve ever had, nor was it the worst. It was right in the middle of my sushi experiences. Not quite a meh experience but not a wow. I’ll be back, mostly because all of my grad school classes are upstairs and I have a severe weakness for sushi and sashimi. Cash only, so be prepared with your benjamins.

I would like to give this little sushi bar a good review. I had been to I Heart Sushi before and since they seemed like a decent establishment with only one review I figured that I’d take the time to pen one up. I sat down and ordered some cucumber rolls and ikura. It was a little odd that the ikura arrived solo but despite the petite portions there was nothing to complain about flavorwise. The bar was small but accommodating. The server seemed friendly enough. Best of all, I had a nice little vantage point of the chef action from my side of the bar. Then I got a phone call. I kept my voice low so as not to disturb the patrons next to me, who seemed very excited about their food. It turned out to be futile anyway, since the end of my conversation sounded something like this: «No problem, I’ll talk to you later as soon as you get some free time. Right now I’m sitting at a sushi bar enjoying some nice… OHNOHEDIDN’T!!!» Directly in front of me the sushi chef had dropped his knife on the floor. It was a rainy day in Boston, meaning the entire Boston area was like one big giant unmopped surface. No matter– any good chef would simply chuck the knife into the sink, grab an extra blade, then proceed with his/her work. Not the case this time. As if in slow motion, I witnessed the chef picking the knife up off the floor and resume his slicing of a generous piece of unagi. Julia Child jokes aside it does serve to remind one that sushi joints serve raw fish, not something which might be discreetly sanitized by roasting it in the oven. Furthermore, the cook’s choice to do this right before my eyes seemed not so much brazen as just plain stupid. I’d like to say that my evening meal concluded on a good note; instead it concluded with me a.) politely informing the chef’s assistant that it was not okay to use knives which had been dropped and b.) hurriedly finishing my tea and leaving.

I will go out of my way just to eat sushi here because of the good prices and good quality. The ambience isn’t that great and the seating is limited but it IS A SUSHIBAR. We try to go by after the lunch rush and there is always ample seating at that time. The service is quick and the food comes out fresh as you order it. I always order the same type of rolls and fish and its def more affordable here with the same type of quality compared to other prices for a higher price. If you like sushi without the fufu frills-then this is the place to check in.
