No denying the subs here are delish but I have been in three times and literally every single time they have been out of something major… ie steak for the steak and cheese. Really frustrating when you’re psyched for something and they can’t come through, they never seem to feel too bad either. I understand things happen occasionally but I’m 0 for 3 and it’s getting kinda old.

Solid cheese steak. Haven’t found better in the area. Massive, decent price, and fast!

The chicken salad is really as good as everyone says it is. Good value, too. I’ll be back here for sure!

My go to place for a quick bite for lunch. I usually get a steak and cheese with mushrooms and onions or the italian sub. It takes about 5 – 10 minutes for the order and it costs less than $ 7 for a small sub. Their small sub can easily fill you up as it compares to large subs at other sandwich shops.

Hard to find a good sub place sometimes. Especially hard to find them completely fresh. No issues whatsoever in that department. Had an Italian the other day, one of the best subs I’ve had in a very long time. Love the fresh bread and the size was perfect.

Just like everyone else will tell you… Best chicken salad I’ve ever had. Seriously. Go get a chicken salad sub from any of their locations. Their downtown location is slightly better but they are all phenomenal! Also, if you go early for lunch, you’re guaranteed to get fresh right out of the oven bread. Yummm

This restaurant was an amazing find. Large portions, good prices, and great quality. We had two hot subs and the burger sub. All were great! We will be back. The place is a little hard to find because it is inside the building(walkway through the middle). Worth entering to find!

The sandwiches here are huge! Great spot if you’re feeling pretty hungry and want something fast and cheap! My favorite sandwiches are the lady café sandwich(mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil with olive oil and balsamic vinegar) and the chicken pesto(grilled chicken with homemade pesto). The small sandwich is definitely big enough to share between two people and it’s only $ 6.50!

I have never been disappointed here! I love their bread! A fresh and perfect crunchy/chewy Combo! Favorite sub hands down for me is the tomato, mozzarella and basil! Pretty sure it has a special name, it’s been awhile since I have eaten it… formed an allergy to fresh basil… But product is fresh!!! Place is jumping at lunch time! So know what you want ahead of time to speed up the line. Enjoy! Everything is GREAT here!!!

Awesome! Huge sandwiches and the best cheesesteak I have ever had. Tucked away near the Harvard information center. They had an $ 8.00 special for sub, drink and chips. My niece got the chix parm and said it was delicious.

It’s my favorite sub place in the world!!! It really has the best sub I have ever had and I’ve had a lot of subs. I don’t know what they do it make it so much better than others, but maybe it’s the fresh delicious baguette. Their service is also so fast– I’ve never had to wait more than 10 seconds to get my sub. Maybe 30 seconds when it’s actually busy at lunch time. But they are seriously efficient. And so good!!! Oh ya, and their small sub is what normal people think a large sub is– so for $ 6.50, I get a small sub that lasts two meals!!!

I always take the flyer because the guy in the butcher’s apron is always so nice. I finally looked to see what he was selling & decided to try a sandwich at Al’s. I guess this sort of advertising does work! Al’s is located inside the Holyoke Center next to a couple other eateries. I went for lunch, & though the line was 10 people deep, it moved along quickly. I ordered a small chicken parmesan & the portion was enough for two meals — a bargain at under $ 7. I thought it was odd that they used chicken tenders instead of a chicken breast, but it was fine, although a little salty. Bread was a little spongy & not fresh tasting. I did enjoy the savory/tart taste of the marinara. Large variety of salads & sandwiches(hot & cold.) Cool that they carry Utz potato chips(like the salt & vinegar flavor.)

One of the best deals price wise in the Square. Chips, a drink, and a HUGE sub for less than $ 10. Since they are situated in the Holyoke Center, seating is limited and not guaranteed. The staff is a little standoffish, but that’s probably because they have to deal with a bunch of college kids all day, which would drive anyone crazy! The subs themselves are average, but they have a lot of options(hot & cold) to cater to a lot of different tastes. Good place to grab a quick, cheap lunch if you are on the go and want a sub.

I often come here for a quick lunch, and most of the time get the Harvard Sq Café special — it never disappoints. The only time I ever had a bad experience was when I deviated from my usual routine and got a burger sandwich — Al’s is the place to go for sandwiches, but the burger is definitely not their strength, so I would go somewhere else for that.

I have been to Al’s for the first time today, and it was so good that I know I’m going to be a regular. Me: small Chicken Arianna — basically a buffalo chicken sandwich, but with grilled chicken instead of fried. Healthy, right? The Wife: small Chicken Salad sandwich with chips and a drink. The sandwiches were awesome. The«small» is huge, so the wife has half of her sandwich as a leftover… but I forget why I don’t have leftovers though. The sandwiches were made so fast, despite it being crowded because Al’s is awesome. We were in and out in just a few minutes. And the sandwiches were so inexpensive. Maybe the prices were right on for a small in most places, but Al’s small is like a large everywhere else. Starting today, Al’s is going to be my regular spot for good, quick, cheap sandwiches!

I am actually legitimately terrified as to what a large sub looks like. Their small subs feed me for at least two meals or one marathon study session. This is so much better than Au Bön Pain although, I am ashamed to say, I was someone who ignorantly used to stop there for a quick sandwich on my way to class If you’re a tourist in the area I highly recommend making Al’s a destination for lunch. If you’re a local student or resident, I am sure Al’s will soon become a regular spot for you. Bread is great, meat is fresh(not slimy like some delis) and the portions are insane with incredibly reasonable prices. The staff is also very pleasant and listen to awesome music.

$ 8 for a 10 inch sub, a 20 oz drink and a bag of chips? Dude. That’s the best deal EVER. With tasty eats so nicely priced, how can you go wrong? A friend introduced me to Al’s and it was good the first time. The second time? Even better. Each time I got the chicken salad with hots, lettuce and tomatoes. Oh, and American cheese too. Don’t judge man, I was starving. The chicken in this chicken salad is so damn good. There’s just the right amount of black pepper, salt and mayo in the chicken salad. Bursts of this blend invade my mouth every time I take a bite. Deeeeeelicious. I want to try the other creations on the menu, but damn that chicken salad! Get it.

Wow this sandwich shop is the best I have seen in long time. My family had 2 chicken Parms, 1 ham sandwich and a natural burger. While the ordering process can be confusing, we are at Harvard, so I am sure people are smart enough to figure it out. Once you order the food, it came out fast and it was Delicious. My sons natural burger was a hamburger on sub bread and was tasty also. The chicken parms were the best I have ever had. Seating is very limited in the Holyoke Center, but it would be great to get on the go.
