I can only speak for the recent change in menu. It appears the menu was just changed on 7÷17÷2015 and they no longer offer many of the combination plates from the past. I usually come for the jumbo shrimp when in town, but I decided to just go with the normal size shrimp. You get around 9 shrimp for around $ 9.50. The shrimp was not well seasoned and batter/coating was too crunchy. The fries have absolutely no seasoning whatsoever :(Also, «Cash only» limits their customer base in my opinion. No more drive thru either? This is not a good sign of quality

This place had gone down! I call in my order and the the first words out of the woman’s mouth was“you can only call a order in if it more than $ 25! Ok my order was $ 50! Next the shrimp taste old and tuff. How is that possible. It lack the flavor it use to have sadly. If i want so far away I would have returned the food. I will say I’m done with this place. How i order fish n chips and i didn’t get the dang chips! The fish was rubbery. It was an overall bad experience. I use to love this place but not any more.

The shrimps are not clean and the restaurant smells like old dead rotten fish mixed with bleach. I decided to try the shrimp. .against my better judgment… Once I got passed the smell, I ordered the large shrimp. After eating a few I noticed that the shrimps were not clean at all. I ended up tossing the rest. Smdh. Never Again!

Considering a pound of average size cooked shrimp can be $ 10/pound on SALE at the store, I have been coming to Shrimp Express a lot more often. The shrimp here are fantastic — so dense it feels like you’re biting into a steak. The sauces, both mild and hot, are absolutely perfect. ‘Hood eating at its finest, y’all! And if you’re looking for your shrimp to be, like, buffalo or cajun, then you shouldn’t be eating shrimp this good anyway. Take your weave to Long John’s.

This place at one time was great, now they rush through your food orders and you end up with over fried seafood, we recently spent $ 35.00 and I can’t began to tell you how horrible the food was, the clam strips and shrimp over cooked the fish undercooked the fried ice cold and we only live less than 5 minutes always Will never go back this is my second time of a horrible experience

Um what. Based off the reviews alone you would think this place was a must. Maybe I came on an off day but I doubt that. Working in the South Suburbs there are not that many places to go for lunch so whenever I hear about a good place I am ready to try. I also love supporting local businesses. I went here today for lunch so the memory is still pretty fresh. I got the shrimp meal with fries. The fries are whatever like no taste no nothing. The shrimp was bland no seasoning. The breading didn’t have flavor either but I was eating with cocktail sauce and hot sauce so you can deal. Well what I cannot deal with is uncleaned shrimp. In the middle of eating a shrimp I noticed the lovely shrimp poop. Ok so I stop eating that piece and think maybe some of them are cleaned. WRONG! All of them had shrimp feces just chilling fried with the rest of the food. Gross.

The Only place I go in Chicago for fried shrimp. I like the large shrimp and an order of the fried zucchini. The shrimp is always delicious, and I like mine with the Louisiana hot sauce rather than the cocktail sauce. I like the potato salad… yummy, and it is inexpensive. There is always a wait at this place, so I like to call my order in ahead of time. Only gave 4 stars because of the service. Customer service is NOT a strong point here but the shrimp is worth the attitude I suppose, because the place is always packed!

Amazingly fresh seafood here. The fish is ok but it is the shrimp that are worth the trip. They are fresh and you can buy them by the half pound or pound. The fries are not that great. They have a drive thru which is convenient.

If you weren’t introduced to this place, you would never have known it was there. I used to work in the area and would drive past it all the time. I never knew how incredible great the shrimp are until a friend of mine told me to try them today. As the other reviews have mentioned, they peel the shrimp & tails completely before frying. This makes every bite that much more satisfying! Their breading is excellent and not hard. I’ve eaten at other places where my gums are sore after eating because their breading is so hard. Order the Jumbo shrimp and you won’t be disappointed! I definitely recommend it! Note — They only accept cash.

YUM. 1 pound of jumbo shrimp + 2 small coleslaws + 4 containers of cocktail sauce = $ 20 of amazingness. The jumbo shrimp were huge and they pull the tails before frying so you get to enjoy every single morsel. The batter was the perfect amount and flavor. The coleslaw was the good creamy kind and the cocktail sauce was pretty unique(more like a cocktail meets BBQ flavor. My husband and I shared this order and were both stuffed. They only take cash so hit up the ATM beforehand. There’s a drive-thru but it doesn’t seem too inviting(pull directly to the window to order and there’s no lights on that side of the building). If you go inside the food comes up quick so the wait is minimal. This is strictly take home food. There are no tables or seating.

How does this place exist only in ONE location? How dare they NOT have another store??? We went Saturday evening about 7pm. Some homeless guy was opening the door asking for spare change but you get past that really quick when the aroma from inside just knocks you for a loop! I had never been here before but at the advice of my former boss/best friend, we all drove from the north side of Chicago out to Calumet City. Jumbo Shrimp – $ 13.50/pound. I counted about 15 shrimp a pound; my partner and I were greedy so we ordered 2 pounds. Next time it’ll be 4 pounds. One good thing about these shrimp… they had no tail on them so you could eat the whole thing. Even if you try to wait until you get home, you just gotta try one before you leave the parking lot! Their menu is really impressive too, frog legs were about $ 9/lb, catfish nuggets were $ 5.45/lb. I normally don’t like shrimp sauce but theirs is very good!!! Not a strong vinegar taste to it; instead, almost like bbq sauce, only lighter in color and a bit sweeter in comparison to regular cocktail sauce. The breading is light, not heavily overloaded where there’s 90% breading and %10 shrimp. They are jumbo, and it’s the largest shrimp they have. There’s no use ordering ½ lb, as that’s just a teaser and will make you kick yourself for not having more. It’s not real expensive, but not something you can have every weekend unless you just got money like that! Try to get there before 8pm as it seems that’s when the place fills up. There is also a sign that says they need $ 1/$ 5 bills, so if you just happen to have some that you would like to exchange, they’ll happily give you a larger bill for the smaller ones. They do not take credit so stop by an ATM before you head it. You will not be disappointed in the selection, the size of the portions or the taste. We’re a total 1000% fan of this joint now. We are ROO-INED!

EVERY Chicagoan I know that lives someplace else in the country can’t wait to come home to do a ‘food run’ to their favorite places. Of ALL the places I’ve had jumbo fried shrimp in the world, THIS is my favorite place to get them(except for a little roadside café in Puntarenas, Costa Rica)! Let me break this down for you. Shrimp should TASTE like shrimp with the very first bite. The breading should compliment the taste of the shrimp, not become the dominant flavor or be overly fussy and thick. They should also come with a tasty sweet cole slaw and delicious fries! Check, check, and check! I sure hope someday someone invents a way to fax food! I don’t miss Chicagoland weather, but OMG do I miss the food and the wonderful prices. No where else have I found such great food in such large quantities with such reasonable prices. ½ pound of some of the best and freshest shrimp you can buy(with fries and cole slaw) for $ 9 after taxes. I wish I could just wrap up this entire building and bring it back to Georgia with me. THEVERDICT Shrimp Express… you alone are worth the 11 hour insufferable drive it takes to get from Atlanta to metro Chicagoland. I hope you never, ever, ever change because I will never fail to pay you a visit when I’m in town. Unilocal100[57]

Ordered from this place many times. Love the shrimp BUT the service is something to be desired. Called in a pick up order on Christmas Eve and made the huge mistake of going thru the drive thru to pick it up. The line inside was long and only two cars in front of me in the drive thru but I literally waited 50 minutes before I finally got the food. Once you enter the line at the drive thru you are stuck in line and cannot leave… I think they should just close it off! A drive thru should be fast, 50 minutes being stuck in line to me is ridiculous! if you cannot run it as is should be… don’t run it at all. The woman taking orders seemed cold and annoyed to be bothered with her job. no emotion no thank you… just a blank look on her face as she took my money and handed me a bag of cold fried shrimp! I realize they were busy but need to improve the way the business is run! I may not return the only reason I gave 3 stars is because after warming the shrimp in the oven they were pretty good.
