In my opinion, one of the top breweries in Va. A great variety of brews, all of excellent quality, and some unique and interesting choices. Beautiful drive, all the better in a sports car. There’s kind of a funky, hippie vibe to the place, in a very appealing way, or to put it another way, an absence of pretentiousness. Met nice folks, heard good music, drank great beer. What more could you want?

We visited Chaos Mountain Brewing on Sunday(the rainy icky day). Note that when using google maps — first ignore the recommendation to not take 81 there. Second it places the location not in exactly the correct place — so you may have passed it or may need to go a bit farther depending which direction you came from. It’s directly off the road so take a look at the pictures people have posted and look for the red building! While we were there the bar was full in the taproom, and a few tables and the pool table as well. The bartender was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. The location was clean and large — great for having conversations! Not noisy like a bar. We tried a few of their seasonals — pumpkin(legless horseman) and Oktoberfest. Both were good. We also got to try Stacy’s brittles made with beer and spices — tasty! If you are in the area I highly recommend you stop in! I am about an hour away and it’s a nice place to visit before or after hitting Roanoke(I am in Blacksburg). Pictures!

Outstanding! It’s a beautiful drive up to the brewery.(Don’t count on phone reception. Print off a map or memorize the directions. US Cellular has no signal up there.) It’s a big brewery in a rural setting. We were one of the first there on a Saturday afternoon, so parking was great but there were no food trucks that early in the day. The tap room seating area is huge, comfortable, and attractive. There’s a big stage area and seating outside is available. In addition to their beer, they have t-shirts, caps and growlers for sale. They have several flavors that I haven’t seen anywhere else. Cheeky Monkey, Mad Hopper and Squatch Ale are distributed in our area but we haven’t seen Smokey the Beer, Agents of Chaos, or Coco Borealis for sale anywhere other than at the brewery. Coco Borealis is a triple chocolate stout and is a very good full-bodied beer. It does not taste heavily flavored. Very nice. Smokey the Beer is an amazing porter that is VERY smoky. Agents of Chaos is a Belgian Special Dark with a heck of a kick to it.
