We had an amazing dinner here! Highly worth the trip and the cost!!! Our server was helpful in explaining the menu. We brought a bottle of wine that we picked up from a vineyard, but we also got some sake to have with our sushi; we were offered 3 options and got samples to try before deciding, which was great, we ended up with the best sake any of us have had! I highly recommend giving these guys a try!

Tempura was very good – light and fluffy, not soggy at all. Miso soup was not too salty, quite acceptable. But two beef dishes(bento and sukiyaki) used chewy meat that we didnt enjoy. Only microscopic amount of beef in the sukiyaki. Décor is Japanese but that’s hardly sufficient. We wont visit that place again.

Excellent food, great service and always a fun time. It was a busy memorial day sunday and we were seated promptly. Renee and Chef Jose, the owners, are there greeting everyone as they come in the door. Chef Francisco as well. The rolls are off the hook yummy and my favorites are the old school sushi mambo rolls«phoenix» and«dragon» and I tried the«sabadabadoo» because I like mackerel(saba) and because of my taste in that fish, the waitress suggested that roll. Yummo! My lady and her mother both ordered the«Mt Fuji» and it arrived looking like a heaping volcano of fish, rice, and ponzu sauce! for those who dare I tried the«mucho macho» a while back and it burned a hole in my tongue. The chefs are quite the artists there and it shows in the food! cheers to you for a fine meal Sushi Mambo

Sushi over here is super fresh! Also, I’ve had katsu everywhere but saw that they had red snapper katsu which I hardly see on menus so I had to try it. You cannot go wrong with the red snapper katsu! This is probably the best Japanese joint around Napa, no joke!

Best Sushi ever! I’ve been a customer of theirs since I was 15 years old at their location in Napa. Always consistent and delicious. Their customer service is always excellent and super friendly. I recently moved back to Napa and was sad to hear that they closed their location in Napa after the earthquake, but happy that they were able to reopen in Calistoga. Although it is quite a ride up the valley for sushi, it is absolutely worth it! Still as consistent and delicious as ever! Glad to see the same sushi chefs are still part of their team!

I should probably give them 4 stars, but I just can’t. I’ve had better Japanese food, but this is pretty good — the food is worth 3.5 stars. Our waiter, while friendly, was not as attentive as he should be, especially considering how slow they were. I’m certainly not disappointed, but I will try someplace else next time we’re in the area.

The food was 4 stars but the service was a 2. Young man that served us was just not very attentive, has to ask for refills and stuff. Sitting in a Japanese restaurant listening to jazz, would of enjoyed the cultural music.

In looking for lunch options that a vegetarian could also enjoy, we stumbled upon this place. On Lincoln Ave, just past the grocery store(just past the downtown but a very easy walk!) we found this cute place and stopped for lunch. Sweet staff that welcomed us immediately and even on a Monday it was fairly busy. We sat by the window to enjoy the views of town and the mountains. I ordered lunch menu A, which consisted of miso soup and my choice of two vegetarian rolls. I opted for one with cucumber, avocado, and macadamia nuts(what!!!) and one with sweet potato. Both were amazing and the portions were huge! My partner had the west coast roll and said that was delicious as well. Great food and very reasonable prices!

We came here from the Northern Virginia on spring break and we were looking for our favorite food-sushi! The sushi was fresh and was really good. It took a little while to bring the food but it was fresh and tasty and worth the wait. The ambience was decent but bit crowded which means lots of people prefer to eat here and that is great! Calistoga is so wonderful to just walk around in and enjoy the mineral bath and now the freshest sushi to eat! We will come back again!

UPDATE: not an hour after I wrote my review I started to feel like I was dying. I was nauseous and overheated the rest for the rest of the day… and it wasn’t hot out. One of my initial apprehensions was on the safe transport to a city this far inland and it seems this could be in question. Yes it was tasty and the service was good, but I don’t enjoy paying to feel sick to my stomach. — — - I must admit, I was a little apprehensive to try Sushi Mambo for several reasons. I decided to give it a shot today — ordered the Saba-Daba-Doo. I arrived right at opening and was greeted immediately. I can’t speak as to eat-in service but take out was very good. While it took 15 minutes to get my single roll, I was quite happy with the result. Only complaint about the roll is that it wouldn’t hold together in chopsticks. Otherwise, tasty. Prices are a little high but I can imagine it’s partially because of making sure the fish is safely transported safely this far inland.

Loved it here. Friendly service. I needed gluten free options and they were very accommodating. We asked for more ginger and they gave us a huge bowl… didn’t even get to finish all the fresh ginger. We had a reservation and they actually seated us in a quiet place near the window. Would highly recommend!

We wandered in at about 8:30 on Valentine’s Day with no reservation, and we were seated promptly. Major score! We were worried no one would be able to accommodate us on such a busy day, during such a busy weekend. And the fact that they WERE able to seat us almost seemed worrisome(as backwards as that sounds). But there was absolutely nothing to be worried about. Roll selection was varied and interesting. Fish was fresh and flavorful. Wine selection was good and pours were solid. Restaurant was clean and inviting. My favorite part was that the owner was our server. She was SO sweet and sincere and it just made the whole experience 100x more enjoyable. She told us little anecdotes about the area and her connections to the wines they serve, which made ordering fun. She was incredibly down to earth and smiley, and not in a way that felt fake at all. In fact, the whole waitstaff was really nice and attentive. Lots of goodbyes and thank yous when we left. Overall, really great experience. Would definitely go again. It’s one of those places that you go to and then immediately fear that it will make you less adventurous and willing to try other places because you’re always going to want to return.

Food was ok. The waitress didn’t do much other than drop off the menu and serve the drinks. We sat at the bar and though the chef was nice I wouldn’t say the service was exceptional. The sushi itself was good but I would of liked the rolls to be cut better. I couldn’t tell where the roll was cut so each time I grabed a piece it was a little messy. Overall I would say it was just Ok and a little overpriced but I understand it’s a tourist city so it’s to be expeced.

Cozy small place across from Indian Springs. Food good! I only had a couple of things but all tasty. Wakame not too sweet, not too sour and not soggy. The seaweed is just the right crunchiness. Also had the Sushi combo that came with Miso. Its a bit salty but that is how Miso is suppose to be. Got enough soy taste so good good. The rolls were made with fresh ingredients! The avocados were perfectly ripe. My biggest requirement for good sushi was also met, the Rice! It was not soggy and not too dry just chewy enough. It was also not too thick layered. Would recommend and come again.

I love this place so much that I travel to Calistoga from Napa now that they have moved just to go here! I love the High Roller roll but all of the special rolls are good. I have been eating at this place for over 10 years. The owners who work there are very nice every time I come.

Great service and some dynamic, creative executions of sushi rolls. Thumbs up on the spicy grilled salmon with cucumber(Ninja), and avocado, cucumber and macadamia nuts(Are you nuts). Excellent choice is you’re in the mood for sushi whilst in the Napa Valley region. My only wish for dining at this restaurant is if they offered the nutritious and high B vitamin brown rice option. Also, the miso soup could’ve been hotter. Overall, great service and good wine list too! Highly recommend and will be back!

Best sushi in Calistoga! Might be the only sushi, but after eating here I’m not gonna bother to look elsewhere. Nice little gem in Calistoga. I went for lunch with my girlfriend around 3pm between wine tastings. We sat at the bar and watched the man behind the glass do his work. I always enjoy a good sushi chef who chats with customers while making sushi. We started off with miso soup which was fine. I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad or great miso. But while we waited for our food the chef made us a cucumber and tuna salad. Very simple but fresh and delicious. My girlfriend got some oyster dish. It was delicious. I didn’t pay much attention to it until I asked for a bite and she refused. Once I snagged a bite I saw why. It was delicious. I don’t know what was in it and I can’t find a menu online, but you have to try it. I got one of the lunch menu specials. Good sushi, packed right and a good amount of fish in the roll. I think we left with a bill of like $ 20? It was very reasonable considering what we served to us. I’ll be back to eat on my next visit.

This cute little resturant is amazing! First night in town and was starving around 5:30(i know super early) and we walked into this resturant. We were the only ones in the resturant and got a little table by yhe window. We ordered our meal which included the chefs special for my boyfriend and spice tuna roll for me. His started off with a miso soup which was great for a cold night. Next time our waiter checked up on is he brought us this amazing seaweed salad with raw tuna on top. Since I am gluten free I wasnt able to eat but it got 2 thumbs up from my boyfriend. Our meal came and the waiter brought me some soy sauce substitute that was gluten free. The fish was fresh, the flavors were on point and the service was fanominale. I would love to eat here all time. If only I lived a little closer!

Nice outdoor seating. We were here on a warm summer night. Chicken katsu was good(crispy and the sauce was a little different than usual), and I really enjoyed the salad that came with the meal(dressing wasn’t too heavy). My husband had the sashimi, which he said was fresh tasting. We usually don’t order dessert at a Japanese restaurant, but the donut dessert was pretty unique sounding. so we wanted to try it. The donuts are fried and covered with sugar. It comes with chocolate sauce, but these donuts are delicious on there own! Definitely should try if visiting!

One of my favorite sushi places that moved from Napa, my husband and I still drive up to Calistoga just to have it. I love their cold noodles and their fried mushroom roll. We always get a variety of rolls and they are always great. The staff is friendly but a little slow, it took us a good 5 – 10 mins to just get a drink even though we were the only other table in there for lunch. Once we ordered food came quickly. Their new locations is small but really cute. I have this only 4 stars because when I had ate there the other day I noticed the bathrooms smelled of urine. That really grossed me out. Everything else seemed clean but they should give a little attention there and work on service timing when guest arrive. I will definitely go again but in hopes of a cleaner bathroom and faster timing for drinks upon being seated.

We’ll my wife and I on our aniversary decided to try this place out. It is a nice small place to go eat. We’ll it was weird that it was a place that was mostly non Japanese at a Japanese restaurant. My wife had the chicken Ramen. It was less meat then expected. I decided to try the bento box. So I pick it with chicken and California roll. Unfortunately for the chicken teriyaki, it was really dry. I’m used to the chicken being moist and tender. I’ll probably not order this one again. The waiter who was American, not Japanese, told me to try the mermaid. I would usually go for the dragon roll, since I like those. The mermaid turned out awesome. I would order that one again if I come back to visit Calistoga. We also tried the love boats. They were tasty. I recommend the love boat to try.

We ate here on Sunday night and the only reason I am giving them three stars instead of two is because we got comp’d 10% because of their mistakes. First off, do NOT sit outside. We waited 10 minutes to sit down outside because they were too worried about to-go orders they had. After we got seated, it took our server almost 20 minutes to take our drink and dinner order. After an hour of sitting, we hadn’t seen our server or our food. The owner then came out and apologized and said our food was being made now(which led us to believe they had forgotten about our food). When we got the food it was delicious, as expected, and we’re happy. We only saw our server twice and had to ask another server for multiple things. I loved sushi mambo when it was in Napa and may try one more time.

My 2 girlfriends and I went to Calistoga for a spa day and after that we found ourselves dining at sushi mambo as a last minute plan but it was so welcoming, our waiter was a young gentleman by the name of Adrian, he was so accommodating, politely nice and a good listener, whatever we had requested, he served efficiently. I had ordered the dinner special bento box and it was satisfying, I chose the beef teriyaki with California rolls and it was a lot and well prepared along side with some miso soup, salad, rice, noodle salad. The only reason why I reduced one star was because we were seated outside. We were suppose to be seated inside and wait for a table to be available but was never moved however we were already distracted by the food, wine and some chit chats. Good thing it wasn’t that cold out and they had heaters as well. Not bad at all!
