Other reviewers bagged on this restaurant for inconsistent service and lack of bread when other tables got bread. When I read those reviews I thought«no way». Well I’m here to tell you– we sat next to a table who got bread while ours was conspicuously absent. Also-if you enjoy a cocktail(or 2) this is not the place for you. They serve beer and wine only. But on to the food. Sweetie ordered the fried chicken. He loves fried chicken in all forms. His opinion is that you can get better at your local grocery store. I had the sea bass which was very good. We ordered a side a Mac and Cheese and it was the best part of the meal. Overall, you are better off hitting the deli at the local grocery store and taking your meal back to your hotel.

The grilled artichoke appetizer left a bit to be desired as I am a huge fan of artichokes, however, the ribs more than made up for it. They were freakin delicious! Tender inside and the outside was crispy. My girlfriend’s hamburger was also very good. Would definitely go back.

After a long day at the spa at Indian Springs, my hungry trio of friends and I were anxious to find some healthy bites in town before hitting the road. Flatiron’s prices and modern fare seemed like a good fit for us and we decided to get some plates to share. The service was attentive but inconsistent. One thing we noticed was that other tables were offered bread and butter, though we did not get any offered to us. We ordered the trumpet mushrooms in sauce, the roasted artichoke, iceberg wedge saled, nicoise salad and finished with the grilled seabass over faro. The artichoke, though grilled, was extremely woody. it was as if someone had forgotten to parboil it first. The seasoning was light, and it was not oily, though some parts were burnt to a crisp. The menu has a sides dish, ranging from mac and cheese to single items, such as broccolini or mussels. My girls and I order the trumpet mushrooms which came out in a castiron skillet and looked like they had delicious sauce. They were also extremely dense and woody, seemed undercooked. For mushrooms, I think a key is to have a good sauce, but theirs was bland. The deconstructed tuna nicoise was good although seemed like an amuse bouche?, A cupful of greens, 2 fingerling potatos cut in half laid upon corners of the plate and a couple mouthfuls of tuna. The iceberg wedge was heartier, covered in blue cheese dressing and had quite a heaping amount of bacon to accompany it. While it’s not what I would choose to order, this was the highlight of the meal. The fish was cooked nicely, but we each found bones in our meat. The bed of farro and vegetables was a good accominiment, but also very lightly seasoned, and seemed as bland as the mushrooms. Since it’s across the street from JoLe and in foodie country, I was expecting better than I experienced.

Not for the food! The food is awesome! I am giving a 1 star based on «chip on the servers shoulder» service. We had a group of 7 and treated like they didn’t want the business. First they asked if we had reservations, but the restaurant was practically empty. Our waiter took orders from all the other tables before us. We waited over an hour to get our food. It took 45 minutes to get our 1st course. I understand the kitchen can get backed up, but the waiter couldn’t even give us reason. I used to love this place because of the friendly service and great food, but now rethinking on recommending it ever. Very disappointing.

Warm service and good comfort food. The artichoke dip was clearly made from scratch… We had stuffed chicken with fried skin and a juicy burger. Food coma(heavy and butter flavored) well worth it!

Three words: Chicken Fried Steak. This and other comfort food defines the Flatiron Grill. We really enjoyed it here and will come back next time in wine country. Nice, clean establishment with animated servers made the experience really nice after a day of pounding down one wine taiste after another.

WORSTSTEAK I HAVEEVERHAD!!! 0 stars if I could. My wife and i went there for our anniversary. This was a horrible place. The waitress was the best part. She was kind. The wings is where we started. They came 25 min later, and were greasy and fatty. I have had better ones from fast food places. The salads came next and looked like they had sat out for a few hours. The dressings on both were over seasoned. Then the main dishes came, 40 min later. Simply THEWORSTSTEAK I HAVEEVERHAD! I worked in a restaurant through collage and I was compelled to send it back. The manager came and told me that it was fine and she tried it, and that I did not know what I was talking about. They did not offer to make me a new one and still stuffed me with a $ 50+ tab.

A favorite in Calistoga! Had a great time here with family and friends from England. We arrived at a good time at 5:00p on a Saturday because shortly thereafter the place was packed. No wait and were seated quickly. Service was excellent and food was great! I recommended the Grilled Ribeye because of the sweet potato gratin but was disappointed that they received the regular mashed potato with their meal. I tried the Mahi-Mahi Fish and Chips and the breaded fish was delish!

Kind of a disappointment, but they redeemed themselves at the end. A group of six of us showed up Saturday night for a bachelorette party. They sat us toward the front of the restaurant and gave us a very nice blonde lady for a server. Things seemed to be going well in the beginning. She took our order shortly after we sat down… we asked for more water, she brought it promptly, etc. Over an hour later we are served our entrees. One of the members of the group ordered a cup of soup as her meal(she wasn’t that hungry) and another ordered it as a starter… it didn’t come out with the rest of the food, instead came out about 5 minutes later after being told 2 – 3 times from the server it would«be right out.» The food was tasty, but after waiting for everyone to be served it was a little cold. Then the server came over and said we could pick out 1 – 2 desserts, on the house, since it was a special occasion. We decided not to pass the opportunity up and ordered both moose options. They were fantastic! Then the bill came and one of the girls noticed that the soup was charged as the bowl price. After the hour wait two of the girls decided to say something. Both the server and the manager were very apologetic. The restaurant changed the price of the soup right away, even though they did in fact have a bowl instead of the cup that they ordered, and we were given a 10% discount. I know that this may not sound like a lot… but at the end of the day they really didn’t have to do anything. I appreciate them trying to fix the problems that occurred and I will probably go back the next time I am in Calistoga.

Do you like your food burnt? Think salt-less and flavorless foods are the best? Enjoy the waitress being clueless about what you’re eating? How about sitting at a table so high you could literally rest your chin on it? If all of these things sound like the ultimate dining experience, then this place is for you! However, if this sounds like a nightmare, then I suggest never trying it. Now you might be thinking that I’m exaggerating about this, and I only wish that this were true. The bottom of the cornbread was BLACK, not dark brown but visibly black. The fried chicken was tough and blackened, and though the menu said it came with«green beans» it simply meant beans… that were green. Our waitress had no idea what kind they were, and was uninterested in finding out for us. The mac and cheese was simply cooked noodles with cheese and breadcrumbs sprinkled on top. The fish and chips were oil logged and the breading was uncooked through most of it. The hushpuppies were on the verge of being burnt, and our waitress forgot that we ordered them. We had to remind her twice, and it wasn’t a busy night(3 customers besides us). None of it was salted, making the food blander than it should have been. Though, even with the salt, there wasn’t much flavor to be had. If you do go here, the only thing I can recommend with a clear conscious is the artichoke and spinach dip. It wasn’t burnt. Overall, would recommend AGAINST this place. There are too many good eateries around in St. Helena and Napa(and even in Calistoga) to ever try somewhere that serves bad food. Even my free continental breakfast at the hotel was better than this place.

Southern w/a twist. Hush puppies are to die for. The cobbler not so much. Steak was a tad under-done & service was adequate but a bit inattentive. But I guess when you’re one of the few full-service restaurants in town you can be a bit arrogant about it.

Love the no cork fee ever. In case you haven’t gone to a winery, there is a liquor store next door but the prices are a little high. There is a grocery store called Cal Mart down the street… better prices on wine. They close the kitchen at 9pm and the whole town so it seems. We weren’t too hungry so decided to just split a wedge salad and filet mignon. It was pretty small for a filet. So added a side of fries. Total bill with tax and tip $ 51 Good service, quick and attentive. We were there on a Monday night. I highly recommend going to the wine country during the week to avoid Traffic and crowds.

Wine tasting can be stressful. Don’t worry, you’re in luck. Flat Iron grill will put you at ease as soon as you walk past the doors. Take in the warm, rich tobacco colors, sink into the velvety suede booths and notice the whimsical cow paintings on the walls. The menu features familiar comfort foods such as meatloaf, buttermilk fried chicken and short ribs. On the healthier side of things, they’ve got light apps and salads. When we had dinner here, I was just getting over from the flu and haven’t gotten my appetite back yet, but as soon as I saw the mussels I knew I wanted that. Steamed mussels made with porter beer and caramelized onions, accompanied with a slice of baguette. I got what I wanted: something light but flavorful. The house salad is fresh(albeit a smallish portion) with mixed greens and carrots simply dressed in EVOO and balsamic vinegar. Their complimentary corn bread was just ok though. Their crispy calamari was served piping hot! the batter was a tad thick but it was well seasoned. I didn’t like that they put in veggies in there like brocolinni and fennel, I mean if I want fried calamari, I just want that! The bf liked their flat iron steak, done right at medium rare, served with creamy potatoes and asparagus. I loved the friendly and very attentive service here. Oh, they play country music too which earns bonus points with me. For our next visit, I’d be sure to bring a bottle of wine, there’s NOCORKAGE fee! We’re in wine country where wineries charge you $ 5 and up for tasting so this is definitely a win-win situation!

I’d go back. We came into Calistoga for the night and wondered through downtown prior to choosing a restaurant. We had never visited this town, but were surprised by all the great art/furniture stores. Checked FlatIron’s menu out and it looked pretty good. There weren’t many people on that rainy Thursday night, so we got a great seat and phenomenal service. I don’t remember the server’s name, but she was cute and had a phenomenal approach to customer service. We brought a bottle of wine and was surprised to see that there wasn’t a corkage fee. That made my day and, absolutely, one of the reason why we’d go back. We started with the fried calamari. Wow, was that good. They have an awesome batter and threw in a few fried broccolini. Yum! Our entrees were some of the best fried chickens and coleslaw. I wouldn’t recommend the mashed potatoes. They were kind of runny and had a sausage gravy I could do without. I had two servings of the cole slaw. It was garlicky and probably the best I’ve ever had. We’ll be back FlatIron. Thanks for the dinner.

Spending a day at the spa got me, my mom, and sister very hungry — and I’m thankful that our growling stomachs brought us here! Casual steakhouse with lots of different menu options. Another major perk — no corkage fee EVER! Food: Overall — DELICIOUS! Everything came out hot and fresh. The portions were huge AND each entrée didn’t break the wallet. A great combination in my book… Calamari appetizer — delicious! It didn’t taste or look greasy(which can be a rarity) and it came with some grilled zucchinis too! Southwest burger — wow… grilled to perfection on a brioche bun with all of the fixings — guac, chipotle aioli, dijon mustard, and ketchup. The fries were well seasoned. Grilled salmon — Although the salmon is farmed, they sure do know how to cook it on the grill. It was flaky and tender. The basil on top was a nice touch! Southwest Steak Tostada Salad — in my opinion, the best entrée of them all. The salad is served atop a freshly fried tortilla(reminded me of a much better version of the taco bell chalupa). Mixed greens, chiles, corn, cheese, red onions, avocado and STEAK! My medium-rare steak was grilled perfectly and it was just so buttery it practically melted in my mouth with every bite! Crème brûlée — to die for! It is fresh and the burnt the top to give it quite a think sugary shell. Service: This is where a knocked this place down a star. Our water cups were empty longer than we would have liked and all of the tables around us were served bread — except for us! We even had to be asked to be served bread — after our appetizer was served! They all seemed friendly enough, but their attentiveness was subpar. I’d go back for the food, but hopefully receive a different dining experience.

Choose this place on the fly since we were staying near by. Loved that they did not have a corkage fee. That’s right folks, NOCORKAGEFEE. Which is great because after a day of wine tasting I wanted to drink some of my new wine with food. I ordered the iceburg wedge, without any blue cheese and used ranch dressing instead. The wedge was swimming in dressing, far too much dressing to enjoy the foot. On top of that, there were just a few pieces of bacon and a huge chunk of ice burg lettuce. Now I’ve had good wedges and bad wedges, this was more toward the bad wedge and certainly not worth $ 9. Next was the flat iron steak. I ordered it Medium Rare and felt it was a bit too rare for me. I picked at it but ended up taking 80% of it home in a box. The mash potatoes were great, ate all of those. As a table, we ordered a twice baked potato. It was good, but not worth writing home about. The services was good, prompt and friendly. We didn’t have one problem and our water glasses were always full.

If I could give it 3.5 stars I would. The awesome: NOCORKAGE! In fact, the front door answers the question for you by stating there is no corkage«Never ever.» That instantly gets a star in my book. The close to awesome: The food was good but the menu selection is pretty small and the food itself, while tasty, was not particularly memorable. My grilled salmon was well cooked and seasoned as were the crab cakes. But some of the food seemed a little salty to me. A lighter hand with the salt and a broader menu would bump this place up to four star territory.

Very prompt and friendly service, despite walking in here for a late Sunday dinner after mishap at another restaurant down the road. The menu is not imaginative… though given the restaurant’s name I thought it would offer more steak items. Instead it was a little diner, family eatery ish with some steak, some fish, some pasta and sandwich/salads. Despite the contradiction between menu and restaurant name, the food turned out in good time and was relatively decent… not rock your socks off but nothing to sniff at. JS had a chicken Caesar(creatively arranged in leaf, cheese, chicken in 3 separate bundles. Very deconstructionist indeed), while I had the chicken fettuccine(not deconstructed at all). The dishes are large… we’re big eaters and there was no need to order a side. Overall it’s a nice backup option. I am still seeking some originality at Calistoga, but hopefully without the price tag to go with it.
