I guess all the bad reviews and health issues have come to an end. I went to the location today 8÷29÷12 at 12pm and there were signs for«Kellys BBQ» opening soon(9÷3÷12) but same address and same phone 818−878−9512. :) I hope this place does well.

This used to be a great place, but tonight’s «meal» will not have me returning any time soon. Ordered BBQ Beef sandwich, beans and fries. Sandwich was a disaster. The beef was half gristle and fat. The sauce was hot and spicy and overpowered the meal — it was clearly not their house sauce. Not a single yummy bite in the sandwich. The beans were not up to par, and tasted heavily of ketchup and little else. The fries were fine. I noticed the health inspector notice on the door on the way out — «B» rating. Other reviews say this was due to vermin infestation. I daresay the vermin would have been a whole lot more tender than that stuff they called beef… This just kills me, because this place used to be the bomb.

Right on par with other good BBQ with price, & taste. I’ve been here a few times & the food taste better than the wood ranch which is the popular BBQ place out in Agoura. Only knock on the place is its a little crappy looking on the inside & outside. I’m not surprised they have a B rating just off how it looks, for a BBQ place it borders on sh1tty looking but they do know how to cook their food the right way.

Loved it! Visiting from Utah, found JV’s on Unilocal.Four of us and a Toddler, good food, and they give you a lot of food(ordered the JV’S special half for 4 and still had leftovers). Atmosphere not the best but food was great!

C’mon now. Anything above three stars for JVs is just wrong. That’s not to say the food is bad — it’s not. But c’mon! I usually agree with the Agoura’s own prolific Unilocaler, Erika, on her reviews. She is not only funny, but usually spot on. Not on this place, though, IMOHO. Maybe I’ve just hit JVs on their«off» days? Maybe it’s just me. First, the restaurant itself… 1 star. Kinda dark. Paint needs touch up. Thrift store, horsey-type decorations. Direct view into the kitchen, but not in a trendy-ristorante kinda way. No chef’s table here. Clearly JVs was designed for take out(yes, I read their storefront sign). Juan’s in the back doing the barbecuing. The guy taking the money impressed me by ringing me up and then putting on some latex gloves before helping with food prep… Then I watched the next customer get rung up and, oops, counter guy forgot to put the gloves on before tossing a salad, and then working with my fries. Ay yi yi. The food — 3.5 stars. Baby back ribs($ 19.95) were good but burnt. Meat was tender enough, but not falling off the bone. So this ain’t Montgomery’s in Cincinnati, or some other top shelf rib place you know. But hey, we’re in Agoura/Calabasas. But the price is sadly right up there with the best of ‘em. Sides are ok, although the baked beans are sweeeeeeeet! Really, like lots of sugar sweet. Like dessert sweet. Salads are decent. Nothing complicated or exciting. Bread… I think JVs is trying to compete with the big kid in the neighborhood, Wood Ranch, with the dinner rolls, but with almost identical rolls, Wood Ranch wins easily with lots more butter and garlic topping the warm bread. Burgers are good, but nothing outstanding. Especially with so many burger places around, it’s tough to have a standout burger. I need to try Erika’s tri tip salad. I will update this review if/when I do! So, yeah, JVs is ok. Its a divey, kinda off the beaten path decent enough place. But I wouldn’t make a special trip. Good news is it’s close and has no lines. JV’s is just not ready yet for Varsity.

Found a cockroach in the steak salad, kind of a deal breaker. Previously eaten dozens of times before, food was good otherwise. Except for, you know, the cockroach.

living a mile away and never trying this place is a wonder… we went on a sat. night and no one was there… we went in anyways. I was surprised at how good it was. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I think they deliver, and will try that next time we dont want to go anywhere.

I was lucky to have spotted this restaurant one random day when I was craving BBQ. No one told us about it nor did we really see anyone inside at the moment. We just saw it, stopped, and ate, and it was probably one of the better decisions I’ve made. Their prices are pretty good for the quality they give you, and their service is awesome. Their tri tip sandwich is delectable, and the meat of their ribs slip off the bones — not to mention extremely tasty. If you want to experience BBQ you won’t forget, come to JV’s.

Went around closing time with 3 others and a pup. Had outside seating luckily. I had the steak with cheese sandwich with fries and vegetables. Their veggies are delish. Most restaurant vegetables taste bland, these were far from that. I think they were roasted and seasoned. Cozy, good quick meal. Minus 1 star bc i thought that for bbq it was a little pricey. $ 12 – 15 for dinner plates.

Thank you Unilocal for leading me to Jv bbq! I was driving on the 101 and was looking for something beyond the typical fast food or a generic chain. This place looks family owned and well loved by its patrons. I ordered the tri-tip salad and really liked it. The meat was delicious and perfectly seasoned. The salad had lots a greats additions garbanzo beans, artichoke hearts, peppers, etc. The dressing could have been better, but all in all I recommend checking this place out.

I am so happy to have found this spot. The food hits the spot. I thought I was the only one who knew about this place for a good rack of ribs until I came by during lunch… the line was out the door! The service was just as good, and people were coming in and out fine. I live in NY, but I still miss and crave JV’s BBQ like I do In and Out Burgers. JVBBQ is about taste, quality, and neighborhood friendliness. They have really good food at average prices with a friendly staff– what more could I ask for?!

I have returned to JV’s on countless occasions since my original review, and can now also vouch for their their Bacon Cheeseburger topped with shredded onion: It’s so good it will move you and bring a tear to your eye. Or you can also try the Tri-Tip Soup. It will heal your soul.

Awesome BBQ on the same block where I work? Oh yeah. This place could easily make me broke if I didn’t bring my dinner leftovers to work here and there. I LOVE their tri-tip salad. It’s unusual but delicious. It has everything from bell peppers to chickpeas in it and I know the combo sounds weird, but all together it’s fantastic. Their ribs are very Virginia-style wet and sweet. Also really delicious. Top 3 I’ve had in LA. Peanut slaw is my favorite. ABSOLUTEFAVORITE. Here they don’t do a vinaigrette or creamy dressing. They do BBQ sauce. It works — and I could easily just eat a gigantic tub of their coleslaw for lunch. The only reason they’re not getting 5 stars is because they run out of shit all the time and it drives me nuts. I brought one of my best friends here who ordered so many things unavailable he finally said«okay, well what DO you have?» eeps. :/ Their staff is alright, but for sometimes I find it strange to order BBQ from a kid with green hair and punk rock clothing. I feel like I should be asking for tickets or guitar lessons, not food. Otherwise, this place is damn good.

When my colleague told me that this place had good food, I was skeptical given my other experiences in this area. However, this one ended pleasantly surprising me. The oriental chicken salad was pretty good, the chicken was very succulent and delicious. Should go back to try other stuff.

Just ate here about 30 minutes ago and I’m way down! The spot is pretty cracking for lunch and the food is awesome. I got the baby back ribs with onion strings and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes are nothing to brag about but the ribs and onion strings were money! My co-worker got the tri tip, and it looked absolutely delicious too! I’m coming back!

To open a restaurant away from busy streets is usually a recipe for disaster, unless you have great food. Which JV’s BBQ does. It is worth the drive to this BBQ paradise. From sandwiches to Ribs you can’t wrong. The meat is cooked right, very tender with good flavor. BBQ sauce is very tasty. Even though I have never ordered there salads, the table next to me did and it looked real good. Not much on décor but big on taste. Good service. Can’t wait to go back.

This area keeps surprising me even more, who would have thought good BBQ exist in Calabasas. The restaurant is hidden away from the main busy streets. I had ordered the tri tip sandwich with fries. I have to say the meat was filled with flavor. This is truly a nice haven for all the meat lovers out there. The place is not upscale or trendy, in fact it has that old country feel. If you are looking for good food and don’t mind the ambiance, its worth visiting this joint. They have a wide variety of items, if it weren’t for the food coma I’m in, I would have written more. Great meats for inexpensive price.

Went today based on fellow Unilocalers. Delish! Some awesome BBQ. I smelled it from the parking lot. Good sign. I had the ½ Slab of Baby backs with a salad, BBQ Baked Beans, and their Peanut Cole Slaw. The sauce was good. The meat was good. Everything was really yummy. The guy that runs the place is totally nice. He said they have been there for 2 ½ years. It’s a bit of a drive for me, but really really good. If I’m driving that far, next time I will try Willy’s in Agoura Hills.

Today I ordered lunch in with some friends and decided to go for the Lunch Special(lots of them to choose from– 3 on each day of the week). I ordered the Spare Rib Special with a choice of two sides and a roll(I, of course, chose Macaroni and Mashed Potatoes). The ribs had a really tasty bbq sauce and were HUGE! They gave me so much I have plenty left over for dinner. Bomb dot com!
