Salon Jean & Day Spa

After an unfortunate attempt to give myself bangs the night before flying to Canada for a wedding, I was left with little time and few options to slip away from work before catching my flight. I called Salon Jean and took the first available appointment. Luckily, my appointment was with Tammy. I’ve now been going to her for about 5 years and now drive from Alexandria, VA to see her. She is so incredibly talented and no one can get close to her colouring skills. She listens to what you want and has great ideas if you don’t. I’ve never had a bad hair cut and often just tell her to do what she thinks will look great.
And to top it off, the complimentary cappuccinos or coffee are always delicious as well!

I was extremely disappointed with my experience here. I went to jasmina for highlights and asked her to solely fix my roommates but not make the color any lighter. The opposite was done, I left with terrible roots, worse than I had before because she bleached areas that had been left natural before. Those bleached spots were randomly placed and ended up right next to brown patches. I even called and said how disappointed I was and went back for a redo. She said highlights would always leave me with roots. I have gotten highlights for the past year and a half and have never had this problem. It was expensive and a terrible experience that I needed to correct as soon as I walked out.

I saw a regular stylist (Jacob) for about one year for a haircut. After showing him exactly how far back to cut my bangs (because I wanted to grow them out), he cut them almost to the back of my head! Also, it was uneven and sloppy so I struggled for 8 weeks with a bad cut. I went back to the owner (Jean) who was suppose to correct it and «claimed» she listened. In fact SHE DIDN’T listen, she cut my hair erratically and haphazardly! I specifically asked for my bangs to be layered in the front. They now look just as bad as when I arrived «she thinned them a little» and on the front edges they are only tapered on one side (careless)! When she was DONE with the haircut she started to chop again until I stated «your making me nervous». To my horror she quickly CUT one last time a good ¹¹⁄₂ inches and stopped! So on the back it’s cut three inches (in a couple spots) from the bottom on one side! If you value your hair and appearance definitely go someplace else! For $ 100 one can expect a great cut! Also, she put a product on the counter when I checked out and simply assumed I would buy it. It sells for $ 15.00 less on Amazon with free shipping. Save your time, money and hardship, Go Someplace Else (I learned the hard way)! It’s been 7 days and I’m going someplace else tomorrow to get this mess corrected. If pictures were an option I would have LOVED to post them. Update — my new stylist went thru and fixed the cut along with my bangs! Hair grows back but I will NEVER go back to Jealous Jean.

I am always extremely happy with the treatments, products and superior customer service I receive at Salon Jean. The staff is talented and knowledgeable about all the newest products on the market.

My family and I have gone to Jean for over a decade and we could not have nicer things to say about her salon. It is sparkling clean, the staff friendly and professional, the products up-​to-​date, and you ALWAYS walk out feeling like a million $$$. Jean is an expert who cares about her clients and always places their desires first. I now live in NYC, but I refuse to go to anywhere other than Salon Jean and make it a priority to do so when I am in the DC area.

Tammy is amazing! I have been going to Tammy for highlights and a cut for a few years now. She is so nice and always listens to what I want. Tammy gives a great haircut but her real talent is color and highlights.
The salon itself is beautiful. Its very modern, clean, and relaxing.

I am pretty laid back about germs, but I will NEVER go back here for a wax again. Esther used the same wooden stick for the entire bikini wax, sticking it back in the communal pot each time she dipped for more wax. So disgusting and unsanitary! Too bad — the place is convenient and nice enough, but gross. Just… gross.

I asked the woman at the front desk to recommend a stylist to cut and color my short, thick, wavy hair. She considered and said «Jacob» and she was right! He gave me the best cut and color with highlights that I’ve received in this area. He listened to what I wanted and, miracle of miracles, actually gave me what I wanted. Excellent stylist. I will return.
The salon lost a star because they didn’t hang on to Sima, who gives the best waxing and facials I have ever had and I’ve lived a looong time :-). She has gone, btw, to New Wave Salon on Pooks Hill, so she’s still in Bethesda! Yay!

I really liked my experience with Jean and Flavia. Both are talented hair stylist with very good skills. Jean is approachable and listens to your needs. She is practical and talented. Flavian is very meticulous and understanding. I highly recommend the salon. I got a fantastic Brazilian Blowout and my hair has never been better!!!

I absolutely love Salon Jean! Jean is without a doubt the best stylist in the Washington Metropolitan Area and the salon’s front desk is extremely friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. In addition to hair services, their spa services are amazing. I recommend the salon to everyone I know because the service and professionalism are unparallel to any other salon I have been to.

Avoid this place. Hadn’t been here before, so decided to try it. Booked a weekend massage appt on a Wednesday, and got a call on Thursday asking why I had not shown up. (???) I called back and asked what the deal was, considering my appt was for Sat. Apparently, the gal booked me for the wrong day. Ok – it happens — not a huge deal. Then she tells me that it’s «store policy» to charge 50% of the appt value for a «no show,» even if the error was their fault. (WTF?) Had to call my credit card company to get a refund. Just lost a customer for life in their attempt to get and easy $ 50. I know times are tough, but come on. It would have cost them nothing to re-​book and apologize. Their loss.

Sima, is by far the best waxer I have ever been to. Just like the previous reviewer stated she goes above and beyond for her clients. I would go in for a basic eyebrow wax and she would give a mini facial, with honey and lots of great creams. Extremely nice and very knowledgeable. She introduced me to this specific Dr. Hauschka product that I am now in love with. This is an overall great place to get pampered and beautified.

I’m shocked that no one has reviewed this place yet! I feel it’s my obligation to let others know when I find a great waxer. Sima, the BEST waxer in the Maryland/​DC area works here. My friends and I followed her from her old spa to Salon Jean, which opened a few years ago. She’s quick, friendly and uses the best quality products. Sometimes she goes above and beyond, putting a glycolic treatment on a pimple on my face. She’s the best!
I’ve never had my hair cut there but my best friend has had numerous haircuts and colors there and she always looks fab.
