As of summer 2013, this is not the same place. New owners. I would have given Sunset Restaurant and 4 out of 5 in the past, but the new owners named the restaurant Pier 42. Hop over to their Unilocal review page and read for yourself.

We have been enjoying dinner at Sunset Marina for a number of years with Chef Zoom at the helm. The view is fantastic! The menu was different and interesting, consisting of dishes that you could not find anywhere else. The recipes were creative and the food was always delicious and hot, served by a friendly staff. Sadly, that is not the case any longer. The restaurant is now called Pier 42 and is under new management. It is not worth your time or money. It is now a high priced rib joint, which wouldn’t be so bad if the ribs were any good. We had the chips and cheese dip for an appetizer. The chips were supposed to be homemade(I am not sure of this, but they were cold, stale and greasy) and the cheese sauce was poured out of a jar and very runny. It took a long time for dinner to arrive and when it did the ribs were not tender, but they were cold and bland. The mac and cheese was cold and from a box as far as I could tell. My companions ordered the catfish. It was breaded to heavily and cold, served on a cold corn cake. The waitress obviously did not want to be there, as she never smiled, and seemed to be very unhappy. My boyfriend treated my mother, a friend and I to Mother’s Day dinner and we felt so bad for him. He paid a lot of money to take us out to dinner(and we really appreciated it), but all we could talk about for weeks after was how bad the food was. Save your money and go up the hill to the Bobcat Den. The view may not be as great, but it is way cheaper and the food tastes good and arrives at the table hot. Served by friendly staff. Always a good meal.

Very disappointing. Under new management as Pier 42, the menu has been pared down to BBQ and catfish meals. We were seated outside on the deck and it took 15 minutes to receive drinks. The waitress apologized and then brought us complimentary chips and salsa to make up for the wait. The tortillas were the worst I had ever had. Greasy, chewy and stale. After getting our water, we placed out order and it took over an hour and fifteen minutes. I ordered«BORGIE’S PULLEDPORKPLATE: ONLYFOUNDONTHEPIER». It was described as «A generous portion of our famously recognized house smoked pork shoulder served tender and moist with just a touch of our house vinegar based BBQ sauce.» For my sides, I chose the smoked potato salad and macaroni and cheese. I’m glad that their pulled pork is only found on the pier because the BBQ was dry and very bland. The sauce was nothing special. I was so disappointed. The smoked potato salad was inedible. It tasted like some type of petroleum product. Fortunately, the macaroni and cheese was decent(but not much different than a Kraft product). After we placed our orders, the waitress came out and told us they were out of buns and sweet tea. Really? Don’t believe they hype on their web site, These people are by no means professional restauranteurs. Service was terrible and the food was sad. This was the worst experience I have had a a restaurant in my life. BTW, the original Sunset Marina Restaurant was great. Pier 42 should close.

ohhhhh Dale Hollow Lake… I wish I could give you 10 stars. If you never had the pleasure of traveling here… DOIT. My parents own a house on the lake and I am lucky enough to call Dale Hollow my second home. I’ve never had a bad day on the lake… even when you get rained on :) The water is so clean and clear and its never hard to find a nice spot along the shore to get out and explore, or find a nice quiet cove to spend the day in. I travel here countless times a year whether its fall, winter, summer… I’m there doing SOMETHING. I call it my mini-vacation. There are some awesome things to do around the lake. Pickett State Park and Big South Fork are BEAUTIFUL places to take a day trip to. Awesome hiking at Pickett. The Srgt Alvin York park is pretty neat too. There is a grist mill and Wolf River runs thru it. There isnt much there but its a piece of history worth seeing. And dont forget to stop in downtown Byrdstown, Tn at the Dixie Café for some live bluegrass on a saturday night. =)

We go on a house boat trip with about 13 other people every June. We love it here. We dock the houseboat on «our island» and tie a bunch of rafts to it. For three days we relax and catch the rays. We also rent a speed boat so we can tube and ski. It’s one of my favorite trips we do:)
