I’ve shopped at this store for several years. Prices are high at this store but I don’t like giant eagle. Friedman’s didn’t used to be too bad. I’d only occasionally get spoiled meat. But it’s become a common theme now. They put the nice looking cuts of meat on top(in packages) and spoiled or pieces that were cut crooked on bottom. Wrapped in plastic, you can’t see this until you open it at home. I bought hamburger recently. It was a strange pink color instead of the nice red. I bought it anyway. When I got home and was repackaging it for freezing, I noticed a strange chemical smell. The meat smelled like bleach, or some kind of cleaning product??? My dog wouldn’t even eat it! When I repack meat I usually give her a little piece. So she was sitting waiting for her treat. I handed her some. She smelled it and smelled it, but then turned her head and wouldn’t eat it! That proved it to me, there was something really wrong with this meat! I won’t buy from this store anymore. I hate giant eagle, but it’s the only other option I have.

I shop at Friedmans often. The main reason is that they are close to my home. The prices tend to be a little higher than Giant Eagle, although Giant Eagles meat prices are horrible. My main gripe with Friedmans is inaccurate scanning. There are at least 2 or more scanning errors on every shopping trip i make there, and most of the time my weekly trip is only $ 70-$ 80. Strangely, the price NEVER scans too low. I am getting to the point that i feel a little ripped off, and am considering driving the extra 10 minutes to the Giant Eagle. Most of the time when i alert the cashier of the error, it becomes a long and drawn out ordeal. Very annoying.

Friedman’s Markets is a small grocery chain with locations primarily north of Pittsburgh. My friend Lisa and I stopped here because it’s probably the closest supermarket to the Butler-Freeport Community Trail. It’s about a mile east of the trailhead on Kittanning Street. We stocked up on some fruits and nuts for the 20 mile ride back down to Freeport. I’m a type-1 diabetic so I always have to have some sweets and fruits on me, particularly when I’m exercising. I can’t say how their meats and staples are, but their fruits were good and the place seems clean and friendly enough. From the trailhead on Kittanning street, head about ½ mile NW to Monroe Street. Make a right on Monroe and then head up about three blocks to Brady Street. Make a left on Brady and go about another ½ mile to the store.
