Called this precinct to report a crime on Woodward Ave and Dekalb Ave, and the person told me I was calling the wrong precinct(even though I live fairly close to the office) and refused to take the crime report, claiming they are unable to send the report to the«correct» precinct. Holy shit, I’m reporting a crime. I don’t have time to pull out my giant chart of NYPD police precincts to try to figure out which one the crime is being committed in. This is the absolute worst system I have ever seen, and New York should be ashamed to possess such a lazy and inefficient police force. This precinct made me feel less safe than if I had simply ignored the crime.

It’s one of the toughest police gigs in New York, but the 83rd Precinct under the tutelage of Captain Maximo Tolentino does an outstanding job of community outreach in person and via frequent Twitter updates about the significant crime-reduction efforts underway in our neighborhood. Captain Tolentino has also proved to be an involved leader via his appearances at our local block association meetings, where he described some of the behind-the-scene goings on, and the local community board meetings, where he talked extensively about crime trends an quality-of-life issues. Basically, if you’re up to no good, beware!!!
