Fantastic soup and homemade bread! I think I was helped by one of the owners who was very hospitable. I had the broccoli and cheddar soup and a small sampling of the food from the hot plate. I definitely recommend this if you want clean healthy, not overly spiced or priced food in Burlington.

They have free refills on their good strong coffee and tasty fresh bakery goods– the apple cake is especially good. The staff were very nice and helpful and the seating in the front is just fine with a nice big window with a lovely view of college street;)!

Loved this place… Visiting from NYC, enjoying the great walking weather on Church Street, so stopped in for a light lunch. Red lentil soup served with homemade whole grain bread, and a slice of mushroom onion quiche… A perfect lunch. I could taste the touch of fresh rosemary in the soup. My lunch mate had a plate from the steam table, which included the quinoa mac & cheese… Loved everything, not too expensive, even liked the coffee… Staff is courteous, attentive and friendly. Definitely coming back here, I want to try everything on the menu!

This is a quaint little café in what appeared to be downtown Burlington. Popped in for lunch and was instructed on how to go about ordering, either from the wall for a sandwich or from the hot bar. As an avid whole foods shopper the hot bar felt like home so I went that route. I chose some steamed kale, brown rice, sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts and a very delicious African stew. It was very flavorful, but not incredibly filling, I actually wanted to get seconds. A great place to have a decent and quick lunch. I will certainly visit again when I am back in Burlington.

Best food in Burlington for more than 15 years. Hands down!!! I’m a local and can’t recommend Stone Soup enough. The buffet is pricey but I always spring for it because the selections are colorful, alive with flavor, and a sure delight. I’ve literally never had an unpleasant experience. I love Stone Soup 4 eva!!!

I want to like this place because their buffet choices seem like they’d do the trick, but it’s like they sprinkle hunger juice on their food, meaning you’re hungry again within the hour. Even getting a large portion(and paying a lot) doesn’t do it. Don’t get me wrong, it tastes good, but when I’ve paid $ 22 for a bunch of food that leaves me hungry 20 minutes later, I just can’t do it.

Lived here for 25 years and have wanted to try this place but never have. I just had a spiced Indian lentil soup and a tuna melt and I am in heaven. Whatever you do don’t wait like I did. I will be back often

Truly heaven for vegetarian food lovers. Had the African nut soup which was sweet but delicious. The sandwiches grilled tofu and veggie hummus both equally good. I preferred the grilled tofu for its strong mustard taste. Plus the place had a very cosy feeling to it :)

Great casual vegan spot! I enjoy the café/buffet style restaurant for in and out dining. My boyfriend who is not vegan loved it and I loved it because they offered lots of healthy options on the salad bar. The flavors were spectacular. For dessert we tried the peanut butter granola bar and my taste buds sang! Cool ambiance as well.

I’ve eaten here several times over lunch and I’ve enjoyed the food and the ambiance for the most part. I’ve had the hummus sandwich before which was a refreshing sandwich to bite into on a hot day. I’ve also had their BLT which was equally delicious. Their scones are just as tasty if you’re craving something simple and sweet. The place can get fairly busy over lunch time so just be sure to stop by at a flexible hour. They have some outdoor seating which is on one of the busy downtown streets. It can be nice in the summertime, but it does get a lot of car traffic and people walking — some folks are into that though! You can sit inside as well and they have a nicely decorated seating area for those that want to have more intimate dining experiences. I did have one not-so-pleasant experience waiting for my food, however. A friend and I were dining in and had ordered sandwiches. He got his brought out to him within 10 minutes of ordering. Somehow, 20 minutes had passed and we were still waiting for my simple order. I decided to go investigate and asked at the register that I was still waiting for my sandwich and they had to check on it with several people. It turned out they packaged my order to go and it had been there waiting for a couple of minutes. I wasn’t happy that nobody had checked in with me and my friend about my order and that I basically had a not-so-fresh sandwich anymore. Food was food and I still ate what was given to me. I just wish it was better communicated to me and amongst their staff that they didn’t properly carry out my order as I had initially wanted them to. Just a minor annoyance, but nothing that should diminish the quality and atmosphere that this place provides.

I had a dream about Stone Soup the other night, even though It’s been 4 years since I moved away from Burlington, the flavors linger on my palate. I came here for lunch almost everyday, taking advantage of the delicious buffet items in a quest to meet my particular dietary needs. Stone Soup never disappointed, with delicious fresh veggies, TODIEFOR chicken wings, and a killer chicken liver sandwich, just to name a few. I came in often and it didn’t go unnoticed. The owner appreciated my patronage and always greeted me with a smile and some kind words. He even treated me to lunch on the restaurant’s birthday one year, again thanking me for being a loyal customer. There is some really great food in San Francisco, but I’ve yet to find an establishment that offers a similar quality, taste, and experience. Damn I miss Stone Soup, and I’m looking forward to the next time I visit town and get to eat there again.

Stone Soup is one of my favorite little food shops in Burlington. Featuring delicious pastries and other bakery items, a hot & cold buffet with an awesome rotating seasonal selection, and soups and sandwiches. They also have a small ‘baked the day before’ section where you can get loaves of bread or other baked goods and a discounted price. The food is always fresh, the color and presentation is great, and I always leave feeling like I was truly nourishing my body(and mind) by eating here. The physical space is also a huge plus, with its rustic-café style and charm — lots of exposed wood, plants, and just a general atmosphere of warmth. Speaking of which, In the summers they roll up the windows facing the street and makes for excellent people watching! I would highly recommend coming here to just about anyone — they are vegetarian conscious, offer gluten free options, and are always healthy!

I recently visited Vermont, my husband found this place and it was a great choice. The place is casual and the staff is so friendly. We both have different kinds of tofu sandwiches, they were delicious. Good prices.

This is one of my staple places to eat in Burlington. Good for when you want a simple but healthy meal. Most food is sold buffet style by weight. Not true of pastries, sandwiches and soups. I used to be a HUGE fan of the quiche back when local artist, Brooke Monte, worked there regularly. A few years ago he started focusing on his art full time and stopped working at the restaurant. It was a bad spell for local quiche lovers because the taste and quality declined drastically. But now Brooke is back a few days a week. I’m so ecstatic! I will probably end up going a lot more on the days that he works now that I know I have his quiche to look forward to. Another one of my favorites is their regular homemade chocolate cake(not the fudge cake). Best in town! Most of their other desserts are quite dry and not to my liking. Stone Soup also make tons of homemade breads. Sometimes I stop by and get a huge slab and smother it with butter. Lunchtime can be very crowded. There is outside seating in the summer but it’s right on the main road and there are only a few tables. It can be noisy out there. The bathrooms are in the basement. I think it would be impossible for anyone in a wheelchair or with walking problems to get down there. Overall, the vibe is crunchy, relaxed and casual. It’s vert hard not to like this place. Check it out.

Despite only having 50,000 people tops in Burlington, VT, they somehow pull off a tremendous landscape of creative eateries and especially those that cater to the vegetarian and vegan crowds. Stone Soup is no exception. I highly recommend checking this place out if you find yourself in downtown Burlington around lunchtime. Expect mouthwatering and rustic-looking desserts piled high on the counter, soups(whodathunkit), and a veggie-filled buffet(pay by the weight). The buffet boasts tofu and tempeh dishes along with simple veggies options like beets, build-your-own salads, wax beans, etc. All delicious.(a few could have used an extra wink of salt) One of my favorite features of Stone Soup is the cozy layout with tables tucked directly against the pull up garage door window on the front wall facing the street. I don’t recall the soup I tried on my first visit but I do recall walking away with a smile pasted on my face.

Crazy busy disorganized and hard to get a seat… But this is one rocking organic, vegan, local place. I love their salad bar with all of the local veggies, their seitan sandwiches are really good… and the best part are their baked goods… Their revelation bar is as close to pastry nirvana as I have come to… chocolate, nuts, brown sugar, fresh cream and butter… it is hard to describe. Great scones, cookies(I did not care for the hard baked choc chip cookie) but everything else was dandy!!!
