My review is in reference to their catering, the food is amazing but the catering business practices are shady. I found them on recommendation and sought them out on Facebook. I spoke with Jami the owners daughter in reference to getting them to cater my wedding. We spoke on the phone multiple times, we drove a few hours to go try the food and even sent 75% of the money for the deposit instead of half. When we went to try the food we had discussions on what I would need to provide vs. what they provide. They provide the food and bbq sauce, I will provide the utensils, chafing dishes and dressings. The father was kind and called often to check my order. We had gone over it multiple times and I was confident that it was in order. Two days before my wedding I missed the call from the owner who was reiterating my order. Full disclosure I did not listen to the entire voicemail, we had been over it time and again and after he said 6:30 delivery I was set and just called him back and left a voicemail saying that it sounds good. Flash forward to my wedding day and it was a bit of a mess, it rained a few times delaying the ceremony almost an hour, I was attempting to keep it together but when I saw the catering van pull in at 5:35 I had a breakdown. The food had clearly already been in the car an hour(and yes we paid extra for them to deliver it) and now it was going to have to sit another hour until the reception when it would be put into the chafing dishes. I couldn’t believe they would show up that early. Luckily my maid of honor told them they would have to wait and we rushed into the ceremony even though it was still very wet outside so that the food wouldn’t go bad. When I walked passed the food I noticed the salad we paid for wasn’t there. In an effort to not ruin my day I decided to address it at a later date. I wrote them on facebook and I received a very rude response. Luckily I had the menu in writing earlier in the message other than that it has all been verbal. I then received multiple phone calls one with a voicemail saying I was just trying to think of things to be upset about and that they cant control the weather! I would not recommend them and have noted to the venue I was married at that they should not consider them in their future endeavors. I have posted screenshots of the facebook conversation for your reference.

Great home-cooked BBQ. An unexpected gem off the road in out-of-the way Burlington. Love the chicken and pork platters.

The Millstone is my favorite restaurant in the area! It’s a family operated BBQ joint on the site of an old mill that used to be owned by my great-grandfather(that’s where the name comes from). Jim uses local ingredients for his food, sometimes from his own garden and it really makes a difference! Everything on the menu is great, but I usually get the same thing. I always order the BBQ Pork Nachos and the combo platter which is ½ beef brisket and ½ pulled pork sandwiches, a hog wing(similar to a rib), and two sides. The coleslaw and baked potatoes are my favorites. I highly recommend this place if you’re lucky enough to be in the area when it’s open. This restaurant is only open on the weekends(Thurs-Sun) and only during the warm months because all of the cooking is done outside.

Real live BBQ in the wilds of West Virginia. Very unexpected to find good food in this rural area. Place looks like a house from the road. Don’t let that fool ya. Also, they are only open from Mid April until Mid October. The owner cooks meat for the weekend. Once he’s out of something, he’s out until next weekend. We had the Sunday buffet. Pulled in about 2:30p. There were 4 other customers seated. We paid our cash $ 16 for the all you can eat buffet. Meats were BBQ chicken, pulled pork, and ribs. Salads were a Cole slaw or potatoe. BBQ beans were available, of course. Dessert was a banana pudding. All good food though I was partial to the pulled pork(no sauce) and BBQ beans, had a second helping! We closed the place down at 3p and chatted with the owner a bit. I hope you enjoy!
