This is one of the best French restaurants in the US I’ve experienced and better than many in Paris, where I just spent time. Fantastic service, great food. Pricey but worth it.

Had a lovely dinner here tonight with a friend. I had the chicken with squash and mashed potato. Extremely comforting and tasty. The chocolate mousse was also very good. My starter of the Boston Lettuce was good though not amazing. Lovely wine selection. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable meal. Service was excellent and the chef came to greet us and check in with our impressions of the meal. I know L’Amante(previous restaurant in the location) was a local favorite, and I’m hoping more people come to check out the very good food and sophisticated(for Butlington) setting. Glad we decided to try this restaurant.

Absolutely phenomenal dining experience here! Our group ordered the chicken, steak frites, and salmon dishes all of which were displayed beautifully and cooked to perfection. The lemon tart dessert served in a mason jar is to die for. The Executive Chef stopped by our table and I saw him at several other tables throughout the night to see how everything was, which was nice to see. He has much pride in his restaurant and he’s doing a wonderful job. We’ll certainly be back!

L’Amante had been our regular day-after-Thanksgiving dinner spot for several years, so it seemed fitting to give Bistro de Margot a try. We were not disappointed. The service was fantastic. Our server Stephanie was efficient, knowledgeable, and a lot of fun! Our group ordered a variety of dishes including the duck, cod, and salmon. All were delicious. The wine list is interesting and affordable. We will be back next year!

Calm sophistication without pretension in an authentic French bistro. Everything the six of us had was well made, straightforward with delicious sauces and vegetables. From salmon, to cod to duck to mussels, you tasted the primary item, then enjoyed the delicious sauce. As for ambiance, our kind young UVM grad told us her career goal was to be a meat inspector and Herve, the chef came out at meals end to say hi. We will certainly return to try out other items on the slowly evolving menu. I hope this restaurant sticks around as a regular on the excellent BTV restaurant scene.

This lovely place is 3.5 on its way to 4 stars. Excellent bistro good, polished service and a very enjoyable overall first visit. Chef Herve is charming and very hands on, which is refreshing. In the hope that this gem makes it, I offer up a few suggestions: get rid of the white table cloths and formality, BTV needs a hip, farm to fork place that brims with energy and fun. This place could be that. Everyone loves a bistro menu, but here’s an oportunity to offer edgier, more exciting riffs on the classics. The neo bistro cooking is the rage in Paris, bring it to BTV Svp! We’ll be back …

I had been to L’Amante, the Italian restaurant that used to be in this space several times but this was my first time at the reimagined French bistro that has replaced it. I think it’s sorely needed in Burlington which is awash in good but fairly similar takes on American fusion or versions of localvore stuff. The décor of the redesigned place is clean and classy and the service was polite, friendly and efficient. We were there with a large group from work and the restaurant was full with a really nice buzz of conversation. I saw the chef out greeting many of the guests at different points of the meal(including us) — it really added to the ambience of the place. Of course the best part was still the food, as it should be. We had an amuse bouche of salmon mousse sent our way from the chef, delicious and delicate rounds with a touch of a wonderful saffron sauce. I had the pork terrine as an appetizer and that was spectacular, served with cornichons, grilled bread, a spicy mustard and some sweet pickled onions. The terrine itself was surprisingly light and really tasty. I had as my main the grilled salmon served with fingerling potatoes and a rich but again light sauce. The fish was cooked perfectly, a great balance of crispy exterior and buttery soft flakes and the potatoes were delicious. The highlight of my meal was, however the absolutely spectacular tarte tatin, the apple tart served with ice cream and a caramel sauce. The crust was flaky and thin while the apples were sweet and flavorful. As with everything else in the meal I was surprised by how light it was. A delicious meal and a wonderful setting; I can’t wait for my next meal there.
